Callider Discusses Singles, Album, and More!

Melodic death metal act CALLIDER has been doing music as a studio only project for sometime now, releasing a couple of single's, and more singles and an album to come soon. He goes into discussion about his content and what the future holds.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Well you know Callider at this point is a studio-only project. I work with guest musicians, but in terms of musical expression, it’s a “Stefan Lange only” show, haha.  My musicianship began through my father. There was always exciting stuff going on on our record player at home, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Wishbone Ash, Jethro Tull ... That's what I grew up with. I learned playing the guitar, became a part-time guitar teacher, worked as a dance and contract musician in various formations. I also founded the melodic death metal formation “Gatecrusher” in Ingolstadt back in the day. We released one album “Words On Empty Drafts” but couldn’t continue with the band due to the growing geographic distance between the band members and job and university duties. I played bass guitar in a Deathcore band “Chrome” we founded in Nuremberg some years ago, but then things got pretty quiet musically on my side as I focused more on job and family.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

I decided on a neologism, combining "Call" and "Collide". Both words have a significance and meaning in regard to my personality.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

I am located in Nuremberg, Germany and there Is definitely a vibrant punk and metal band scene there. If you are into metalcore I would recommend you check out “Defy the Laws of Tradition” and “Shark Tank”.

4. How would you describe your style?

I’d say it is just contemporary melodic death metal. I blend “traditional” Scandinavian melodic death metal influences with my early rock and hard rock socialization and strong focus on melody. That’s it. I am not reinventing the wheel for sure, but I feel its kicking none the less.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

I have release two single so far (as of 26.8.2023), called “Short Steps” and “This Road”, two more singles are down the road and a small 6-track album will be released in November.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

I am currently producing a new album which will be released about in one or two years. It has got some more rocky aspects and also two very fast and heavy tracks so there should be something in it for everyone. I am also working with a small brass ensemble for two of the tracks which is quite rare in the metal scene and quite exiting. Keeping it to a reasonable level though, haha don’t worry.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Since I am a family father and team lead in the electronics industry, I can not really plan and deliver anything live. This is just out of my possibilities time-wise and financially. But lets see, I am not old and grey yet, maybe further down the road.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

I just want to write and release more material, I really enjoyed the production process and I got to work with some awesome people. I hope people around the world that like melodic death metal enjoy my music and I can be part of the global metal community.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Just browse for “Callider” in your favorite streaming service.  The LP “Southern Stars” will be available an Amazon and other outlets starting Nov 17th 2023. Follow me on social media (@callider_metal) to keep in touch with me and my music.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Not a distinct melody or sound but a feeling of energy, creativity and enjoyment of life. That’s what metal is all about to me.
