Myosotis Further Discusses New Material, History, and the Plans Ahead!

Modernized metalcore/post-hardcore band MYOSOTIS have two EP's out, with more material in the works currently! The band goes into further discussion about their works, origin and how they hope to play shows again real soon.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

We are a six-headed Band with people coming from different parts of Germany and finally met in Hamburg.

Kilina Harrsen – Vocals, Timo Hazerli – Vocals, Max Mäder – Guitar, Calvin Rösicke – Guitar, Julian Seiler – Drums, Thomas Grigo – Bass.

In 2017 Kilian set up an announcement in a local blog for musicians on which everyone replied separately. All of us always had a deep connection to music and from the first second on we also felt that connection to each other.

It only took us 6 month to produce our first EP “Distance” and also if our style was not defined as it is now, we directly had a direction we wanted to follow. The enthusiasm and energy was huge and so we early shared the staged with well-known bands like Meshuggah, First Blood, Wolf Down, Tell You What Now, Awake the Deamer etc.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Actually Myosotis is the botanical name for a plant, in Germany called “Forget-me-not” and symbolizes love and trust but also has a meaning which stands for farewell. As a gift the flower impresses the whish not to be forgotten and is also used as a grave-flower. We want to create a feeling of a community for our listeners. Everybody is welcome and has the worth to be remembered and the value as a person to belong to something and to believe in something. Many people nowadays suffer in silence, in pain and have to face the pressure of society, family, work and other outbound factors alone. With the slogan "WeAreMyosotis" we want to give them the feeling being part of something, that they can feel being understood.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are based in Hamburg, Germany a wonderful city with different international cultural influences.
As the place of discovery of the Beatles the music culture is one of a kind. The different quarters are well-known for different kinds of music and many small clubs are hidden in nearly every street. Historically the underground scene in Hamburg was always strong for Punk & Ska but many things have changed. With the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg has on of the most impressive philharmonics in the world and the variety from small clubs to big concert arenas is enormous. Local Booking Agencies, such as MFS-Music, some good friends of us, are taking care of the small and growing bands and are giving them the chance to have a stage in the fully booked scene. We have many friends we like to share the stage with, for example Infragments (Metalcore), Massephase (German Punk Rock) or Revaira (Metalcore). You should definitely check those guys out!

4. How would you describe your style?

We would consider our style to be the “New Wave of Modern-Metalcore” but we actually do not want to be minimized to a certain style. Our songs have a wide range which go far beyond classic Metalcore from progressive and very technical part to Jazz influenced rhythms and classical Pop chorus with some electronical backings. Lyrically we explore the depths of the human mind and process the emotions of love-hate, depression, change and distance and this variety is what we want to convey to our listeners, no matter which kind of music they are usually bound to. It`s about crossing borders but still keeping your own signature. We combine melodic stanzas and refrains with brutal breakdowns and technical verses contrasted with the passionate guttural and clean vocals.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

In 2017 we released our debut EP called “Distance” just 6 months after the band was found. We had a vision of creating songs which should help people to get through their darkest times and to give them strength to carry the weight they have to bear in their everyday lives. The EP includes some of our evergreens like the Song “High Voltage” or “Waves”.

One year later, in 2018, we released our second EP Evosia, which stand for “Evolution-Sickness”.
The songs are about the changes in life, which are not able to avoid and the fear of evolution and losing yourself and your identity during the development. A lot of people are often afraid of the unknown and hide in order to avoid moving forward. We dedicates this EP to those people and want to encourage them to get out of their nutshells. Change can be intimidating, but change is development and if we´re open to it, we can thrive and good things will happen.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes we do! After Evosia we took some time to work on our development. After we rushed the first two years of our history and dropped the two EP's we felt like things need some time to grow and to become even more meaningful than before to be ready to enter the next stage. Therefore we left the borders of our hometown behind and looked for new partners who could join our journey.
We gave the trust to Christoph Wiezcorek from Sawdust Recordings to make the most of our new songs and we reached out to produce some new videos.

The first song called “What If…” will be released through Blood Blast Distribution on 17/07/2020 and we cannot wait anymore to drop the bomb. Working on new material for such a long time and to give so much into them means a lot to us and to finally share it makes us very excited.

But of course “What If…” will not be the only song which is waiting to get out seeing the world.
That`s what we can say so far.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Playing shows is the most meaningful part of being a band for us. Getting close with our fans who honor our music and our messages is just amazing. Of course playing shows nowadays is quite difficult due to the Covid-19 situation but still we hope that we can make some shows in the last quarter of the year. There are still some dates confirmed and we wish that there would be more to come especially because we have some new releases we want to play live for the people.

The current live dates are as follows:

31.10.2020 at Full Metal Mensa Warm Up, Musa, Göttingen DE, together with our best bodies in Tell You What Now.
14.11.2020 at Hedgehog Festival, HeadCrash, Hamburg DE, together with Tragedy of Mine
05.12.2020 at The Great Unknown, Recklinghausen DE, together with One Final Fight.

Additionally we are working on some streaming festivals, which will be announced shortly!

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Our plans are quiet simple actually. We want to spread our message and to reach and move people with our music. What we do is our passion and to be able to share it with the world is something we are very grateful for. Therefore we hope the reach out to some new stages and to have some more shows not only in Germany but across Europe. Of Course we all have big dreams and want to play for example in Japan one day but we are aware that this is nothing that come easily but we keep on dreaming.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can listen to our music on all common streaming platforms, such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, YouTube etc. Currently we are only able to offer our merchandise live but we are working on establishing a Big Cartel shop as well as some other possibilities for having some more merch available also independent from your global location. So it`s worth staying in touch with our social media accounts on Instagram or Facebook to get all the news and information. Additionally we are featured on BANDBOND, which is a great app especially for heavy music and to get all our social media posts at once, also from our personal channels.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We want to pull out our listeners of their everyday lives, emotionally and physically, and above all, make a lasting impression with the songs we write. As mentioned before "WeAreMyosotis" and that`s what we stand for. Everyone in this world has a right to live and a place to be. We want to encourage everyone who is struggling daily to face their problems and to help them to get through to it.
