The Abstraction Talks of New Single, EP Release and the Future Ahead!

Melodic metalcore group THE ABSTRACTION have two single's with a lot more in-store in the coming year! No shows or tours are yet booked but perhaps soon! The band talks about the future for themselves, music, and much else below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The Abstraction is a solo project with Will Martin writing, composing and recording all instrumental elements and some vocals. The main vocals are featuring SIME from Italian band SEVENSENT. All mixing and mastering has been done by Tom Gittins of Monochrome Productions. Will Martin was previously in post-hardcore band Rise Of Athena, who had singles such as Words Of A Coward, Wolves, Godforsaken Home and Mannequin before moving on to release their album ‘Tundra’ back in 2014. Rise If Athena had some great success, and went on to support bands such at Defeater and Napoleon before splitting in early 2015.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The name ‘The Abstraction’ came from the definition of the word ‘abstraction’ meaning ‘the quality of dealing with ideas rather than events’. This formed the themes of the music I produce, being more open to the ideas, thoughts and feelings everyone experiences throughout life, rather than focused on specific events.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

The Abstraction is based in Rotherham, UK that has a struggling music scene, being kept alive by an independent venue known as The Bridge Inn/The Hive, who host touring bands, house them, pay them and keep all shows free entry for attendees. My recommended local bands would be Bodach, a doomy 2 piece wall of sound, Loyds Trip, with a more old school rock vibe, and Orbital Alignment, which is brutal death metal, all hailing from the South Yorkshire area.

4. How would you describe your style?

The Abstraction would fit into the/melodic metalcore/progressive metal genres, although it most certainly has some post hardcore and rock influences, typical of Will’s signature style found in his previous band, Rise Of Athena.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

The Abstraction released their debut single ‘Phoenix’ on 02/12/23, which was a testament of what’s to come. The Abstraction promise huge chorus’, heavy breakdowns, technical riffs, emotive themed lyrics, unconventional time signatures and a fluent contrast between beautifully soft and brutally heavy moments

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

The Abstraction have their next single ‘Son’ being released on all digital all platforms on 22/01/24, with another, not yet announced single to follow shortly after.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

The Abstraction currently have no shows booked, being a solo, internet based artist, but will be looking to do a release show for their EP ‘Project I’ once the release date of the full ep is announced.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

The future for The Abstraction is to release their debut EP ‘Project I’, cementing their success in the local metal music scene, and will look to move on to a further EP or potentially an album following the success of Project I.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Phoenix is available on all digital streaming platforms and the YouTube, with ‘Son’ released 22/01/24, to also be released across all available and popular streaming platforms.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

First time listeners of The Abstraction can expect a blend of old and new metalcore sounds, emotive themes people genuinely connect with and huge, popular chorus’ that you can sing along to.

Bio

The Abstraction is a solo melodic metalcore project by Will Martin (ex-Rise Of Athena) based in Rotherham, UK, featuring vocals from SIME of SEVENSENT. The project has been underway since summer 2023, with Will writing, composing and recording all instruments, with SIME adding his personal touch on each feature.

The debut single ‘Phoenix’ was released on 02/12/2023, immediately gaining traction and worldwide airplay.

The next single ‘Son’, will be available on all platforms on 22/01/2024, with another single rumored to follow very shortly.

The released will all form part of the EP ‘Project I’ (release date tba), which is aimed to have a diverse range of genres and sounds, as well as themed around the peaks, troughs, trials and tribulations we all go through in life. This is shown in ‘Phoenix’ themed around breaking the shackles of anxiety and self doubt and rising up, and ‘Son’ around the aspirations of fatherhood.

All tracks are mixed and mastered by Tom Gittins of Monochrome Productions, who Will has worked closely with in prior projects, such as his time in Rise Of Athena, where Will supported bands such as Defeater, Napoleon, Wars, and many more.
