November 2019

Metal go getters ASPHERIUM have several albums currently out, having started back in 2007. Since then the band has played shows with more coming, released music, with no plans on stopping! Their heaviness and intensity of their progressive forces, will keep them pushing through this metal music scene for many years to come. Find out how else they will continue their metal music activities below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band was started in 2007 by me (Marius) on guitar and vocals and Torgeir on bass and backing vocals. We quickly found a drummer in Bjørn Tore, who we had played some cover songs with earlier. We jammed together, and it immediately felt just right. The next few years included recording a demo, finding a second guitar player in Morten, starting to play live shows in Norway, and a few small runs in Belgium. Our debut album The Veil of Serenity was released in 2011 and received great reviews. There were lots of live shows including a European tour with Blood Red Throne. The second album The Fall of Therenia was released in 2014 and was even better received than the first album. We played a lot of shows, including some very cool festival gigs, and we toured with Decapitated. And in 2019 we finally released our third album The Embers of Eternity. It has not been out very long, but so far it has been very well received! It is in my opinion the best album we’ve made yet.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

I was playing around with different words, trying to come up with a band name that wasn’t already taken. I think I was playing around with words like sphere and atmosphere, and somewhere a long the line it turned into Aspherium. I made a logo and had it as a background on my PC get used to the name, and it felt right. And no one else had taken it, since I made it up. So, the name itself doesn’t really mean anything, but to me it symbolizes the feeling our music gives me.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are from Norway. And in the beginning, we were based in Moss and to a lesser degree Oslo. Now we are spread across Moss, Oslo and Drammen… In Moss where I live, there is a very cool music scene, but there’s not a big metal scene. There are some very cool metal bands not too far away, though. Like Sphere, Maahlas, Befouled, Vingulmork, Kampfar, Mork and Mecalimb to name a few.

4. How would you describe your style?

We are rooted in a death and thrash metal style, but we also have groove and modern metal influences, and a lot of progressive, mellow and melodic parts. We have been called progressive death metal, which I think fits pretty well. We have a lot of long songs that often don’t have a regular verse, chorus, verse, chorus structure. We like building songs in different ways that can be unexpected and interesting. We also like putting a lot of details in the music, so you will often find something new even after hearing songs many times.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have released three full length albums, and they are all concept albums. We make music that take you on a journey, like scenes in a movie or chapters in a book. You will get brutal parts and melodic and mellow parts. We work hard on arranging the songs, so they flow very well, and there is a lot of thought put into everything, including how the album flows from song to song to make the whole album feel like everything belongs together.

Our debut album The Veil of Serenity was about humanity closing their eyes while the world was burning down around them. The Fall of Therenia, our second album had a science fiction concept about a peaceful civilization being invaded by another species for unknown reasons. The story deals with unraveling the mystery about what happened, and how to save their planet. If you strip away the sci fi parts, there is quite a lot that deals with stuff that’s going on in our world as well. The latest album The Embers of Eternity is about planet earth in the distant future and the people there trying to figure out how we in our time now could let the earth be destroyed. Now, these concepts may sound negative, but a big part of our music is that there is always hope. There is a way to make things better, even when everything may seem dark. And you can expect great, and very varied metal music that is brutal, heavy, epic and beautiful.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We always have new music in various forms of completion. We have endless amounts off riffs that we will sort through and find out what we want to use for the next album. There are a couple songs that never got done during the writing for the last album, so maybe some of those will end up on the next album. One thing is for sure, we don’t want there to be as long of a wait between this album this time, so we are already thinking about the next one.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We did a run of shows right after the new album came out, right now Bjørn Tore is recovering from hand surgery, so we will return to the stage in 2020, and the plan is to play a lot of shows!

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We will continue to write music and release albums, play shows and have a lot of fun! That’s the main thing we must focus on. If it’s not fun, there’s no point in doing it. The way the industry is for small bands now, we have to do it for the love of playing music! And there is no feeling quite like being on stage, having a great show with a great crowd, or the great feeling you get while writing and recording music and you get to hear how your ideas come together to make something great! We will also try to focus on making more videos for YouTube. We have made a few music videos ourselves that turned out pretty good, and we’d like to do more of that, and other types of videos. Yet another creative thing to enjoy!

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We would appreciate it a lot if you could listen to and follow us on Spotify! https://open.spotify.com/artist/1f9vK1LjJ4YPpThBEiiI25?si=rcVLt8qjQLWN1-dciI2SYQ.

