Thrash, punk, doom act PRISON who's member Zack, the six string death kneel, forked tongue invocation, discussed the band's matters from music, to namesake, down to the plans ahead.

1. Let’s start off with an icebreaker. If you could describe your band in 3 words, what would they be?

Fake Black Metal.

2. What are your names and what do you do in the band?

Gwen plays bass and gives face. Zack writes lyrics, sings and plays guitar. Kris plays drums and does background vocals about as poorly as can be expected from a drummer.

3. You guys are a newer band so many people might know about your history. Would you be able to delve into it a little?

We've actually been playing together on and off for years. We come from heavy music: Gwen's shit is noise rock and stoner metal. Zack likes punk and thrash and NWOBHM. Kris is into power violence, hardcore, grind/death and black metal and tries to work blast beats or breakdowns into every new song. The three of us are old friends and one of the biggest reasons for us to practice is to get our
regularly scheduled bitch fests in every week. Prison is about getting in a room with our favorite people, loving and supporting each other and writing songs that reflect our collaborative outlook and aesthetics.

4. Where does the name Prison come from?

Our band is called Prison actually. When we started the band, our goal was to have a name that was heavy. Zack thought it up and we all agreed that it was way heavier than the actual music we were writing at the time. None of us have been to prison, but the idea of locking up humans is about the shittiest, worst thing imaginable. Seems like you'd have to assume that at some conceptual level, we
wanted to sound like the shittiest, worst thing imaginable. Kris doesn't believe that that goal can be successfully achieved with clean vocals, but Zack tries to compensate by writing about heavy, shitty things. As a band, we'd like to say fuck the prison industrial complex and the racist, profiteering pieces of shit that perpetuate its daily tragedies.

5. Who are some of your influences?

Collectively it's something like Bad Brains, Burning Love, Karp, Melvins, Sleep, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, early Metallica, Boris, Fugazi and Motorhead. Individually, it's broad as fuck.

6. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Occultism has offered the clearest through line for us as a band, but with Come, Annihilation Zack expanded that lyrical palette quite a bit. This new batch of songs offers perspective on the inevitability of death, the arbitrary binary of Western morality and the pitiable human condition. Religious and occultist themes show up for good measure as well and everything gets sweetened with the standard Prison sarcasm, although we're probably a little less tongue-in-cheek with this record than we have been in the past.

7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

A while back, we played a couple one-off Fugazi covers for a themed show some friends put on, but other than that we've produced all of our own material. That process usually comes out one of two ways: lyrics first or riffs first. Zack brings one or two ideas to the group for refinement and we add and refine our individual parts until it's a song. Sometimes that takes an hour. Sometimes it takes months.

8. What was the recording process like for this new album of yours?

We recorded with Jeff McNulty at Kill Room here in Seattle. Jeff is a friend of ours, he's a fixture in Seattle heavy music and he's played in rad bands that we love (fucking Bloodhag, Android Hero, Cages, etc.), so we trusted him to strike the balance we were after. We had a list of finished songs we wanted to put down, so we talked about what we were trying to accomplish and then did it as fast as we could. It was the best recording experience we've had to date. We're really happy with it.

9. Would you say that you have a favorite song off this album and which is it and why?

Nah. Would you?

10. Why should people go forth and check out this album?

If you like hardcore, speed metal, thrash, sludge, noise rock and/or garage punk, you'll probably like this shit. Prison is a fun, cohesive amalgamation of all of those influences. We think of Come, Annihilation this way: You can dance or pit to these songs or you sit on your floor and think about killing yourself to these songs. If that's not the kind of fun you're looking to have, we can't be friends.

11. What would you say separates you from other bands in the scene?

There are a lot of killer bands in Seattle right now. We share a lot of the same influences, so what makes us different is just how we put shit together. At our shows, Prison is routinely either the heaviest band on a punk bill or the punkest band on a metal bill.

12. How about this next year, what is in store from you guys?

For those of you in the Seattle area, our record release show will be at the ChaCha on March 28th. We're stoked to share a bill with fucking killer bands and good friends in Into the Storm (intothestorm.bandcamp.com), Voycheck (voycheck.bandcamp.com) and Procedure
(standardoperating.bandcamp.com). After that, we've got a few things in the works to promote Come, Annihilation so check in with us on Facebook (facebook.com/prisonseattle), Instagram (@prisonseattle) and Bandcamp (prison.bandcamp.com). Thanks a ton!

