Psalm Discusses New Music Fast Approaching with the Future Looking Bright!

Metal go getters PSALM have released two EPs, with them working and finishing up all new material which will be released upon their debut album! The band discusses with us, how they got started, their namesake, music, and what the future has planned.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members

Psalm started in the San Fernando Valley of California around early January of 2020, we recorded a single that year entitled "Weight of Time" with the first psalm lineup that consisted of former members Livan Gomez, Bryan Ramirez, Abe, and myself Jon Torres. The following year with the same lineup we proceeded to record and release our first EP entitled "Blessed are the Cursed". After that release Psalm went on a 3 year hiatus until reforming in Nevada around early 2024. Psalm went through a lineup change and is what we still consist of now with lan Henneforth on drums, Carlos Martinez on guitar and myself Jon Torres on Guitar/ Bass / Vocals. The band hasn't felt this strong in such a long time and with this lineup we released our second EP (first with this lineup) "In Darkness... Have Mercy" which came in at number 9 on the doom charts of July!

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

So Psalm came from one of my favorite albums ever "Psalm 9" by the almighty trouble. It was Honestly one of the first pieces of doom metal I heard and instantaneously i fell in love with it. So when the time came to naming the group the first thing I could think of was Psalm, and it stood since

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Originally from California, the doom scene there wasn't to active we knew maybe 2 bands in the scene and not many shows involved with the genre sadly. But when reforming in Nevada we discovered how active it was over there! And it's been great! The shows! People! Promoters! Everyone is so supportive and welcoming it's exactly what Psalm was looking for to call its new home! Oh definitely! Go check out the following! Cattlemass (CA), Graveflower (NV), & Plague Doctor (NV)

4. How would you describe your style?

I'd say we're a good balanced band of different influences. We could be fast we could be slow but we'll always be heavy. we aim to conjure a full wall of sound made of earth- shaking guitars, low metallic bass, and atomic, pounding drums.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We so far have 2 EPs out, the first one entitled "Blessed are the Cursed" was released in October 2021 with our first lineup. Fast forward a couple years later to 2025 Psalm reformed with a new lineup to release "In Darkness...Have Mercy" on July 15th! With our most recent ep out we expect people to be blown away from what they'll hear, from the heavy guitars, pounding drums and a thundering bass underneath it all, it's a full force of everyone pushing on all cylinders and it really tells in the music

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes we do! We have a couple new tracks that we are finishing and that we have finished already, soon to be recorded for our full length debut soon!

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

At the moment we only have one show on our calendar and that's November 14th w/ Hippie Death Cult here in NV at the usual place! We're planning on branching out we'd love to start playing more out of state shows and fests, if they'll have us we'll play!

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Now that our EP is done and released we plan to focus on finishing the writing of what's to be our debut album, we believe if our fans enjoyed our most recent release then they'll love what's coming next.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We're currently streaming on most if not all streaming platforms Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Etc! And we have merch if anyone wants to pick something up at https://
psalm666.bandcamp.com/merch
.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

I'd like them to remember how true and honest the music is, through the music itself and the lyrics. Hopefully they could take away and/or relate to something that they heard, rather it be a lyric, the instrumentals whatever it is that makes it special to them.
