Mark Nelson Talks of Solo and Band Projects!

Blues acoustic artist and band guy MARK NELSON has his solo act as well as his trio band THE MARK NELSON BAND. Both of which have content out about, with new material always in the works! Mark himself, goes into talks about these groups and what he has lined-up next for them.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

ANS: I was born with one arm but with songs in my head. It wasn’t until I was in my teens that I found a way of playing the guitar with one arm. I formed a rock band in my early 20s, the poppy heads, and at last was writing and performing pop songs. The band lineup changed over a period of 20 years sometimes it was hard rock almost grungy other times it was pure pop. We almost found fame when the legendary Gus Dudgeon managed to produce the band until his untimely death. Eventually I decided to go solo and acoustic playing ballads and blue songs. I’ve been doing it ever since both solo and with my own acoustic blues band. My blues band are: Paul Stone concussion, Kevin Rowe on bass and Glen Vaal on blues harp. I write all of the songs, sing and play guitar.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

ANS: Nothing fancy really it’s just my name!

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

ANS: Based in Farnham in Surrey. There is a great live acoustic scene out here. Artists I would recommend are: Gavin Thomas & Hannah Turner

4. How would you describe your style?

ANS: A mixture of pop, acoustic ballads and blues

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

ANS: I have released four solo albums three pop ballads and a Psychedelic pop album, my blues band has one album out or original acoustic blues. I enjoy writing in a broad range of musical styles and I feel a 70's style funk album coming on. Expect anything but hopefully catchy songs.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

ANS: I come up with a lot of varied ideas and a new blues band album is already half produced and that 70's funk thing is crying out to be heard so yes, lots in the pipeline.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

ANS: With the lockdown still soldiering on my band is planning on hosting a live video watch party but no live venue performances planned yet.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

ANS: I’m itching to get my electric guitar out again and maybe play my psychedelic rock album live otherwise just extend the blues set and keep striving to write the perfect pop song!

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

ANS: Website - marknelsonmusic.co.uk
Facebook - marknelsonsolo
YouTube - marknelson65

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

ANS: Quality, memorable songs which are mind-worms that never go away!