You can find us on any digital platform, though. Bandcamp is great if you want to buy the music digitally. For physical releases we have CD, vinyl, tape and t-shirts at https://aspherium.bigcartel.com/ and we are trying out this Spreadshirt store where there is a much bigger selection of t-shirts and hoodies than we can do ourselves. https://shop.spreadshirt.com/aspherium/all.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

The riffs! The almighty riffs! Thank you! Marius - Aspherium

EMILY DACCARETT is a designer, whose craft takes from designing various things, to recording music, in which she has released her first EP available now! She goes into details about her creativity and how far it can and will take her mind, body, and soul!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

I’m a fashion designer and I have always used music and film as my inspiration. I came to LA to start my women's wear brand and debuted my first collection during LA fashion week. At this time, I produced a fashion film in collaboration with Tiger House films to kick start the fashion show, and worked with film music composer S. Peace Nistades on an original song for my short film. I fell in love with writing music and it became a staple of my fashion shows to create original music. After some time I felt a need to blend the music I created with my fashion brand that exceeded just the runway shows. I finally stopped telling myself that I had to stay in one lane and really myself the opportunity to pursue this dream I had try to bury. I decided the best way to do this was to learn how to produce music on my own in order to create my songs the same way I design my collections. I was set on finding my sound and that piece of me that I was missing. After working on my demos, I went back to Peace and we worked on my EP Cannibal.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The EP's title is not the band's name. For each song I wanted to illustrate an anime inspired mascot. Cannibal girl was the first one I drew and after spending so much time on her, it felt so right to name the EP Cannibal. Cannibal is also the title of the second song in my EP, which is about how the doubts and fears we feel can turn us into a cannibal and tear us apart.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

I’m based out LA. I love it here; it’s filled with so many talented people. Coming here I have had the chance to collaborate with an array of different artists. It’s a great place to find up and coming bands. I love going to The Mint, Hotel Café, The Study to hear new bands. I’ve gone to see Illicit for some great rock as well as Foolish Deep. Every week there are so many acts to choose from, all you have to do is pick a genre and call an uber.

4. How would you describe your style?

My style is a blend of 80's synth pop with a cinematic sound. Think of Blondie and David Lynch having a baby in 2020 and that's the direction my music takes.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

I have done some retro French pop songs in the style of Carla Bruni and Vanessa Paradis. I love the 70’s and greatly romanticize everything out of that era. It felt like me at the time and you can still hear ties to that style with my new music. The new songs that I’m about to release have a more modern direction and I wanted to give it the energy and excitement you feel from watching runway show.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

I have my first ever EP out now! I’m so excited to finally share what I’ve been working on this past year.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

I’m planning on doing some small shows in LA to promote the EP and have already started working on my next fashion show/live show scheduled for March 2020.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

I'm starting a new chapter that includes my fashion, strong visual imagery along with being a musical artist. I love the idea of Los Angeles in the late 60's with so many artists coming together for fun and creating. I'm trying to recreate that feeling today by having it be more than just music but also an experience. By hosting fashion and live music events, I hope to tap into that Sharon Tate and Mama Cass vibe. I want it to feel intimate not just another gig to see.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

On November 22nd my EP will be streaming on all major platforms. You can keep up to date by going to www.emilydaccarettmusic.com, where I’ll post the latest music and upcoming events. I also have an online store on that site and merch with my anime inspired mascots will be available soon. I have some cool exclusive Ep stuff as well. On www.emilydaccarett.com you can find my fashion brand, which also includes a line of unisex accessories.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

I want them to feel happy and for that moment be taken to some lost part of their imagination.

Alternative rock act SOLVE THE NODUS combine the likes of alt rock, rap, and metal to create such meaning, that others would understand the happening's within living in our world we call home. Discover what else the band had to say about their music and plans ahead.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Solve The Nodus started as the Founder Daniel Reid being a solo artist. Daniel went through a trauma which triggered his mental health. He saw a guitar in a shop window and felt compelled to buy it, he then learnt a couple of covers to vent and it inspired him to song write. Daniel then recorded two tracks very simply as his musical talent was limited. He then took the songs to Ollie Robinson of Armistice records who was studying at the abbey road institute at the time and they worked together to create the vision and sound Daniel wanted them to be. When they were completed he reached out via Facebook to find and members and he met drummer Luke Holmes who liked the sound. Luke then brought Jordan Francis (bass) and Ben Upton (guitar) to a practice session and we all clicked straight away. Daniel was working on his third single which was a co write called "if i could" so we all went to the abbey road institute together to create the track! Since then we have written lots together and produced tracks from Bens home studio! With the next track coming December called "Demons".

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Music for Daniel was his therapy and his outlet. Nodus means an intricate problem so Daniel opted for solve the Nodus as it represents exactly what music is for him. Solving his mental problems.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

The Band come From Portsmouth, Fareham and Waterlooville. The music scene is very much alive down here and original music is well receipted! We gig regularly both local and nationally! There are countless bands we could name but we’d like to big up a couple that have a great moral compass and sound, Not So Righteous, Blood Buzzards, The Dusty Trims to name a few or I would fill pages with recommendations!

