Singer/songwriter FANNI MAYER has been inspired by many different genres, so her music is a reflection of just that. Thus forth, her content consists of 3 single's with many more to come. See what Fanni Mayer herself has to say in the chat below.

1. Please tell us about your history.

Features on Hungary's top hip-hop band Follow the Flow’s live performances in 2017-2018 brought me to the attention of Universal Hungary who released my debut single 'Horizon' in March of 2018.
Its success earned a spot for me at HOTS - Hungarian Oncoming Tunes, a workshop for emerging European talent, where we connected with Ville Leppanen (The Animal Farm UK) then I started to send him demos and ideas and in January 2019 I went to London to record new music. First single of my upcoming EP came out in September of 2019. A sultry mid-tempo pop/RnB track called 'Grace N Dirt' is about layers and contradictions in people's personalities and desires. The second one called 'Stranger Things' released in April 2020 and this is my rawest and most vulnerable song so far. This one is about how damaged father figure make us tend to follow wrong patterns over and over, a soft yet powerful indie pop ballad tracks the death of illusions, broken relationships and turning the tables on it all.

2. What’s the origin of your name?

My first name is 'Fanni' which is a french origin name and in France they usually write with 'y' in Hungary when I was born it was one of the rarest names and they thought that it would be more "acceptable" if it's written with 'i' so that's why I write it like this: Fanni. The meaning of the name is different in several countries, languages and cultures, meaning “free” or “one who is free” in some countries, and “crowned” or “crowned in victory” in others. And well I know... in English it means
a person's buttocks or a woman's genitals haha but what else could be better than those things (laughs) 'Mayer' is my surname it's a German origin name and it means “greater” or  “superior” or  “mayor”.

3. Where are you based and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local artists you could recommend?

I'm a Budapest based singer/songwriter and here the music scene is very various full of emerging breakthrough artists not only here but in Europe and worldwide too just to mention few names: The Qualitons, Mörk, Vera Jonas Experiment, Jazzbois, Odd ID, Middlemist Red, Ivan and the Parazol, Blahalousiana.

4. How would you describe your style?

I was inspired by so many different genres so my music is a reflection of that. I'm a Spice Girls-Leonard Cohen kinda girl. And I think genres and putting labels on things are so so out of time. The future is label free!

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

I released 3 singles so far 2 with 'Animal Farm UK' and so much more to come. Expect the unexpected.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes I've got so many new ideas. Songs and visuals and I'm very excited about it!

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

This pandemic situation caused a lot of uncertainty in every sector so you gotta re-plan everything and use the tools of 21st century. I'm working on it and try to stay as focused and flexible as possible.

8. What plans do you have for the future as an artist?

Write new music with new people, experience, learn, evolve, take risks, moving forward and enjoy the ride.

9. Where can we listen to you and where can we buy your stuff?

I'm on every streaming platform and you can also buy my music on Amazon and Bandcamp if you'd like to support an emerging Hungarian act.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Realness, Contrast, Powerful yet Vulnerable, Soft yet Gritty, Grace N Dirt.
