Dark pop rock band SUMMER AFFECTIVE DISORDER got together to discuss with us, their latest releases in term's of a recent single, with another summer single out soon enough. Plus an expected EP out this year as well! Some show plans are in the works, more music, and much else in-store!
1. Please tell us about the history of you as an artist and why get into music.
Summer Affective Disorder (SAD) started as a band in early 2024 as the product of new beginnings from a few disbanded bands that decided to get together and start up something new. With no real direction we knew we wanted to reflect our current moods and play for the love of music.
2. What’s the origin of the name?
After chatting about band names for a bit with no luck we got to talking about summer. Our name came about out of the shear hatred we share for the hot summers here in Austin Texas. We love Austin but damn it gets hot here!
3. Where are you based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local acts you could recommend?
We are out of Austin Texas "Music Capitol of the World" There's a lot of mixed emotions of our music scene (probably not too different from other city's scenes) but probably the coolest thing about our scene is how tight knit and supportive the musicians are here. Austin also has an abundance of talented and diverse musicians here.
4. How would you describe your style?
As we've been finding our path in music we'd like to think of ourselves as kinda a dark pop rock band.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
Our last single release is a track titled "I Can't Help You" and it’s streaming on all platforms. You can expect a moody, sparkly tune that rocks with lyrics of frustration and letting go.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We will be releasing a new single titled "Just A Ghost" late this July of 2025 then followed up with a five song self titled EP to be released in September.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
SAD is currently playing the Austin music scene and we like to surprise announce shows. We also enjoy the non traditional DIY type of shows that Austin is know for like house shows and your local convenience store.
8. What plans do you have for the future as far as music?
Our plans for future is that we really don't have plans but to play shows and release songs with all our hearts and do what we love most....... if we become rock stars than cool.
9. Where can we listen to your music and where can we buy your stuff?
Our music can be found streaming on all platforms and our merchandise can be found at our shows or DM us from our IG page @Summer_Affective_Disorder and we can ship to ya.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
We hope that when you hear us for the first time your brought to magical place deep inside you and remember that we love your support.
