Duo act HABRAND are from Sweden, sharing the same energy with exploring music and creativity, they decided to form this band. Going on to create their first single "Mother" out this holiday season for Valentine's Day! New music is also being worked upon, with them set to release their debut album out soon enough, with a whole lot more in-store for them! See what else is said with us all below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
There are only two people in this band, Carl Westholm and Johan Niemann. Both well known Swedish musicians in some areas from acts like Evergrey, Candlemass, Avatarium, Therion, Tiamat, Carptree etc.
We have worked together in Tiamat and, last couple of years, in Hollingshead and we share the same will to explore music and creativity from new angles and new contexts.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Håbrand is an old Swedish/Nordic name of a big shark living in the cold waters of the Norths, called Porbeagle in English (I think). Initially there was no symbolic value to the name more than it´s a really cool name of a really cool creature, but now when you listen to the music it nevertheless feels like the creature has come to life.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We’re in Stockholm, Sweden. If you refer to a music scene regarding this genre we can not really help as this is our first step into this kind of music.
4. How would you describe your style?
It´s Electronic, Ambient and Industrial.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
The first release will be out on Feb 14th, our first single and video to “Mother”.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
There is always new music in the works!
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
It hasn’t been up for discussion yet, and furthermore the setting of the band is not the easiest to do live, but if an opportunity arises, we´ll take it and do something special with it.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
First of all, releasing the first album ”Shining. But Dead” on Feb 28th and then get things together for the next album.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
This first release will only be a digital release, but will be available on all streaming platforms including Bandcamp.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
This is music without “sing along choruses” or dancing grooves, but there no a lack of intriguing melodies, harmonies and, most of all, expression and ambience. And please, don´t have it in the background, it needs your full attention and then you´ll be rewarded! - Thanks /Håbrand
