Virtue In Vain Discusses New Music and More!

Metalcore band VIRTUE IN VAIN has released two EP's and a new single as of late in recent years. An all new piece of music is being worked upon currently. The band discusses their music and much more all below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Virtue In Vain started in 2012 but didn’t start playing shows and releasing music until 2014. We have grown over time as people and musicians and we think that really shows in our music. We have played many shows and been on tours a number of times, making great friends along the way.

Member wise we have myself (Hywel) as the vocalist, I have been in a few bands in the past but this band was started by myself and is the combination of all my experience as a vocalist.

Our Guitarist (Emyr) is my brother, he started learning guitar and joined this band and has been our lead guitarist ever since.

Our Bassist (Mason) has been in a number of bands in the same scene, we have played with when we had other members. Over time when we were looking for a bassist he joined us and has been a great addition to the band.

Our Drummer (Dan) was also in another local band, and we ended up talking so he joined us and has been our drummer ever since.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The band name Virtue In Vain is in essence the idea of anti-idolism. The name portrays the idea that you shouldn’t have to look up or follow the same path as someone or something just because it has been portrayed as successful.

That just because you take the path less travelled by doesn’t make your view any less valid, we are all different and wealth and success has no bearing on character.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are based out of Cardiff, Wales. However our Guitarist lives in London. The South Wales music scene is very much alive. So many different bands both in the metal genre and every other genre. Every night you could easily find a show that suits your music taste with the amount of talented musicians around.

Some local bands to check out are::

Miles From Home

Equinox

Calling Apollo

Glass Heart

That Which Ate The Moon

4. How would you describe your style?

Good question, I would say in terms of genre we rooted in Metalcore but we lean more to the progressive/technical side of metalcore.

Live wise we pride ourselves on being as energetic as possible. We aim to put on a show that you won’t forget. We take our inspirations from Make Them Suffer, The Devil Wears Prada & Letlive

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have released 2 EP’s and this year (2022) a single. They are as follows::

EP - For All You Know Is The Mask I Wore (2014)

EP - Dusk // Dawn (2019)

Single - The Whispers Of Sleep (2022)

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes, we are currently working on our next release which will follow on the story of all our previous releases. So stay tuned to our socials to hear teasers and keep updated.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We have a show on June 5th in Rotherham, which will be our first show back since the pandemic hit, which we are excited for.

We also have some tour plans in the works which will be announced later this year. We can’t wait to play live and meet new people at shows.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

More Music and more touring. We want to release the next chapter of the story for this band in our next music release as well as tour in other countries and hopefully the US.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can listen to our music and buy merch at our link below, which shows you the options for the streaming sites you prefer as well as a link to our merch store.

Currently we have a sale on merch, so pick it up while it lasts.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

I (Hywel) would like the listener to hear the passion and emotion in our music. We write songs with a story and emotion and mix that with our heavy metalcore sound.