4. How would you describe your style?

I’d like to think we are very versatile and tailor our sound to match the line ups and venues. When we headline our style is energy, passion and raw emotion. Genre wise we are a hybrid of Alt Rock, Hard Rock and Metal. Others have described us as a perfectly balanced blend of Enter Shakiri and Limp Biskit.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have released three singles so far By My Side, I Just Can’t Be Tied and If I Could and a music video for our first version of the next release Demons. You can expect a rock ballad, a skater style rock song and a hard rock style with metal elements from the current releases!

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We are dropping another single next month (December) titled Demons and we plan to drop three Eps 2020 all slightly different styles and emotions to give something for everyone! Then we plan to drop an album of our own pure passion!

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We currently play a lot of ticketed and free entry shows all over the place! We have been very fortunate with gigs! You can catch us in Portsmouth, Southampton, Alton, Manchester, Brighton just to name a few areas! We are planning a little Europe tour focused on Amsterdam next year and we are currently debating a South Africa tour as a couple of venues have shown interest.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Our plans are to go all the way, play music everyday around the world while promoting mental health therapy and helping out charities. While making some passionate music of course!

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can find all of our music on all good streaming/music platforms and YouTube! You can buy our limited edition merch at gigs and you can find links to our merch on our website or Facebook!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We’d like them to remember how we made them feel, that we connected and left an imprint! Thank you so much for having us!

Falling In Reverse have shared another new song and video — this time in the form of the video for "Popular Monster."

"'Popular Monster' is the voice inside my head, hoping you will listen," says frontman Ronnie Radke. "It's the story of a hero that's been falsely accused and torn down by society. It shows what happens when you get pushed too far. You become exactly what they say you are, exactly what they want you to be — a monster."

Check out the track and accompanying video HERE.

All over the place band INSOLACE is one that uses such energy, angry, personal methods and emotions that go beyond, it is no wonder they are here today. With this input out there, their debut track titled "Calm" is out and doing rather well. Another single called "Jaded", is expected soon with even more material on the way as well! Find out what else was said in the discussion below!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

"Insolace" was born out of guitarist Conor Hyde's previous band, "Oceans". No time was wasted after "Oceans" ended, drastic changes were made and a new line up was born! This band is made up of Millie Cook - vocals, Conor Hyde and Regan Wharton - guitars, Sam Bryant - bass and Onyi Olisa - drums.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The name "Insolace" is essentially "In" and "Solace" just squashed together. The name reflects our lyrical content and is a fitting name that relates to what we're about! We've found our solace through our own personal struggles, and we hope our music can help our audience in achieving their own solace too.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We're based out of London and the scene here is vast to say the least! The bar for talent has been set pretty high in London and we've been lucky enough to share the stage with some amazing bands. If we were to name some promising bands out of our scene: "Sun Arcana", "Blue Eyed Giants", "Bellevue Days", "Chapter and Verse".

4. How would you describe your style?

Energized, hooky, melodic, angry, personal, authentic and unique with plenty of emotional depth!

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We dropped our debut release in September titled, "Calm" and the song actually did really well! It's made us hyped for our next release on November 26th which would be for our second single called "Jaded".

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We're currently in the process of releasing some singles that we recorded at Middle Farm Studios in Devon back in June, so there's definitely content that's on it's way to you! After we release these singles we'll be keen to get back in the studio again so I should hope there will be regular releases from us for the foreseeable future!

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We have a tour idea planned for the beginning of next year but I can't divulge too much about that at this moment in time... This month we have a double single launch planned to mark our next release. We'll be playing The Grace in London on November 26th, then on November 27th we'll be playing The Western in Brighton.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We feel the future is looking bright for us as we're in high spirits after the successful release of our debut single, "Calm". We plan to drop the odd single here and there within the near future as well as ambitious plans for a national tour!

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We're available across all streaming services and we even have a fresh music video that we made our selves for our single, "Calm", which is available to view on Facebook and YouTube!

You can stream or watch "Calm" at the links below:

Spotify - https://spoti.fi/2lWbzwL
YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAVPQyiX3ZM

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Although we write our music for ourselves and the songs are personal to us, we'd still like our fans to take a personal experience or interpretation away from our music when hearing it. We'd love for our music to move someone in a way that is very personal to the individual, we're always keen to hear how our fans interpret our music.

British alternative indie rockers PLASTIC BARRICADES have been inspired and influenced by lots within this century. Drummer Paul Love goes into talks about the band's music creativity, future, and new album due out soon enough!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Plastic Barricades write guitar music and have since long before we met. Dan is a former resident of Estonia and current resident of London. I am a Liverpool national and have been on the run from a council tax bill since 2017. My current whereabouts are Paris.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Practical seabirds and Altaic crispbread with Arctic Bales Parsed

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

If you took it as an average we’d been based somewhere in the Channel (or the sleeve). There are currently no bands in Sealand. I’m a hermit in Paris. I’ve got a terrible phobia of rolled r’s. It’s not helpful here. In London my favorite local bands are The Vone, The Phil Meadows Project, Kokoroko, Leon Rosten Odessey and Phase Theory

4. How would you describe your style?

Brit Pop with a dash of Mars Volta

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

Dan released an EP and an Album and then I joined. We’ve just released our first new single called One for the Road and the response has been great. We’ve recorded this whole new album in a 2x3m shed. We wanted to explore what we could do in one space. It’s a magical little place surrounded by foxes and squirrels, snails and hedgehogs.’

