Ugly Clinic Chats It Up on Music and Origins!

Post punk, punk rock band UGLY CLINIC have been around for a short while, releasing two single's, with an album in the works! Expect much more from this up and coming band, whose time together is barely starting..... See the chat below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Ugly Clinic was originally started by Davie (Bass player) and Pete (Guitarist) a little over a year ago. They are the most experienced (old fuckers) of the band and had played together previously in a punk covers band back in the early 2000’s. Since then Davie had came up with a few original songs and approached Pete to work on them with him and start a band with the material. They went through a few members before the drummer at the time approached Richard (guitarist) about joining and becoming the second guitarist in the band they’d been looking for. Richard got on board and implemented his classic rock style of guitar playing in with the Punk songs that were already written. The drummer then left and with the power of social media we found Jed (Drummer). The four of us quickly gelled together, with the style and songs that we were creating. We set off to do a few gigs but knew we were missing one key element in the band, a vocalist that could sing our material a lot better than what we were doing! Richard, working as a soundman for a local pub saw Chloe (Vocalist) perform in one of her cover bands and was instantly sold that she needed to be the singer and front woman of the band. Chloe instantly fell in love with the songs thus, Ugly Clinic was complete. 9 months later and we’ve played a good chunk of gigs, grown a loyal fan base, recorded our debut album and already started working on album number two!

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

When it came to naming the band, at the time it was just Pete, Davie, Richard and Jed in the band. We all went away to try come up with different names. Pete being a bit of a comic book buff came up with Ugly Clinic from a Judge Dredd comic book and we were all instantly sold on it when we all brought our suggestions to the table.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

The majority of the band come from Aberdeenshire in the North East of Scotland but the majority of the gigs we’ve played have been in the city of Aberdeen. The music scene up here is great. There are so many fantastic bands up in this corner of the UK, far too many to name. But as far as recommendations go, our guitarist Richard compiled a playlist on Spotify of a crap tonne of bands from the Aberdeen and surrounding area. If you go onto the Ugly Clinic Spotify page, we’ve added the playlist onto our ‘Artist Playlist’ section, hoping that any visitors to our page would go onto it and check out the other fantastic bands this area has to offer.

4. How would you describe your style?

A multi-generational fusion of punk and rock, mixed together in an Ugly cup! The original idea of Ugly Clinic was for it to be a purely punk band, but once the different ages and styles of the members mixed, we have a band, where at the roots still has the Punk to it, but has an eclectic rock feel to it as well.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

So far we have released two singles. Our debut single ‘Just So You Know’ and our latest single ‘Pink Speed and Tequila’. When it comes to our music we aim to have our songs stuck in your head until you have no option but to back and listen again and again. No matter the song, you won’t be able to not bop your head or tap your feet to.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

The two singles we’ve released so far are part of an album that we have recorded and over time we will be releasing the songs one by one. Not too quickly though as we want you feeling the need for more and more. But while we release this first batch of songs, we are already working on album No.2 which we are hoping to get started recording by the end of this year.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

As we’ve only been together as this complete line up for only 9 months, we are still at the stage of getting our music spread out over the country as much as possible. Unfortunately with the Coronavirus, we, like every other band out there have had our shows put on hold. We had planned a few fantastic support slots for touring bands at Krakatoa, Aberdeen and also a headline gig of our own at the Old School House in Hull. We are hoping that once all this blows over we can get back on track, rescheduling our gigs. Maybe even making our trip to Hull part of a mini tour would be great!

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We are all determined to make this band be as successful as we can make it. We are going to continue to work hard at writing and releasing new material and gigging as much as we physically can, spreading our music to as much people as we can. Again, once the coronavirus all blows over we’re gonna go hard at it picking up where we left off!

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Any streaming or download platform you can think of and we are on there. Whichever streaming platform you prefer, just type in Ugly Clinic and we’ll be there! Also follow us on Facebook,com/UglyClinic to know when we're about to drop a new track.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We’d like new listeners to our music to have a good time with our music. Stick the songs on, crank them up loud and have a blast with them. And remember that there's gonna be a lot more to come!
