Dead Venus Talks of WORLD DOMINATION!

Progressive rock band DEAD VENUS have a lot of influences, releasing an array of content as well. They are currently hard at work upon their next release and world domination of course too! The band discloses all of this and much more below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

I formed Dead Venus in early 2015. First I was on the road as a solo artist with Piano and Acoustic Guitar. But then I decided that I need a team to develop my ideas. Dead Venus was never supposed to be a “Singer-Songwriter-Thing” so I started looking for the right people to play my music with.

Mike Malloth (drums) answered my call! He is pure energy! André and I call him lovingly “Frank” - the collar lizard from “Bernhard & Bianca - The Rescuers Down Under”. Which already is the bad thing about him one could say.

Besides that he is an incredibly good drummer and true friend! He has a girlfriend and loves to ride his motorbikes. He is also drummer of a 70s rock cover band and plays for some other projects and bands, but mainly small swiss and not well known internationally.

Mike recommended bassist Andre Gaertner to complete the trio. About André: First of all; he is one of the best bass players I know and a very kind soul. He is the oldest member of the band and that’s all I’ll say about his age hahaha ;-) He is married, has a very cute little dog called Juki and loves pets in general. He is a bass- and guitar-teacher and a well booked session musician.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

I thought about how women are pressed into an ideal by society. How should a woman look? What is perfection? The Venus of Botticelli shows a woman with curves and muscles. But more important than that she radiates warmth and calmness, she seems satisfied and is at peace with herself and her environment. With "Dead Venus" I actually want to say that today's image of a woman kills this Venus and at the same time it should symbolize a kind of resurrection. The Venus comes back from the dead.

Since the sound and the lyrics Dead Venus are often dark, the "Dead" fitted in well, of course.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

The Band is based in the German speaking part of Switzerland, close to Zürich and in Luzern. Scene, what scene? haha. There is one but it’s small: IMO on one hand because the population of the county is small and in addition to that divided in the German, the French and the Italian speaking part and on the other hand our style of music is not part of the original culture of the county. That‘s why we are more interested in the international music-scene.  There’s a zillion of hobby-bands though and some of them are really good!

4. How would you describe your style?

We have many influences but the important thing for us is to be authentic so we always try to create our very own sound. That's why we use the term “progressive-rock” for our music. You can't exactly describe what “progressive-rock” is - it's just music without any genre specific limits and that's what we like. Bands like Opeth, Pain of Salvation, Rush, Weather Report, Supertramp, Manfred Mann‘s Earth Band, Screaming Headless Torsos, Living Color, Pink Floyd, Dave Matthews Band and many more...

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

On March 6th 2019, Dead Venus released their first self-titled EP which was available through the band's Home- and Facebook-pages. It contained three songs and was a sample of our first full album "Bird of Paradise" released on September 13th 2019. The album was released digitally on all of the common streaming sites such as Spotify and Apple Music and also worldwide on CD and double-vinyl.

We are currently working on our second studio album which is called „Flowers & Pain“. The first same titled Single of the new album was already released in April this year. You can watch the video on YouTube and listen to the song on all common streaming sites as well. We also created an EP package to keep our fans interested till the full album will be released in the beginning of 2022. It contains four EPs with one new song and one special track each and is available through the Bands Facebook page or Homepage via Paypal.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

As described before we are currently working on our second studio album which is called „Flowers & Pain“. The first same titled Single of the new album was already released in April.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Yes! We got lucky and were given the chance to support "Orphaned Land" on their 30th anniversary tour through whole Europe! The tour had to be postponed twice because of covid19 but now we are hoping for spring 2022 and we can’t wait. :-)

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

WORLD DOMINATION muahahahaaa! Seriously: We hope that we'll soon can rock some stages again! And we can’t wait to launch our next single which will be released in July`22 along with a video clip.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Digitally on all of the common streaming sites such as Spotify and Apple Music and also worldwide on CD and double-vinyl. The EP package is only available through the band and will contain some special gifts too. ;-)

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Good question. Maybe that the message of our music got through, she/he suddenly felt better than before and really liked how the challenging rhythms support the melodies?
