JIBE's Toby Shares His Energy Through Music

JIBE are the legends from Texas. Indeed this rock band have released a few singles off their latest album "Epic Tales of Human Nature". That album was produced by Matt Noveskey (Blue October), and mixed by Grammy award-winning producer/engineer Toby Wright (Metallica, Alice In Chains, Korn). That said, this album will surely be taking them places, as guitarist/song writer Toby Buttenbender, goes into saying on how he wants this band to tour the world, sharing the energy of what their music can do!

1.What role do you play in the band?

Toby: I'm the Guitarist/Songwriter of this band.

2. Does your band's name JIBE have a meaning behind it at all?

Toby: It means to be in harmony or accord.

3. What has influenced your sound and style?

Toby: So many influences to name…everything from Sabbath to Zeppelin to Van Halen to Alice In Chains…Tool, NIN, Metallica, Soundgarden. I could go on and on with this list. We as musicians absorb the outside world and our surroundings and then emote those feelings and thoughts and influences through our instruments.

4. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Toby: Joe wrote the lyrics to all of these songs on this new record. They all have meanings for me which I’m sure are entirely different from his perspective. I think that’s what makes great songwriting. When you can take something and interpret it in your own way to give it your own meaning.

5. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

Toby: Yes we write all of our own material. The songs happen in several different ways. Sometimes we are all in the same room and this buzz starts to happen and the next thing you know a song pops out. We have this chemistry that is just insane. Other times I will bring in some guitar riffs and we will write around those. Other times the bass and drums will just be going and we will write something there or Joe may have an idea and we will go that direction…tons of different ways. On this album a lot of times I would send Joe a guitar riff and he would send me back an entire song full of lyrics…then we took those ideas into the practice room with the full band.

6. How do you describe your music to people?

Toby: Melodic ROCK…sometimes it’s heavy and dark and other times we are lead into the light.

7. What image do you think your music conveys?

Toby: Hopefully it conveys the idea of endless amounts of beautiful possibilities.

8. You will soon be releasing your new album "pic Tales of Human Nature", in which you got to work with Matt Noveskey and Toby Wright. What was the experience like working alongside them and overall for you guys?

Toby: We had an amazing experience working with them both. Matt is a great producer. He allowed us to be ourselves and be creative but also jumped in and shared his thoughts and ideas with us. Which is something we had always wanted, a fifth member if you will, Toby Wright mixed the record and did an amazing job…extremely talented individual.

9. Does this album have a concept to go with it, can you describe the album's artwork?

Toby: Joe is very good at this, lol…we spoke at length on what the album artwork should be, initially I had the idea of an Alice in Wonderland type thing to go along with the title…Joe took that and then created an even deeper and more incredible version which is what we ended up with. Joe did all of the art and created this beautiful imagery that we are all very proud of.

10. What is your favourite song on the album and why?

Toby: I don’t know that I can pick just one. Each song is so unique to itself and different from the others. They all take on a life of their own to create this epic journey from beginning to end.

11. What can fans expect from the new album?

Toby: I think fans can expect to hear some great rock songs that we all can relate to and rock out too as well.

12. What was the writing and recording process like for this album?

Toby: Joe and I started sending ideas back and forth over the Internet to each other. I would send him some guitar riffs and a few days later he would send me back a full composition with lyrics…it was pretty amazing to hear the melodies and words that he was putting to my music…I was floored by it all…we would work on the ideas and then take them into the practice room and the studio and write the rest with Ben and Corey on the spot…We mostly put full band compositions together in the studio and recorded them right away.

13. Why do you think people should check out your new album once released?

Toby: I think it’s a breath of fresh air. We don’t rely on tracks…just good ol’ rock n roll.

14. How would you say you differ from other bands and artists on the scene?

Toby: We are more of a no frills type band. What you see is what you get. Its raw and real and fresh. We just plug in our instruments to our amps and go.

15. What do you want to achieve as a band?

Toby: We want to tour the world and share our music and energy with as many people as possible and hopefully inspire people and promote peace and good will…we are all in this together.

16. What does next year hold for you?

Toby: Lots of touring to support this record!!!!
