SuperLung Says Much On Music and Themselves!

Rock, grunge, alternative go getters SUPERLUNG formed not very long ago, releasing a couple of song's already, with more newer music in the works currently. They plan to just write music and enjoy doing what they do best as musicians. The band goes on more or less to say how they came together and their music of course.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

SuperLung was found in late 2018 in the Industrial City of Mankato, Minnesota. Ex- members of Guy Smiley recruited Ex-members of the bands Pushrod, Diskord, Almost There, and Revilwen to join up and start an original rock band. We started to jam and write together when we realized that we really enjoyed the process and that we should take it to the level of playing out. After our first show at the famed Mankato’s The What’s Up Lounge we decided to make it a full time gig and start writing for a new album and continue to play live shows, with the pandemic, that has put a hamper on live shows but we have a full album written and are hoping to get into the studio in late 2020.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The origin of the name SuperLung is actually very interesting. Our bass player Forrest Wilkes and myself Jeff Zimmerman - Zimmy (Singer) met in the US Navy in 1993 while in Palau, Sardegna - Italy. We played in a band over there called Pushrod and we became such great friends that we vowed to make a band when we got out. 20 some years later, Forrest is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and we are in Minnesota but he flies in for rehearsals and shows. The name stemmed from a joke we used to call our friends that smoked cigarettes among other things, 44 Slackjaw SuperLungs (No Idea how it got there). Originally that was going to be the name but we decided to go with SuperLung since it was easier to say and rolled off the lips.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

SuperLung is based out of the South Central Minnesota City of Mankato. The music scene is quite diverse in Mankato, we have all genres of music here and all artists support one another regardless of genre, which is great for a city over 50,000 people. It is often referred to as Little Minneapolis. Angry Waters is a great local rock band to check out from Mankato.

4. How would you describe your style?

All of our members come from different backgrounds of music. Hardcore Punk, Metal, Nu Metal, Hip Hop, Rock, we all have very diverse tastes. SuperLung’s sound can be traced back to the Seattle Grunge Invasion of the early 1990’s. We are influenced by Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and 311.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have released a few songs digitally. Songs like Sweet Sue which was written about a members all too brief relationship with a stripper to the song Gotta Let Go, which is a song about needing to let go of something or someone you love due to things becoming toxic. These are both up on our Spotify.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We do have new music in the works. We have a full album of new stuff written and ready to record. New songs such as Destined to Rise, a song written and dedicated to Zimmy’s late father Gary, to the song Deal, which delves in the problems facing our country and societies across the world. Another song is called The Ones, it is about change in life and rolling with the punches in the most positive way you can.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We, like most bands, have had to cancel our tour dates for the remainder of 2020 due to the COVID crisis. We plan on recording in late 2020 so we have an album to tour on in 2021, granted we feel safe in doing so.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We are going to continue to write music and enjoy doing it. We will play shows when they are again a viable option. Mostly, we just want to have fun with each other and take it day by day, we want people to like our music and help us continue to do what we love to do, make good music.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We are up on most digital platforms. But our primary places to listen to our stuff is Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/artist/019K5kGk9kQxQR3nEbG0sW?si=WHJXdtuORFiC-CGQyII6aQ. We also have music on our Reverbnation site for free download right now. https://www.reverbnation.com/superlung. You can also check us out on Facebook and Iheart Radio.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We want the listener to enjoy our music and look deeper into the story of the song, they are songs but that are also stories of our life experiences. Know that we come from humble roots and are a working class rock band that wants you to come along on the journey with SuperLung, after all, the fans are what allow us to do what we love, and we appreciate each and every one of you! Much Love!!
