Halysis Expresses Concentration and Music Creativity!

Up and coming metalheads HALYSIS have a debut album out titled "Cerulean", with even all new music in the works right now! The band will continue to make music as long as possible and see where it takes them next! See what else the band had to express about themselves and the music.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The first time we started playing together was somewhere in the 6th grade, with Jose (guitar) and Santeri (bass) and Samuel (drums). We had known each other for quite some time, since we were in the same primary school. Soon we started practising at Samuel’s parents place and learned our first cover songs from bands like Metallica, Pantera, Bullet For My Valentine, Trivium and Avenged Sevenfold. Later on we moved to a new rehearsal space, and a few years later our second guitarist, also named Santeri joined the band. We started writing "Cerulean" together somewhere in 2015.

Everyone in the band is self-taught, except for Samuel, who has a background in classical music, as he studied percussion's in conservatory for 9 years. Still, he thinks he learned a lot, if not even more in our practice sessions, and maybe the more technical aspect came from conservatory, which of course helped him a lot too.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

For quite some time we didn’t have a name at all and struggled to get one that would suit us as well. After a few name suggestions from everyone, one day Jose came up with the name Halysis. We didn’t really think about the "real" meaning of the name, more like how it feels and fits to the genre of music we perform. We all liked it, so we kept it.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We come from a city called Lahti, located in Southern Finland. Around 100 kilometers (62 miles) from our capital Helsinki. For a fairly small city, Lahti offers quite a good variation of different music and culture. In the metal scene there’s a lot of underground bands performing in a few local bars that are known for their love for heavy music. Some good bands that have their roots in Lahti are Profane Omen and Wolfheart. We’re sure there are many more bands that we haven’t discovered yet!

4. How would you describe your style?

It’s a mixture, that’s for sure! Before our second guitarist Santeri came along, we had strong influences from metalcore. Bands like Trivium, As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage gave us a lot of inspiration. After Santeri stepped in, he showed us more of the technical death metal, black metal and progressive metal side, which started to shape our song writing and listening habits to the state that they are currently. So, you could say that our sound consists of technical death metal, metalcore, and progressive metal with little twists.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

So far we have released our debut album "Cerulean", which contains 11 tracks in total. For someone who hasn't heard our music yet, I could say that you can expect a lot of meaningful, dark melodies and heavy riffing. We’re sure that our album "Cerulean" has something for everyone!

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes, we have new music in the works with a new singer. Fun fact about the album, the drummer (Samuel) actually learned to do both scream and clean vocals just so we could finish the album. Although, Samuel doesn’t want to sacrifice his drumming by doing primary vocals at the same time, so we looked for a singer, and found one.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

As the situation is what it is, it might take a while for us to be able to perform live. Right now, we concentrate on practicing everything with our new signer and make sure we’re ready after the global situation is under control.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Even though we just released our debut album, we’re already practicing and writing new songs. Future releases are still unknown, but they are coming, that’s for sure! We’re going to keep making music as long as possible and see where the road takes us.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Right now we have only digital releases available of "Cerulean" on Spotify,YouTube, Bandcamp, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal, and many more digital stores! You can support us by purchasing our songs from Bandcamp or iTunes. So far, we haven’t done any merchandise yet, but we’ll come to that later!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

A feeling that a listener could understand or even identify with, what eventually makes them come back to the same song over and over again.