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

The new album is currently Self Theories and is not currently out. The next single will be released in Feb and we’re filming the vid soon.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Not right now. It’s just the two of us. We can make it if we try, just the two of us. Him and I, but it will need some planning.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Kick ass and chew bubble gum. We still have gum. I want to write some killer songs that surprise us. I want more friends who thing guitar is cool: enough to sell out Red Rocks.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We’re on all the online services. You can go to our website for merch and discs!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

The way they felt. If that’s there you know it’s a good song. That’s why I’m here, help make songs that move hearts and shake booties.

Jurekk is an all new project with Jurekk and Brendon Wall, it revolving around the styling's of everything! The pair go into discussion and discuss the matters of this new music project, what it holds and has in-store for the upcoming future!

1. So how many projects/bands does this make it for you as an artist?

Jurekk: Active? 2. But I've been in four bands (Edge of Attack, Kobra and the Lotus, Celestial Ruin, and Jurekk). But I've also had the pleasure of working on many projects in the studio as a producer or mix engineer as well.

Brendon: I've been in one band it was mostly me and some friends just jamming out to bands we liked. This is the first project I've done where it's been released

2. Why did those other projects fail and succeed?

Jurekk: With Kobra I had to leave due to medical reasons. The timing was unfortunate as we were about to due a summer long tour with Kiss and Def Leppard but sometimes that's how things work out. With Celestial Ruin I just had to come home. I was going through some things in my personal life that were just interfering with my ability to maintain a normal life so I had to make the decision to come home. Which wasn't easy. I wouldn't say any of them were a failure. I am grateful that I had the chance to work with all those amazing people.

3. What can be said about this all new and current project?

Jurekk: It's definitely out of the norm if you're used to my work that's for sure! We aren't really conforming to one genre of music. On the first EP we had multiple genres of rock/metal music in 5 songs. While the last single "Rage" is a pure 7 string Heavy-fest with plenty of shred to go around.

Brendon: Its heavy musically, pretty dark lyrically and some of the best lyrics I've ever wrote and contributed with because they came from the heart. I've lived those stories I wrote in the lyrics, I've been through some dark times in my life.

4. With this project you have not one, but three EP's, discuss please!

Brendon: One day we me and Jurekk were hanging out. He said he always wanted to do a solo project. He asked me if I wanted to collaborate with him on it lyrically I said ya that could be fun and here we are.

Jurekk: Ya that's basically the short sweet story haha. Once we had Completed the first one I knew there was no way we had to stop there. There was so many more avenues of music that I wanted to explore.

5. When can expect EP 2 to be out in the open?

Jurekk: You know it's an odd thing. Most bands complete their full EP or album and then release the first single! I on the other hand kind of just go on the seat of my pants. As it sits as we're doing this interview all that is left to be done is vocals for one song and a bit of mixing. Then I will release it. I don't like following the "release a single then make them wait months for the full thing" model. Get it done, get it out.

6. Does this trio of EP releases, have a concept to them?

Brendon: The first EP doesn't have a concept it's mostly about things in life i've experienced. Take "This isn't Me" for an example. The lyrics "This happiness just seems so far. While Sinking in a reservoir. I cannot breathe, I cannot see. I am praying, screaming help me". I was going through some depression/anxiety issues at the time. I thought happiness just seemed so far. "Sinking in this reservoir" was me sinking deeper into my depression while "I cannot breathe, I cannot see...." was all about my anxiety"

Jurekk: The second and third one do have a concept to them. The first EP basically tells a short story of my life and how it spiralled into chaos and addiction. Which was a big topic on the first EP as well. It starts with "Betrayal" then to "Fear" onward to "Rage" and finally "Chaos" which are the titles of the songs off the first EP in order. I wanted them all to have one word titles to really get the message across as clear as possible. As for the second EP It will tell the story of our struggle to find order in our lives.

7. How about titles for them, what are they and how do they revolve around the concept for them?

Jurekk: The first EP was just simply titled "Jurekk James". As previously mentioned it doesn't tie into the concept. "Chaos" is the second EP and as mentioned before tells the tale of how my life spiralled into utter chaos. The second chapter in the concept is "Order" and is about our struggle to find order in our lives. This one will probably be the biggest departure for me musically I have ever done. The riffs, the drums, everything is completely inspired from the 80's. There's elements of Def Leppard to Dokken in every song.