Inspired by DJ Emidio Vaz from his own popularized independent radio show Emidio's Rock Den, comes volume 2 in a series of hard rock and metal acts, featured upon a compilation release on the Bongo Boy Music Group/Bongo Boy Records companies. This being titled "Emidio's Rock Den, Vol. 2", contains 18-tracks of various artists, taking on such bands like Kidd Comet with their track "(She's My) Serpentine", along with others like "Tell Me", by Howzat, with many more "Victims of Insanity" by Justin Mark Briggs, "When Metal Ruled the World", by Ace Macen. So many other bands and their tracks come off this release, there’s quite the offering right here alone.

With that said though, these acts already selected and the tracks accompanying them are already quite the pickings as they are. Delivering such angst and rebellion is one thing, but the quality of the tracks, make that hard rocking heavy metal vibe stand out far and wide. It brings out that classic era of the 80’s meets the 90’s with the bands like White Snake, Kiss, some Metallica, AC/DC you get a very mix match of styles going on with these tracks here.

The many others off the 18 total available, are a lot like these, being that mix match of tunes with a lot of style. You will not be bored by hearing these not at all. They deliver complexity and energy unlike any other. When listening to the entirety of this album, you are hit with a rush of fuel, adrenaline, and fun. DJ go getter Emidio, picked some good acts for this compilation release, it will be a hard time finding even greater if not as great of acts, to go onto the next volume in this on going series.

When it comes down to it, all that is offered here, is pretty much a good variety and offering for this combination of styling and musical choices. Yeah it takes on the hard rock and heavy metal genres that many hear nowadays or then,  but that’s what makes this release one to be heard multiple times over.

American death metal band Abhorrent Affliction will release their debut album "Forever Will He Reign", on April 15th 2019. The album was recorded/mixed and mastered at Black Fortress Studio by the band. Vocals and bass were recorded with Mick Kenney from "Anaal Nathrakh". The bands debut single "Your Pleasure Is My Desire" is available on Soundcloud below.

Check out the single here: https://soundcloud.com/kostya-aronberg/abhorrent-affliction-your-pleasure-is-my-desire.

Abhorrent Affliction was formed in 2018 in Portland, OR by Alexander Lucian (guitar/drums) and Corpse Dick, Spokane, WA (vocals). The band released a demo (My Love is Cruelty) and an EP (The Kingdom of Light) in 2018.

Dwayne Simon or "Muffla" got his start as being one of the original pioneers of the hip hop scene. Thus, being the sole man responsible for bring hip hop from the get go with his specialty ingredients, of his so called sauce i.e. writing producing and arranging a variety of hits over time. This would include artists like LL Cool J, Run DMC and Ice Cube, Simon being one to have ruled the charts as an original member of the LA Posses, a real legendary multi-platinum production team source as it were. Moving forward creating a lot of tracks that would be hits right after the next, that would include such as LL Cool J's "I Need Love," and "Jingling Baby," "Beats to the Rhyme" for Run DMC and "Jackin' the Beats" for Ice Cube. Simon knew what he was doing, as he was a hit maker of his time and prime.

Fast forward quite a bit, Simon is still at it, with his latest and most newest project at the time, an endeavor of a production company called Covert Entertainment and Soundworks. Making his mark back into the business of music, him releasing a recent release titled "Suspicious Packages #2", his first album of production in 20 years believe it or not. Being executive producer, and having his own company also producing the album, with him also performing and arranging, along with writing too, Simon with many others, bring it all upon this one release of a combo. Such tracks like "We Ain't Goin' Home", "Bars & Skills", "Like Ya Style", and "Grown & Sexy", these song selections are quite interesting.

To say the least, the interesting songs here, are very upbeat, being creative and just enjoyable. The tones of the beats, vocalization, it all makes the material click. Everything pretty much just sounds alike but it is still original. Each and every one of these artists, including Simon just builds upon the track they got going, it keeps the album wholesome and energetic. Not one of these tracks gets tiresome or annoying, but more fun with each play through pretty much.

As it would have it, “Suspicious Packages #2”, is a release, to bring creativity, craft and variety to the listener. Each of the tracks, aside from these picked out, will likely keep you entertained for hours on end.

The THOMAS WILBY GANG play some good old swampy raw but country blues rock tunes, that can be heard on what else, their debut full-length album titled "Backwoods Crackin'" out now! The band took sometime to disclose the details behind the album, their music and some input on themselves as well.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

We have Guy Thomas on vocals, guitar, harmonica and getting stuff done. Liz Walne on vocals and shaking percussion stuff. Becca Thomas on bass, backing vocals and snacks.  Gaz Wilby on drums, joints, backing vocals and the occasional lead vocal. Tony Wade on everything cosmic and keyboard related. And finally me, Si Askew, just guitars. The band started in 2012 when myself and Guy realized that we both had a liking for Americana and blues based music, so we got together and got some ideas down, liked what we had and started putting the band together. Various members had previously played in other bands together, so it came together pretty easy.  Liz was forced to join the band after she was heard singing karaoke at a family party. Tony was the last to join, he glued everything together nicely.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

I thought it would be good to name us after a crazed, narcotic fueled outlaw from the Wild West. I couldn’t find one, so I made one up from our band members surnames. I think it was just a temporary name, but it stuck.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are based in and around Wakefield, which is in the U.K.’s finest county, Yorkshire. The music scene is good with lots of great bands. There’s too many to list here, but some favorites to check out are The Sourheads, Dark Horse [which Tony plays in], The Magic Droids Band and Sux Blood [Gaz plays in both].

