A Room Swept White Talks on Why They Were Taught To Fail

Post-hardcore group A Room Swept White, have just released their debut album "Taught To Fail", with so much in the works following it, there is no containment! The band got together to talk about their album, the music behind it, and how they are looking forward to playing shows and touring!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band was originally formed around early 2011. James and Alex were the main founders, and in late 2011 I (Ryan) joined as the vocalist. We began playing shows on the regular, and we then proceeded to start writing and recording music.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

We came across the book and thought it could work as a slightly different name to most out there.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are a Southern based band, which originates from Crawley and Horsham. The local music scene used to be lively around 2013/2014 and we would play a local show near enough every week as it was always fun, performing to both old and new faces regularly. In 2018 there is barely anything going on, and not one proper music venue that we’re aware of.

4. How would you describe your style?

I think we are unique in the sense we have inspirations in music like most, but we have our own vibe when it comes to writing songs. We all like different sorts of music too so we kind of incorporate it all together to try and come up with ideas that work well. We always try to come up with something a bit different to the norm, without getting too wacky and out-there!

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We worked very hard towards the release of our new album recently, which is quite heavy in many ways, but we always try to keep some sense of melody whether that’s through backing elements or catchy singing and calmer sections. Hopefully people can dig into the meaning of each song and reflect off of the album as a whole.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We have just released our debut album "Taught To Fail" which is available via Spotify, iTunes and all major music platforms.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We have a lot planned out for the year. Our booking agent is working hard! We’re looking to get on as many shows and tours as possible, simply to get our name out there and get people listening to and enjoying our music.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Play/tour with awesome bands that we like, meet new people, meet people that respect music like we do and enjoy our stuff. Generally having fun while we’re at it!

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Spotify, iTunes, Deezer, Amazon Music, Google Play etc. All the big ones! We also have merchandise available via aroomsweptwhite.bigcartel.com.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

To try and understand the meaning of the lyrics to our songs from the new album as we focused a lot on how a song can make someone feel if they can relate to it. Mostly topics that revolve around the world around us these days, which seems to be a growing influence on everyone. We’re just hoping to give the listeners some feeling of attachment to this album through the music and messages in the songs and hopefully keep them coming back for more.