8. What was the production process like on the first EP? Has it changed going into the second and third ones?

Brendon: the production process was  really fast, a lot of fun but Jurekk is really good at what he does. It was a blast working with him in and out of the studio.

Jurekk: The first EP was a big change for me compared to other projects I had worked on for a few reasons. One being that the music, especially songs like "Don't Belong", was unfamiliar to me. Two I was working with more people and giving them a lot of creative input. I'm more used to being the producer, not being produced. Brendon would be really good at throwing new vocal melody ideas at me or getting me to try new vocal tones I would have otherwise have not thought to use. Shaun (My cousin who taught me how to play guitar) also was there a lot of the time when I was recording guitar solos and would come up with cool licks and ideas. As for this second and this EP the formula hasn't changed much. What has changed is the type of music being made.

9. Where do you see this project come the next year?

Brendon: Hopefully we keep working on stuff together, I have a lot of ideas floating up in my head lyrically and musically the creative juices don’t stop.

10. Would you like to add on or say anything more?

Jurekk: Keep listening and also keep your ears to the ground for what else we have in store! There may be something in the works we haven't announced yet!

Gerry Cea born long ago, did his share of moving but way later down the line, he would go on to enter a recording studio, writing and then recording material with producer Rudy Perez and Chris Price making an album called "Something New".  The style would be a mix if pop/rock think of all the assortment of acts around in year's past and present, that is how Gerry sounds much like really upon this release. A lot of the tracks off this album, it consisting of 12 total, would reach out to many such as "With You", "One Day At The Time", "Mine", and "The One", are the very few that tend to stick out the most upon this album of his. These lump sum of tracks, are catchy and shall we say highly entertaining throughout their play time. Whereas the remaining tracks come along the same aspects for the most part. One of which being an all acoustic tune, that is very much easy going for that easy listening type of experience. All the rest fall within sounding calm and relaxing if not downright catchy, cannot express that enough really. For Gerry as an artist though, he has talent and it shows through within this album and it's track listing. His voice is emotional and powering in tone and feeling throughout each and every one of these tracks off this little old album he like's to call "Something New".

Modern Day Escape who have been in a hiatus as of 2014, have been hinting at a revival with little post's upon the band's social media pages on and off as of fall 2019. With the revival slowly starting up, an EP release has been announced as well, with a bonus of releasing a teaser of an all new track off said EP titled "Worst Kind of Curse", off the EP "Transmutation" expected to be out soon! Melodic hardcore trio SECOND WIND commencing currently with a release expected next spring! For now, they have released a pair of singles with a whole lot else in-store! The band plans on doing what they do best, creating music, sharing messages to connect with others just as they connect with their music! Find out more about the band from the conversation below!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Second Wind got started in my mind (Brad) around 2016. I have loved melodic hardcore bands for years, and knew that at some point I wanted a creative outlet for similar efforts. I wanted to create the opportunity for myself and like-minded friends to go full throttle with a musical genre, lyrical approach, and overall message that we deeply resonated with. This style of music is a little simpler than other bands I’ve played in recently, but it creates room for passionate expression and vibrant live shows.

I was in another serious project for five years preceding the launch of Second Wind, which took up most of my musical energy and focus, but Second Wind’s time has come. The three of us are grateful to be making music together that we care about on so many levels!

Dane and I have been friends since we were introduced back in 2012, when we were involved in the same band at the time. That project disbanded and each member went off to do their own thing, but we remained in touch, though sporadically at the time. Dane left Illinois to pursue a work opportunity in Colorado for a number of years. I was continuing musical efforts here in Illinois, as well as working on other areas of life.

Fast forward a few years, and Dane returned from Colorado. He and I met up shortly after his return, and he was enthusiastic about the style of music I wanted to create. I shared the riffs being worked on, and he was eager to hear more right away. Just a few months later we officially launched the band and released our first single, Gratitude.

We got connected with Jordan through social media, and he immediately proved to be a great fit for our band - in every imaginable way. He has a background in multiple instruments but has readily stepped into the bassist role - which we’re grateful for!

We’re close to wrapping up tracking for our EP, which we aim to release in spring 2020!

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The name Second Wind gradually surfaced as I was thinking about the position in life I recently found myself in. It’s easy to come across obstacles in life, especially ones that distract you from your biggest goals and make it feel impossible to keep moving forward. It’s during those times that you must look within and figure out what will keep you going.

Put another way, difficult times force you to find your second wind. It’s through this persistence and a commitment to never retreat that the band’s name was manifested. It’s easy to remember and simple to say, but carries a lot of weight, particularly on a personal level.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Dane, Jordan and I all live in suburbs of Chicago, IL.

