Italians MADNESS OF SORROW a goth horror metal band that has been around for quite some time, have gone on to release a new EP "The Silent Sovereign", with the band not getting the chance to speak with me for about eight years! But now we have taken the time to talk and catch up, and they go over their latest EP and the plans for the future.


1. It's been eight years since we last spoke, what has been going on with Madness Of Sorrow between then and now?

It has been a long time! We made it through the COVID period by writing the EP '666: The Disciple', which we released in 2022 and promoted live until 2024 with great results. The band also went through some line-up changes (as often happens), but I've built a strong connection with the musicians who have been playing live with me since 2023. The result of this synergy is our latest EP, 'The Silent Sovereign', where everyone was fully involved in the process.

2. Back when vocalist/guitarist Muriel Saracino had stepped down as vocalist and was replaced by vocalist Prophet, is that still the case up until nowadays or is Muriel Saracino back?

At the time, I stepped down due to asthma issues. While they aren't 100% resolved, I can now sing properly again. I’ve always been on good terms with Prophet; we have a twenty-year friendship.

3. It's also been eight years since the last release of what was your fifth full-length to date, are you working on a follow up?

Nope, actually we're satisfied on work at few songs for Ep releases, we're trying to put the best effort on songwriting and supporting songs with videos and stuff.

4. Besides your album releases since then, you have released singles and a couple of EPs, tell me about the most recent?

"The Silent Sovereign" is a horror concept inspired by 'The Omen' saga and some demonic themes. My alter ego, MuriHell—who was possessed and damned in the previous EP, 666: The Disciple—is now climbing the political ranks to rule the world and lead it to total devastation.

5. Would you say that the band's logo has changed its design since its formation?

In 2022, I was looking for a logo with a schizophrenic and horror-based feel. Thanks to a collaboration with Driope, that vision became a reality.


6. What do you think has changed the most since the band's formation way back when in 2011 up until now in 2026?

I’m a much better musician, producer, and video maker now. It's important to remember that I write and record almost everything myself—about 90% of the material. That said, I’ve always been surrounded by incredible musicians; their skills have always been top-notch, and I’ve learned a lot from everyone involved in the records over the years. I also want to add that with the current line-up, we share a wonderful and mature personal relationship. It’s likely because we are all roughly the same age—all of us around our 40s—which brings a great balance to the band.

7. Are you working on any other projects music or non that you would like to discuss?

I'm currently working on an industrial metal side project called ROVO. I chose this name because the word 'Rovo' (which means bramble or brier) perfectly mirrors the industrial sound: it's entangled, thorny, and sharp. Just like a thicket of thorns, the music is meant to be intricate and aggressive, creating a sonic landscape that is both raw and hard to break through.

8. Are there any shows and or tours in the works we can expect to see?

We are planning gigs in Italy, something also outside but we have to see what can happens.

9. When can we expect the band to come to the U.S Of A?

There are no immediate plans at the moment, but I love the USA. I honestly wish I had been born there, but fate had other plans! It’s definitely something I want to achieve before eventually wrapping up the Madness of Sorrow project. Hopefully, it will happen in the near future.

10. What other plans does the band have in store for 2026?

We have at least two more videos in the pre-production phase right now. We’re also discussing the possibility of recording one or two covers of songs we love from outside the metal genre. So, stay tuned!

Gothic, metal, horror trio MADNESS OF SORROW have released their fifth full-length album to date titled "Confessions From The Graveyard". With this album, came not just changes over the years and within the band, but so much emotion with it as well. Shows are set with more content to be released soon enough. Main man vocalist/guitarist Muriel Saracino goes into talks about this overdue discussion of lengthy time frames, music, and much more!


1. So it has been 6 years since we first and last spoke, so summarize for me what Madness Of Sorrow has been up to?

So, we have four albums, always being well received by the audience, a lot of changes within the line-up, with people that changed cities, other jobs, had injuries, so much that I'm not even joking.

2. During that time frame you stepped out as vocalist having Prophet fill in, upon your album "N.W.O. The Beginning", why the switch up?

Unfortunately for me, asthma had returned and I had to cure myself. I had no breath to sing. Prophet is a good friend of mine, so he did a great job filling in. All things were good, I was happy as a guitarist, but he's jobless and was unable to cover the upcoming tour, that's why at the end of it all, I had decided to return and be the voice of M.O.S.

3. After that release, you return as vocalist once more, so what happened?

Find answer above.

4. "Confessions From The Graveyard", is your fifth album to date, what comes to mind when hearing such a thing?

