The Lotus Talks of New Music with Shows and Touring to Follow!

The Lotus started way back in 2004, releasing a full-length and 2 EP's later on,with all new music currently a work in progress expected later this year. Their plans for playing shows and touring will follow with the release of their new album. The band goes into discussion about their formation, music, name, and other plans of activity for this year.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Hi and thank you for interviewing us. The band started in 2004 when first Rox met Luca: we initially began playing some covers as many kids do but we immediately realized we wanted more and we immediately started working on some ideas and riffs.

In 2008 Kristal and Marco joined the band and that was the real start of a professional band as we decided to record and release our first album 'Forgotten Silence', which eventually came out in 2011.
We then released 2 EPs in 2013 and 2015, respectively called 'Tomorrow' and 'Awakening' and now we are finally working on our new album which should be come out this year.

2. What's the origin of the band's name?

The band’s name was chosen by our first guitarist who was in love with R.E.M.’s song Lotus. We liked it and we realised then, that it was the perfect name for us. A few months later we also found out that its meaning is purity and rebirth and we realised that was the name that perfectly represented us.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We come from a small town in Italy called San Benedetto del Tronto. Music scene in Italy is completely fucked up to be honest: don't get us wrong, there are a lot of valid artists but they don't have enough space to express themselves. It's just awful. In the UK instead, even though rock music is clearly decaying, local acts still have space to perform and let people know they're there.

4. How would you describe your style?

We struggled a lot to find a definition of our genre. We don't need to clarify that to ourselves, but the people need it. Everyone needs you to be classified in a specific area even though you don’t recognise it as yours: even these days where music is much more contaminated, you need to have your mark. So, having said that, we’d say our music is a kind of Alternative Rock with a lot of influences from Metal, Electronic and Classic music. Some people compared us to Muse, Faith No More, Dream Theater and Placebo.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We've released our first album, "Forgotten Silence", in 2011 under a British independent record label called Copro Records. This work sounds very proggy and it's very far from what we're doing right now. As we said before, we've released 2 EP's afterwards: the first one called "Tomorrow" in 2013 which is the heaviest work we've ever composed and the second one called "Awakening", which is completely different, more similar to our first album but less proggy and more ambient.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

In 2016 we have started a collaboration with Muse's early producer, Paul Reeve, and this is still going on. We are finally going to finish to record our new album in May and hopefully it should be released later this year. We are convinced this is our best work ever.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We are currently promoting our latest singles gigging in the Manchester area and sometimes in Italy too. However, we're planning to start a UK/EU tour after the new album is released.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

If we have to be sincere, we stopped long term planning: the world is changing so fast that you really don't have the time to relish all the good things if you spend your time planning for the future. By the way, for now plans are: recording new album, release the fourth single and the album as well. Then, start touring!

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We have already released three singles that will be included in our new album and you can watch the videos on YouTube or Vevo. We'd be very happy if you buy our music and you can find it on iTunes, Amazon, Google etc. For more information just visit our website www.the-lotus.com or our Facebook page www.facebook.com/thelotusofficial.

10. What is it you'd like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We would love him or her to think: wow, finally a band that is worth to listen to, a band that gives me goosebumps like most of the band I used to listen to in the past, and finally a band that is worth to watch live too!