The music scene across Chicago and the suburbs - particularly for metal and hardcore bands - is varied. There are many bands that make the burbs or the city their primary territory - and there is nothing wrong with that. However we have noticed a bit of a disconnect between the two territories - a gap we’re hoping to bridge alongside other bands. Overall, Chicagoans are very passionate about music. Many national touring acts that come through major venues such as House of Blues and The Forge regularly comment that Chicago “goes hard”, which - of course - we do! The city is vibrant with hundreds of regular metal and hardcore showgoers, and we’re grateful to live and work near one of the country’s largest metropolitan hubs.

There are some great bands to check out! Our friends in Astillian have been making music for a while now, and our pals in Motion Failure are also near and dear to us. Furthermore, Still World knows what’s up, and we’re excited to see where The Oblivion Archetype goes these next few years.

4. How would you describe your style?

We are a melodic hardcore band that prioritizes catchiness and melody. Some of our favorite artists are The Ghost Inside; Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!; Gideon; Counterparts; and Stick to Your Guns. Some fans have described us as a combination of As Hell Retreats, Misery Signals, and The Ghost Inside.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

Over the summer we released our first single, "Gratitude", and just a few weeks ago we released "Apathy", our second single.

Right now we’re working on our debut EP, "Indispensable", which we plan to launch sometime spring 2020. Be on the lookout for that!

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes! Our debut EP will have five songs, three of which will be brand new. We are also considering an acoustic version of one of the songs. You’ll have to watch for the EP pre-order to find out which one!

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We are currently seeking two full-time guitarists to round out the band. After that point, we plan to be playing live shows as soon as possible. Touring will be a wonderful opportunity when the time comes! We won’t rush it, but will take up the chance when we’re able to and it makes sense. Likely a few regional tours first, and expanding later into national.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Great question - God willing, many! Right now we are simply grateful to be perfecting five songs that we deeply care about, and getting to know each other better as bandmates. As time moves forward, one of our favorite things about being in a band is getting to share personal messages that connect with individuals.

Through these conversations and visceral experiences, we find our main reason for doing music. Getting up on a stage is wonderful, and playing your heart out even better, but it’s when the message of the song meets someone where they’re at that we’re most grateful for doing what we do.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We're on Spotify, and here’s our Bandcamp link. Most importantly, here’s our email signup page. We give our best goodies to our subscribers, as they are the lifeblood of our band! Our subscribers get free songs, among other bonuses, so this is the best way to go if you’re truly digging our tunes.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

That’s a wonderful question. We simply hope they enjoyed the instrumentals, and that a lyrical phrase or two stuck with them, and made them think! We are all about positivity and intentionality in our band. The personal lives we live are, to us, the most important reflection of the music we make, and vice versa. In other words, we want our passion in music to be fueled by what we’re doing in the real world. Dreams are great, but living out those dreams is even better!

Where to begin with a band such as Slayer.... An act whose time together has been almost four long decades, it's surprising even to the band themselves, how far they have come. As it would have them to go on countless tours, playing an array of shows, releasing twelve full-length studio albums including their last and possibly final album yet "Repentless" in 2015. Having this release have a few singles off it, including the title track, "You Against You", and "Pride In Prejudice". This album being so successful it would have the band record one of their performances in full, that would take place during the touring cycle for this album's release only two years after it's release. At the Los Angeles’ venue known as The Forum during the summer of 2017, when touring with support coming from Lamb Of God and Behemoth, Slayer would headline this tour of course, it being filmed of their set, consisting of many song favorites, including the "Repentless", single's along with many others  "Raining Blood," "South Of Heaven," "Repentless," "Angel Of Death" and more!

This touring run not only capturing the band’s stunning performance but footage that would include a brief interview segment, with other footage shot for a mini film, that would come to release just two years later in 2019. This film being called "Slayer: The Repentless Killogy" as it was a mash up of the single’s released off the "Repentless" album, with more footage taken with a handful of actor’s and actress’s ranging from  Jason Trost ("Beats of Rage," "Hatchet III") as Wyatt, Danny Trejo ("Machete," "From Dusk Til Dawn"), Richard Speight, Jr. ("Band of Brothers," "Supernatural"), Derek Mears ("Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."), Jessica Pimentel ("Orange Is The New Black"), Tyler Mane ("X-Men," "Halloween !!"), Bill Moseley ("The Devil’s Rejects," "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2"), Caroline Williams ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2," "Sharknado 4"), and Sean Whalen ("Twister," "The People Under The Stairs"). Many of which had also appeared in the original music video series of those said singles as well.

The mini concert film and film, would play together for one solid night of a sold out event, spanning across the world showing in 1,500 theaters, or world painted blood as Slayer would prefer it to be. The film would play at my showing of it, at Universal CityWalk in Studio City, California a small city within the Los Angeles County area. This sole show being a sold out one, as it were with fans packing the theater’s small space, witnessing it as a wholesome cycle of full metal goodness. The band was interviewed prior, then the mini film/music videos were shown, with the full band performance following suite. The whole entirety of it all lasting 2 hours and 20 minutes in length time!

