Bruce Dickinson, known best for his role in Iron Maiden, joining the band back in the early 80’s, debuting on the 1982 album “The Number of the Beast”. He would leave Iron Maiden in 1993 to go solo, to only rejoin the band in 1999. Since going solo sometime ago though, he has released seven full-length albums including his most recent being “The Mandrake Project”, in which he did two warm up shows at the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, California, and his other main solo headliner down in Orange County’s Santa Ana at The Observatory!
Happening on a Monday night in mid-April, the 15th, fans gathered outside the venue of the sold out show, most being older, with a majority of them wearing Iron Maiden and Bruce Dickinson attire. Doors opened at 7PM, letting everyone inside, with the openers being Night Demon performing at 8PM for thirty minutes thereafter. Their performance featuring a trio of musicians founding very heavy through and through, their choice of genre being heavy metal with a fierce aggression. During their performance, the band would get the crowd hyped, with them featuring a Grim Reaper upon the stage in full costume, during one of their songs, with a lot of their other working’s being heavy duty, raw, and truly entertaining. The audience was into them, but surely wanted to see Bruce Dickinson soon afterwards.

With that being said, Bruce Dickinson or as he would say during this performance The Mandrake Project, as what this band would be this evening, is what was done. The band hitting the stage roughly around 9PM, and concluding close to 11PM. During the entirety of their set, being nothing but Bruce’s working’s, no Iron Maiden material whatsoever sung. But the songs that were performed included such as “Tears of the Dragon”, “Rain on the Graves”, “The Alchemist”, “Darkside of Aquarius”, “Navigate the Seas of the Sun”, and “The Tower”, to name off a few. The band performing with Bruce was very well put together, each musician being themselves, with a creative angst. The crowd enjoyed the two guitarists, they dueling it out at times, with the bassist being spunky in their own way, drummer having a solo, down to the keyboardist doing keyboards and key-tar as well, getting everyone’s approval.

Bruce Dickinson though, him being in his mid-60’s is still going strong for an elder. He can sing, dance, and make the crowd excited with just his presents really. His performance being funny and just fun to hear and bear witness too really. His solo works done in a live setting, really kept the energy of the room enlightened. He has a way with words with his singing tactics, making his vocal range, last, long into the night, that the music portion made it come full circle, that it was just downright fun.
All in all though, Bruce Dickinson’s solo offering’s was worth checking out, having seen him first hand, as opposed to his “day job band” Iron Maiden; Bruce does well solo. He draws in a crowd no matter whom he be fronting, himself or Iron Maiden, both see him at his best.
