Back in March of this year, Suffocation would open for Death To All a tribute band of the death metal act known as Death. But at this show they would take around 40 minutes to set up their gear, being a minor disappointment. But after rearranging things, the band performed quite nicely. Seven months later, Suffocation would be back in Los Angeles, California down in the warehouse district at a warehouse venue called 1720. This show would be close to selling out, and would have Suffocation do justice to that previous performance.
But before Suffocation would commence the stage, opening the night would be Skeletal Remains, whom are California locals out of Whitter, be quite happy to be back home, that all in attendance would welcome them with arms wide open. Their style would be death metal, and upon entering the venue the merch selection they had was quite impressive. Fans beforehand were lined up outside the venue, awaiting to get inside after doors opened at 6PM. But close to 8PM is when the band would play, performing for a good 30 minutes or so. The crowd was pleased, getting interactive at times, in the mosh pits, headbanging, and just enjoying the more mellow affects of their style of death metal. The band themselves did a fair job of performing, the music was embracing, fun, and overall just joyous to hear really.

Following them would be co-headliners Suffocation, who got on stage and pretty much took over the whole thing. Literally the crowd was non-stop energetic, lots of crowd surfers, stage divers, mosh pit was nuts, not only exploding in the center of the venue but causing other spots to creep on in and open up as well. Their performance was great in comparison to their last appearance this past spring. The music was fierce, fun, and entertaining throughout. It was as if it would never end really, that’s how much fun everyone there was having. In fact, it was so overwhelmingly thrilling that I’d say Suffocation outdid themselves so much so, that they were better than the headliners of the night Incantation.
SUFFOCATION PHOTOS:
Headliners Incantation is a death metal band that got started way back in 1989, being around for so long, you would think their performance would be stunning. Surprisingly enough, they did do a fine job, except it felt as if the crowd was into them, but the energy was sucked out of the room. Mosh pit action was left emptied, whereas the crowd themselves was entertained and enjoying themselves but it just felt that the band could have done slightly better. The energy was there but it was not enough, the previous acts took the show pretty much. Incantation is by means a fine band, and decent death metal one at that, except they just needed more angst to boost themselves up, getting that momentum just a little heavier, that perhaps the crowd’s energy would have been brought on more in the end.