This being probably the second concert to screen performance, being seen by the eyes of myself, as the other concert was seen of a Japanese pop idol group, their screening lasting a good 3 hours length time. But aside from that remark, Slayer’s mini movie, music video, and performance overall, was done rather well. The movie footage captured the horror aspect, with lots of blood, gory elements set into full effect, as the story unfolded itself. Showcasing this guy on the hunt and run for one person who had set this all up, just in the end to have him shot down perhaps? It’s a lot of blood with a lot of kills all crafted together in a manner that was gruesome yet funny at times with the kills counted off. If heaviness in term's of music and lots of blood and gore are to your liking, then this is one for you. Lots of that thrown into the mix, with some funny one off killing's, heavy yet intense music, just fun all around really.

At the end of the movie, it showed the band doing what Slayer does best, performing of course. As they would show a performance of "Angel Of Death", within the film, having the film end with the full on performance of the concert shown, recapturing that night way back when in 2017. The actual performance though was very extensive and entertaining. The songs brought the energy and angst that only a thrash act like Slayer could deliver. It being put that Slayer reigns blood.

Mixing things up is precisely how ROBBERS ON PAROLE had wanted to take the kind of music, that they wanted to create.... Hence forth, releasing two single's with video's accompanying them of course, with well more than enough more material for a full-length album but putting that as a different approach for now.... The band would go on to discuss further more about the music style that have picked upon and what the future has planned for them.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

A couple of us, the guitarist/keyboardist – Steve, and the bass player – Ivo, are long-time friends and have been in and out of different bands together for twelve years now, so that was a given whenever we decided to start this new thing that is now Robbers on Parole. Then we met our lovely vocalist Monica incidentally, through a mutual friend and she just blew us away with her voice so we immediately asked her to join the band. We also needed a drummer that can play whatever style we throw at him, from wild punk gallops to slow, pulsating trap beats and anything in the middle. We looked for some time for him, then we found Chris and he can do exactly that and much more. It was a while until we understood what each one of us wanted from the music, there was a bit of trial and error, until everybody found their footing with the others. And then one day we just got it, no big deal, it kind of clicked and we had a song that we had made together. And that became our first single 2 Far Gone.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Picking the name was a long and difficult process, for sure. We knew we wanted something that would speak to our dualistic nature – the romantic side that defines the mood of the music & the gritty side that always creeps in and kind of fills in the blanks with a sense of unease. So that’s why we picked something that invoked in us a sort of Bonnie & Clyde, True Romance vibe – both dreamy and dangerous.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We’re currently based in Sofia, Bulgaria, where we have a small but strong alternative/modern rock scene, full of bands and artists that like to experiment, just like us. For a newcomer to our scene, we’d always recommend Jeremy?, which is one of the best bands we have here, Innerglow, who are fresh and also like to meld pop-rock with electronica, just like us, and Hayes & Y, who are currently living in Manchester and are becoming more and more known abroad which is great – we’re always thrilled to see music from our part of the world being appreciated by a wider audience.

4. How would you describe your style?

Oh, that’s a tough one… If we have to be very specific, we’d say alternative electronic dark pop-rock and that’s quite a mouthful, for sure. For a more simple approach, let’s just call it electronic rock. Our influences are all over the place, really, ranging from grunge and alt-rock artists from the 90's like Pearl Jam and Garbage, to our all-time fave electronic band which is, of course, the Prodigy, to modern pop like, for example, The Weekend. There’s also a bit of new wave, gothic rock, drum n’ bass and punk rock thrown in the mix and even some modern metal influences that are always kind of slipping through. We like it diverse.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

To date we’ve released two singles with accompanying videos to them – 2 Far Gone and Feel Complete – and we have enough material for a full album, but we chose a different approach, at least for the moment. We’d like to think that what we do can be summed up as "dance music for loners" so that’s what you can expect from us in the near future – beats that make you want to move, but paired introspective lyrics & lots and lots of ambiance. We very much like the contradiction of something like that so we usually go for it full force.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Our next single is due sometime in February, with two more to follow soon after. We’re hoping to get an EP out sometime in the near future with all of our released songs so far, remixed and combined to tell one story. But besides that, there’s a lot more songs written and just waiting to be recorded and released. One in particular will be an almost entirely electronic track, sort of like a rave club thing, that you could go crazy to after 02:00 in the morning in some grungy neon bar and we’re particularly excited about that one.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

