Kingsfoil Discusses New EP, Single, Festival Appearances and More!

Rockers KINGSFOIL formed a few years back, releasing their debut single, with another single and EP on the way! The band plans to release said EP, with shows lined up as well as some festival appearances too. The band discusses all of this and more below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Kingsfoil was formed in 2019 off the back of lead singer Tim Somerfield’s self-titled solo EP launch gig. After a short delay due to covid and a small lineup change 2022-3 saw the band support the likes of Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy), Nick Olivieri (QOTSA, KYUSS) and Gnome, whilst they got into the studio to begin recording their upcoming EP. With 2 singles release earlier in 2024, the full debut EP is due out in November with a diverse set of 4 tracks showcasing the band’s versatility, energy and powerful, anthemic classic and alternative rock roots.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The original 4 members are all avid Tolkien fans, and led by Tim Somerfield they settled on Kingsfoil. Kingsfoil is an ordinary plant in the biome of Middle Earth, which when used by the King of Men has powerful healing properties. It is also known by another name, Athelas, with Kingsfoil it’s common name. We liked it because in the lore of the story Kingsfoil is thought of as a common weed, which resonated with the idea that as a band we may look ordinary but behind it is an unexpected quality, powerful and healing.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We’re all in the Bournemouth area, home to recent big hitters like South of Salem, Thuum and Skinny Knowledge. It’s become a regular stop on national tours here which is really boosting the profile of many of our extremely talented grassroots bands. It’s a town rather than a city so it takes a really loyal fan base to sustain our professional venues, but with a thriving student and tourist population throughout the year it helps to reach new audiences at The Anvil, Bear’s Bar and Four Horsemen, the three small venues, alongside The Lighthouse, the BIC and the O2 for larger shows.

4. How would you describe your style?

Alternative rock grooves laced with a classic rock anthemic flavors.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

Our debut single Warriors is a classic rock anthem through and through, whereas Physical leans more on the groovey side. Throughout our set are influences from the likes of Rival Sons, Incubus, Thin Lizzy and Dio, whilst maintaining a mainstream accessible alt rock foundation. Our shows are packed full of energy and we keep it fun, with a focus on good times, catchy hooks and glacial grooves.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Upcoming single alongside our full EP release will be Whips & Chains, a funky hip grinder of a track, with the final EP track Find Your Way getting it’s own video and release in the New Year channeling more of a progressive metal energy whilst still maintaining a catchy chorus hook throughout to soothe the neck ache from all the head bobbing.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We are a show swap in November with Foreign Voices from Plymouth, performing at Cellar Bar in Boscombe, a great independent local music venue, before returning to Plymouth with them to play Underground. Then in December we hit The Railway Inn in Winchester, before a hometown show at Four Horsemen to cap the year off in style.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

With the EP release in November and the final single due for release early in 2025 (Find Your Way), we will be hitting Chelmsford and London in the first quarter of the year in 2025. We’ve got some festival appearances in the works for the summer with a view to getting some more new music into circulation late 2025.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Head over to Kingsfoil.co.uk to grab a listen to any of our released tracks, subscribe to our YouTube for some live videos and witness the fitness of our music videos which we’ve had a lot of fun making. Our tee shirts and hoodies are available on there too. Join the Kingsfoil crew sporting a Warriors tee and you can be a Warrior just like us.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

That there’s more where that came from so like, follow and subscribe to avoid missing out on what’s coming next!
