One of The Last Talks of Music and Putting Themselves Together!

Hybrid metal band ONE OF THE LAST began not that long ago, making a genre that was their own combination of sorts. A few song's have been released thus far, with more already to be recorded and released soon enough on future works. As of now, is for them to get together, work things out and create music so all can hear it. The band talks of all of this and more below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

We started in late 2016 from an ad by Parker (guitarist). Mario (guitarist) was the first to answer that ad and after a few jam sessions, they knew they had something special. They were looking for more members to round out the band and Mario previously worked with Tripp at a clothing store. He tried out on bass and it clicked again. We found our drummer Brian from another ad and he clicked as well. The 3 of us were looking for a vocalist and after a few auditions, we found John on a music website. We brought him in and he fit perfectly with us! Unfortunately, Brian left the band in February but the four of us have been moving forward ever since.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The origin of the name is still unknown as to who came up with it. We jokingly tell everyone that the name is our mentality with music. This band will be “one of the last” attempts at making music our career!

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We’re from Brooklyn NY so with everything in NYC, it’s all competitive. Not with other rock/metal bands in the area but NYC has about 1,000 events happening every day. From sports to comedy to plays to even trivia nights at bars, you’re against all of those events. That’s why some of the toughest and most determined bands come out of NYC/NJ. Those bands include Deadtide, Arc, Save the Broken, Stereo Jo, Monument of a Memory and every other band that’s been around for a while.

4. How would you describe your style?

Hybrid Metal is the genre we play. Instead of saying we play a mix of hard rock, metalcore and thrash metal, we keep it at Hybrid Metal. Too many people have listened to our songs and said, “You said you were x genre but I don’t hear it at all”. Well, now we’re Hybrid Metal and ANYTHING we play falls under that umbrella!

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

There are currently 3 songs released (Determined, Shotgun, and Wallflower) and we have a few more songs that we were about to record until the world shut down. Our entire philosophy with song writing is to appeal to different people. We’re not a traditional band nor do we play traditional music. All we want to do is bring people together with our music. Our roots are in hard rock/metal but if we can convert some non-metal fans, that would be awesome. We get quite a number of people telling us “Hey, I don’t normally listen to metal but you guys are great”. That just tells us we’re on the right path!

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We have about 3 completed songs that are ready to record and about 15 different demos that we have to add drums to. Our mission would be to release an EP this year with a new drummer or have one of our friends help us out and record drums for us. Either way, we’re going to figure something out!

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

The world shutting down hurt us with shows/touring. The only positive would be that we’re meeting a lot of new people on social media from all over the world. We’ve played different states before but maybe we can try different countries depending on what the status for concerts is!

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Our main goal is to find a drummer right now so we can get these songs ready and recorded. Once that’s complete, we’ll move onto music videos and lyric videos for those songs and more promoting. There’s almost 3 billion active users on Facebook and we only have 10,000 likes. There’s always more work to be done! Once shows are back, we’ll be playing a lot in different markets. If you want to see us live, we’ll try our hardest to make it happen!

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We’re on all major streaming services but the easiest place would be our website: (www.oneofthelastband.com/music). Unfortunately, we’re out of shirts at the moment but we’ll revamp our website store as soon as we get some new designs!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

That’s a great question! Just knowing that we’re not a clone of another band is important. I feel that a lot of amazing music is left unheard because the band or a listener says the song sounds like “x band”. If you’re not a fan of “x band”, chances are you won’t listen to it, even though, the music could sound completely different. For example, someone told us that we sounded like Metallica with Adam Levine on vocals! We don’t hear Adam’s voice at all! Knowing metal heads however, they’ll read Adam’s name (or realize he’s the singer for Maroon 5) and not give us a shot based on some random review. That’s why we say we’re a Hybrid Metal band and that usually intrigues someone enough to check us out. That’s the fine line when it comes to bands. You want people to hear who you’re influenced by but not so much where they compare you to the next “x band”. We don’t want to be the next “x band”, we just want to be One of the Last!