For the moment, we play the venues in our hometown and visit different cities in our country. We’re always looking around for an opportunity to play abroad and in 2020 that might actually happen. We’re very keen on visiting Greece, we’ve heard and seen great things from its audience, also Germany and in particular – Berlin, and, of course – London and the UK in general, since a great deal of our influences and favorite bands hail from there.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We plan to make it big, haha. Doesn’t every new hopeful band plan to do exactly that? We want to create and play music for the rest of our lives and we want to live off it, that would be a dream come true for all of us. And we plan to release lots and lots of different, wild, hybrid music, whatever happens, because that’s what we’re good at and that’s what we truly love.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can listen to us here on Spotify (insert link), here on YouTube (insert link), here on Deezer (insert link) and here… (insert anything else). When we start selling stuff you’ll be the first to know, we promise!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We hope that people will remember at least the choruses, haha… and maybe sing along to them next time they play our songs? No, but seriously, we believe most of all that they’ll remember that hard to pin down, melancholy feeling of wanting to be different, but not knowing how. We sing a lot about imperfection and being able to cope with that and being ok with yourself with the imperfect thing that you have and that you are, but still wanting better. Does that make sense? We hope it does, at least for the people that find themselves in our music, we want them to get that out of it. We made the songs for them and for us, because we too often feel the same way.

Fires Of Freya is a rock band with such energy, it's truly electrifying of how exhilarating their music presents tends to be. With that said, the band has a debut single out, with newer music in the form of a debut album, expected real soon. The band caught up to talk of themselves and the music tat they create.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Fires of Freya was formed in December 2017 by Cheryl Reynolds (Lead singer and keyboards). We’ve seen several member changes, our current guitarist, Shaun Evans, joined the band in May 2018 and played his 1st gig with us only a few weeks later – it’s a good job he’s a fast learner! James Withington joined most recently in May 2019 as bass guitarist and his first PRACTICE was a Battle of the Band gig – he was definitely thrown in the deep end with that start, but he was excellent! Dan, our drummer, along with Cheryl are our original members.

We’ve been a band a relatively short length of time but have already achieved great things. We reached the final of the Soundwaves music competition and played the mainstage O2 Academy Newcastle. We’ve recorded 2 live EP’s (Crash and Burn and, Muddy Waters). These are no longer available to stream, but copies can still be bought on our big cartel online shop. We released our 1st proper single in September 2019 ‘Take a Bow’ which is available to stream and download in all the usual places. This track has been well received with plays on Planet Rock, Top track of the week on Valley FM and is currently playing on numerous radio stations worldwide. It’s reached over 13k plays on Spotify alone.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The name comes from Cheryl’s love of all thinks mythical including Norse mythology. Freya is the Norse goddess of love, war and death (among other things). She rides a chariot of cats and so the bands logo is a flaming lion (his name is Monty)

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are based in the North East of England (James and Dan live in Sunderland, Shaun lives in Washington and Cheryl lives in Durham although she is originally from Wishaw, near Glasgow in Scotland)

4. How would you describe your style?

Eclectic Rock. We don’t follow genre rules and have no plans to. We write what we think sounds good and what we enjoy performing. We lean towards the blues rock sound for quite a few of our tracks, we also have more keys-based tracks and tend to go a bit on the grunge side on occasions. We just class ourselves as rock! We write powerful emotional tracks with impressive solos and smoky powerhouse vocals.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

"Take a Bow" is our debut single. This has a blues rock sound to it with an impressive solo, powerful vocals and tempo changes to create excitement. It comes with a message, that people will try and put you down, try and control you and make you theirs but they will not succeed, you can remain your own person and achieve great things if you put your mind to it.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes, we are currently working on our debut album. We’ve a long way to go yet but our next single "Complicated" is due to be released at the end of the year.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We mostly play locally at the moment and on occasions go to other parts of the UK to play. We’ve played successful gigs in Edinburgh, Hawick and Leeds to date as well as the North East of England and we have plans to do mini tours of the UK once we have built up enough presence to do so. We’ve supported some top UK up and coming bands including Glasgow based Neshiima and As December Falls.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We’re focused on recording our music at the moment, we are looking to record an album hopefully by the end of next year. We have so many ace tracks that we want to get recorded and released onto the world. We plan to play more gigs outside the North East, more festivals if we can and just to continue doing as we have, we’re doing well and being well received so just more of the same push.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We have a big cartel shop where fans can buy our live EP’s and merch. (New merch coming soon!)
https://firesoffreyaofficial.bigcartel.com/.

Our debut single, "Take a Bow" is available to stream on Spotify, Google, Apple, Deezer and all other major streaming services and available to download on iTunes etc. We’ve also created a music video for the track and is available to view on YouTube – just search Fires of Freya!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We create emotive Rock and so we hope people can connect with our music. See themselves in the lyrics and pull strength from them. The music is created as an outlet for life's struggles, it helps the band express themselves and deal with life and so we hope it does the same for our listeners and energies them to be their best self and let no one put them down! We also hope listeners think our music is catchy and they hear talent in the creation of the songs.