Considering that this album was very painful to write and I wasn't sure that I could even finish it, because I've faced two months of depression, I wasn't able to do much of anything. I'm happy with all of M.O.S.' records, but this particular album is our best album to date. With five albums we are at a good point with this band. I honestly don't know how far I can go with this project at this point.

5. What is it about this particular album, that had to go down a more emotional path in terms of the lyrics and contents of it?

As said, all of these lyrics are about what I've dealt with when my dad lost his battle with cancer in 2016. It's all happened within his last months of life. I remember visiting him in September, and he was able to stay standing, drive, eat, all the things that he couldn't do come December. In those three months all was changed and it was like a tornado of thoughts, things, it was all very quick and you have to react anyway.

6. Can you disclose the details behind the choice of art for the cover of this album?

Emanuele Lombardi was the one who did it. He's a very good musician and talented photographer. He had listened to the record, then took this photo he had made and turned it into a piece of art, for this album.

7. How about the titling, why go with such a title, does it have a meaning to go with it?

It's all about feelings, that we all experience sooner or later with the loss of someone dear to us. That being the loss of a parent, wife, husband, brother, sister, etc. All of these confessions are full of sadness, rage, desperation, loneliness, it's absolutely and extremely difficult to have the courage of speaking of it, but you find that you can slowly start to rise again, expressing oneself.

8. Throughout the entirety of your five full-length albums, the band's namesake has changed in term's of art styling, going from having "madness" be red on the first, then "sorrow" be red on the second, with "M" being red and solely alone on the third, down to the whole name being red on the fourth with the fifth having the name being white. Why go with such a pattern choice of these colors?

I love red, white, and black altogether. It's a standard mix within the gothic styles I think. The "M" was designed by our ex-guitarist during our release of "III: The Best" album. It since remains as our logo because I love it too much. Usually I try to reinvent the image of the band with every release and the whole new name style is an example of this.

9. Out of all of these releases, do each of them share a connection on any shape or form?

No. Every one of our releases has it's own concept, although there are various theme's connected like the rage against the church or against hypocrite people.

10. "Sanity", is your latest track to come off this album, with accompanying music video, tell me about that track and video release for us?

I want something that is connected to mental illness and that is why I play the role of a patient in the video. I always joked with friends and they would often tell me, "You're crazy my answer is always the same, with me saying "I perfectly know and you're sure to be sane?"

11. Will there be any other tracks to receive this same treatment?

I'm thinking about the next track being one called "Creepy", at the moment. It is a track that is something totally new in the M.O.S. discography. I think it could be a great song for a video release. There are a couple of other songs that I want to examine as well, but in time will tell for sure.

12. Since the beginning the band has always stuck to the gothic, metal, rock, horror, death, theme and genre choices, but has the sound progressed or changed during that time frame of then up until now?

We started as a gothic rock band, with doom influences and from that album "III: The Beast", I had started to include some extremely metal elements, like blast beasts on the drums, and even speedier guitar riffs. I don't want to write the same old song with every album. It has to be a meticulous writing process that I don't want to be repetitive, except for the fact that I write all the songs and something could be similar in sound at the long run of it all.

13. What other plans does the band have for the rest of 2018 going right into 2019?

We are about to play some shows in Italy this month of November. We're also working to have more shows in 2019. Maybe something out in Europe again, but we have to work on it.

For the past seven years, Madness Of Sorrow have released five full-length albums, their most recent to date being "Confessions From The Graveyard". Since their 2015 release “III: The Beast”, vocals were provided by Prophet, then it had Muriel Saracino return to take over said duties as vocalist and guitarist as he always had been prior. As a matter of fact, actually,  Muriel Saracino has faced the loss of a loved one, his father, in which he has transformed the pain into music, upon you hear on this release. Thus, taking the listener into a whole another realm of so called limbo, that is nothing but despair, anger, involving in a double vision result of death those who will face it and those who live with assisting others that they love. In short, it is a very therapeutic album for Muriel Saracino, and the band Madness Of Sorrow as well. While the content off the album is very meaningful, passionate, and insightful, of all emotions, it packs in such vision of the instrumentals and vocalization, that it makes this release so worthwhile of listening; it becomes rather endless. The works being very content, upbeat, and structured so well, that the material just soars off itself, creating this essence that makes you feel at ease yet comfortable. Take such tracks as "The Path", "No Regrets", "The Consciousness of Pain", and "Creepy", their melodies of pride and motives, takes on this embrace you feel the eeriness. Like think of Wednesday13’s more mellowed works, mixed in with Th 69 Eyes, edginess and you get the ideal concept behind Madness Of Sorrow’s latest album “Confessions From The Graveyard”. In other words, this album has a lot to take from it, you get so much, you are left with no response except perhaps wonder and such wisdom it leaves you pondering.