4. How would you describe your style?

Blues, rock, Americana, taking in influences from the Stones, Taj Mahal, Free, Fleetwood Mac, right up to newer artists such as Howlin Rain, Phil Cook, Dan Auerbach and The Black Keys.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We released our debut album on CD and download in 2016, called Backwoods Crackin’.
Hopefully you can expect some damn fine music that will stand the test of time and go with you through your life..

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

The new album is ready and is off to be pressed at this very moment. It’s taken quite a while because we decided to build a studio and record it ourselves! The studio is based around a Calrec analogue desk that Guy got from the BBC in London, hopefully listeners will appreciate the months of rewiring that went into and the beautiful analogue sound! The album will be available on cd, download and double vinyl. The first 100 copies are on limited colored vinyl, so keep your eyes peeled. We’re also writing music for the third album and we have a live set to mix and that’ll be available as a download.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

I don’t think we’d be able to do any intensive touring, most of the band have families, so would probably prove difficult. It would be a pretty huge tour bus! We’d like to do some choice gigs and festivals though, maybe support some more well known bands. We’ve done some great local gigs, supporting artists like Temperance Movement and Marcus Bonfanti. We’ll be doing a few shows to promote the LP.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Keep on doing what we’re doing, making good music and to get to a point where we can make a living out of it, with a bit of luck.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Music, Google Play, Deezer, Youtube, Soundcloud. Also on www.thomaswilbygang.com, we’ll be updating our media in the coming weeks with the new LP tracks.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

That they wanted to listen to it again.

Indie blues rock band MUDDY WOLFE is from down under literally Australia out of Canberra. Since forming they went straight ahead with playing here and there, along with working upon what would be volume 1 of an EP series or full-length series of releases. Their Vol. 1 EP release out as of right now. The band got together to discuss the EP, themselves, and the music that makes them sing the blues!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Muddy Wolfe was actually born in Taiwan. Founding member Steve Smith was living there and he put a band together including Caitlin and recorded the first single The Sun Also Rises.
After returning to Australia at the start of 2018 a new band was assembled and Caitlin came back shortly afterwards. Kim Yang who is also originally from Taiwan joined the band.  We went through a couple of drummers and bass players until we found Aidan and Dean. Jonah on organ/keys fit right in from the beginning.

Muddy Wolfe is;

Steve Smith - guitar & vocals
Kim Yang - guitar & vocals
Caitlin Magee - vocals
Jonah Myers - keys/organ
Dean James - bass
Aidan Bairstow - drums

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

We stole it from Joe Bonamassa actually. He did a series of tribute concerts to Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf and combined their names for the name of the band that he put together for those shows.

At the time that we thought of it, there were a couple of other bands floating around on the interweb with the same name so we added the ‘e’ to the end of ours to make it slightly different. We’re not a traditional-sounding blues band, but those influences are still there.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We’re based in Canberra, Australia. The original music scene is very healthy but not that easy to get gigs because there is so much talent here. There are some upcoming record labels like Warm Water and 2410 records that are helping upcoming bands to get things started. I recommend Moaning Lisa, they’re become very popular all over Australia.

4. How would you describe your style?

We’re indie blues but we have a diverse collection of songs ranging from traditional blues to country and indie folk to jazz. The vocal harmonies blend to produce a big warm sound. Guitar and organ solos abound.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We’ve just released our debut E.P. It has some more traditional sounding blues on there but some folky/country too. Organ and bluesy guitar is a big part of our sound as well as lots of vocal harmonies.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We have plans to do a follow up album. We’re in talks with 2410 Records about making that happen.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Would love to do some mini tours to Sydney and Melbourne to promote the E.P.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

There’s the album and possibly one or two music videos. We really hope to play at some festivals too.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Our website is www.muddywolfe.com where you can buy our E.P. on CD or as a digital download. The E.P. Muddy Wolfe Vol. 1 is available to stream everywhere too.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

That they hear something unique but familiar at the same time. We hope the diversity of the band is reflected in our music.