Madness Of Sorrow have announced some line-up changes, announcing the arrival of Charles A. Skull as the bassist and choirs, with the return of vocalist Murihell. The band would like to thank Prophet as former vocalist, he had done for the band, upon their third full-length album "N.W.O." As well as the work that Jonathan Manfredi had commitmented and skills shown during the touring dates made as the bassist as part of their 2017 run. The band will return as a trio act with all new shows and music to follow suit soon enough!

Madness Of Sorrow has released a new video for the song"You're Not Alone". The video was filmed in an abandoned hospital near Turin, a very fascinating and dark place! The track comes off the band's fourth studio album, “N.W.O. - The Beginning”, which was released on March 1, 2017 as a digital download via W13 Digital Distribution. Check it out right HERE.

Madness Of Sorrow has gone through some changes as of late, as former vocalist and instrumentalist Muriel Saracino stepped down as vocals to focus on guitar parts, song writing and the managerial side of the band. So replacing him would be new vocalist of the band Prophet. Prophet now in the role, the band would move on to write and record what will be their fourth album "N.W.O. The Beginning". The title likely referencing the band's "new" beginning with their new vocalist Prophet just a guess though.

 In any case this fourth full-length album, consists of 12-tracks, consisting of an intro and outro track, with some heavy grooving horror metal in the middle. For instance, tracks like "Inside The Church", "RIP", "Zombieified", as well as "Keep Your Head" are all quite good, they are heavy, keep the music flowing, and sound just like the band's previous works. Except this time of course, they have the addition of Prophet as the vocalist, and his vocal chords on the album, really make it that more interesting. His style is fresh and keeps the music bouncing, like a faster energy is flowing from the beginning of the album to the end of it, if that makes sense.

The album just brings out this variation of the music that they have built upon, you got the heaviness in these tracks, while other tracks keep the heaviness inside, but take a mellower approach, resembling a more gothic, easy going vibration. It's like if HIM and Davey Suicide teamed up, is what you get when listening to "N.W.O. The Beginning". Well maybe not just those acts, but some added effects of Wednesday 13 with his former act of the Murderdolls, is what this band and album do, and the affect it creates.

Madness Of Sorrow may have gone through some changes to the band themselves, but those changes were made well, because this point can take the band to a whole lot more places, with this improved sound and style of rhythm. That they have got going on.

Madness Of Sorrow are proud to announce the new singer of the band, Prophet. After three records the mastermind Muriel Saracino decided to focus on songwriting and the managerial side of the band, while continuing to take care of the guitar parts.

The current line-up is as follows:

Prophet: Vocals
Muriel: Guitar / Vocals
Derrick: Drums

Madness Of Sorrow is back again, with a third album under their belts this time called "III: The Beast". A song selection of 10-tracks that takes their usual style but heightens it with a more in-depth experience. Like for instance the vocal chords are more on the edgier side, while the instrumentals provide their own uniqueness to the music being portrayed. Such songs as "Seed of Evil", "The Army of Sinners", and "The Black Lady", showcase this tactic, just slightly, whereas other songs like "No Redemption", "Crucifixed", and "Evil Angel", heightens the music, expressing it further, having it be more edgier and aggressive. To put it simply it's heavy shit. This release is filled with songs that are unique, creative, and heavy, maintaining a raw, energetic, feel that keeps you on the edge.

Gothic metallers Madness Of Sorrow released their 2011 debut "Signs" which was later followed-up with 2013's sophomore effort "Take the Children Away from the Priest". This time around this album speaks about various themes all linked to the Vatican church having dealt with corruption, pedophilia, and it's uncountable wealth as well as personal themes since this release was not intended to be a concept album.

The album's leading single and video for "King must die", embraces a mid temp energy with a nice arrangement made by the keyboards that allows this haunting yet spooky essence which engulfs the song and whole album. Other songs like "I Hate You", "I'm not perfect", "Guilty", and "Ghost", express a truly amazing atmosphere with the music, each song giving off this eerie presents as "King must die" did except these songs take that feeling and forces it, making it more captivating and unique.


"Take the Children  Away from the Priest" is a follow-up release that takes what was there before, in "Signs" and breaks free, showcasing a whole another side, of what Madness Of Sorrow is capable of doing, this shows maturity, music ability, and achievement as musicians.

Madness Of Sorrow's  "Signs" has been causing quite a havok since its FREE release. With numerous tracks such as "Six Sex Sin", "Miss Suicide", "Radio Death "and "The Armageddon Song", these selections alone, really are what set up what to expect. As soon as the guitars and drums begin to flow through the musical barrier artists such as the Muderdolls, Wednesday 13, The 69 Eyes, and Cadaveria come to mind. With that the instrumentals used here are flawless extensive amounts of energy but the momentum is truly dark and heavy. Lyrically the album is based around the horror concept from horror flicks to gothic fairytales frontman Muriel saying "We liked surrounding our material in the horror world". Overall this release is filled with not just heavy duty dark metal music Muriel says "We wanted to invite people to know about us through our music because we listen to tons of different music and you can hear it in our songs". Which is without doubt true having the material going into the right dramatic purpose of its creation...

Muriel Saracino got his start with music releasing a debut album with his previous material called Filth Teens. From these ashes became his all new project from Italy called Madness Of Sorrow. This then lead to them releasing their first album "Signs" for FREE online. The frontman behind it all spoke to me about his current project and what and who this Madness Of Sorrow is.


1. So why did you want to go and call the band Madness Of Sorrow?

Muriel: I thought the name was cool in my opinion and it represents exactly who I am and the mood of the music that we want to create.

2. You have an album called "Signs" is this your debut album?

Muriel: Yes this is our first album that Madness Of Sorrow has released but it is NOT my first album ever only because I’d written a debut album back in 2007 called “Filthy Teens”.

3. Your lyrical writing consists of horror movies; gothic fairytales that type of genre why go in this direction?

Muriel: We liked surrounding our material in the horror world whether it’d be movies, fairytales, etc. For me it’s a good way of inspiration when writing the lyrics to these songs.


4. So since you choose to go this route, tell me what is your favorite horror movie and fairytale and why?

Muriel: Bram Stoker's Dracula, Rec 1&2, the stories of E.A. Poe and Lovecraft.

5. If you could create your own horror movie or fairy tale in just 5 words what would it be?

Muriel: I don't want to write fairytales ah ah ah...for the films I say “bloody, violent, dark, and cursed” with a simple screenplay.

6. What inspired the album title? Is it a concept album?

Muriel: I like to call it a “semi concept” album because 4-5 songs have similar contents like the title track and “Radio Death”, “Clowns of the Earth”, and “The Armageddon Song”. The concept itself is based on the Maya prophecies and personal stories. “Signs” to me is a good title because it’s short, simple, and describes exactly what this album is. There are signs out there that we continue to ignore I think maybe one day we’ll pay the consequences.

7. How would you describe the overall sound of the new album?

Muriel: The sound is the right mix of classic heavy metal, dark rock and orchestral instruments used to give to the songs the right dramatic purpose.

8. Did the band have any definitive goals they were shooting for before the recording process began for this album?

Muriel: Yes I wanted to increase my ability in composing and recording the songs. I think I’ve reached that goal. The guys have made good arrangements and we’re all satisfied with the results.

9. When did you start writing for this album?

Muriel: I started writing in January 2009 then came out last October.

10. Can you go into one or two tracks on the new album? If so, can you give us the track title and brief description of how the track sounds and how it came about?

Muriel:  “Miss Suicide” is the first single that I wrote for “Signs” it represented a new light in my inspiration because at the end of 2008, I felt empty. It began from a guitar riff then added keyboards and lyrics of course.

Obviously when Simon, Ross and David heard the demo, they proposed their ideas and the song came out in the way it is now. Another song is "Armageddon Song". The other guys in the band loved it immediately and it remains like the first version that I showed to them.

11. What are your expectations for the CD?

Muriel: We want to invite people to know us throught our music that it's not only dark rock or gothic metal, because we listen tons of different music and you can hear it in the songs.

12. Tell me about your record label W1tch R3cords, you’re the manager of this label and the band is of course signed with them so how did this whole thing come about?

Muriel: W1tch R3cords is a digital metal label that distributes albums all over the world through iTunes, Amazon, and other stores. I founded it two years ago because I wanted to give opportunities to underground Italian metal bands.

Obviously I wanted to release Madness of Sorrow’s music this way because we’re free from labels that can't guarantee anything to musicians.


13. What is the music scene like in Milano?

Muriel: Tragic, like in the rest of Italy ah ah. Madness Of Sorrow, Laura Pausini, Eros Ramazzotti and the rest of underground bands fight for little praise. But bands like Lacuna Coil are more famous to the foreign countries instead of Italy.

14. Any there any bands from Milano that you would recommend?

Muriel: Yeah, Madness of Sorrow...ah ah ah…. No, I’d have to say Scream Baby Scream, is a very good band.

15. Do you have any upcoming tour plans?

Muriel: No, we've opened for Cadaveria but there aren't any more opportunities here, and we have no money to organize a tour. Maybe someday soon something will happen.

16. Anything else you'd like to say or add?
