For almost three decades, the US/French Canadian-based melodic death metal syndicate KATAKLYSM has delivered unapologetic waves of powerful sound across the entire globe.

The band’s fifteenth full-length studio album, Goliath, was released last August via Nuclear Blast Records. Today, the band releases the music video for the title track.

KATAKLYSM'S Maurizio Iacono states, "As we enter a new year we cannot forget about the struggles the world is in and the darkness that engulfs it, however as the story tells of ancient bravery. No enemy is too big and no enemy is too strong … we are living through a modern-day Davis vs Goliath situation, it’s time to rise up together and bond that energy as one against the machine! Enjoy this video we shot for the title track GOLIATH as we prepare to embark on a world mission in the name of metal and freedom!"

Pasadena Comic Con is the premiere comic convention in Pasadena, California, much smaller in comparison to the San Diego Comic Con, but it is still a con nonetheless. This year for the recent newly New Year that is 2024, they would bring in the acts unlike any other, lots of names within the comic scene such as Johnny Yong Bosch known to many as the Black Ranger for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, when he came in for the later seasons, as well as voicing a character from the anime Bleach. Other guests like Derek Riggs the artist behind a lot of the Iron Maiden artwork, another Mighty Morphin Power Ranger Austin St. John the red ranger, as well as the original black ranger Walter Jones was there. Butch Hartman a famous animator was there, as well as Tom Kenny the voice behind Spongebob Squarepants was present, as well as many other guests.

Upon arriving around 11AM, browsing the floors for a couple of hours, meeting various guests like James Duval from 2001’s Donnie Darko, he played Frank the giant bunny rabbit. As well as getting to meet the creator of Monster High Garrett Sander, along with some other Monster High voice actor cast being alongside too. It was a fun and exciting experience to witness meeting these guests, and seeing some people dressed up in costumes too. Some characters spotted included a lot of Star Wars characters, Power Rangers, super heroes, and others roaming the halls checking out the various booths and merchandise spread about.

The hallways outside the main halls, were filled with booths, with more guests and merchandise, along with more people dressed up. Outside the convention hall was the ice cream truck from Twisted Metal the video game! This comic con whilst small did draw in a crowd, it did not sell out, but did pack it in, with it being crowded but not overly swarmed with too many people.

In the end it is another comic con to add to your list of conventions to indeed check out at least once. Having been this being my second time in attendance, I had a splendid time, roaming around, meeting guests, buying goodies, and having a fun time overall. Likely will go back again in the next if not following years, because Pasadena knows how to throw on some good but fun events all year!

DISTANT keep pushing the envelope and reinventing themselves. After releasing a number of remixes they are revealing a very special cooperation: Together with their friends in Within Destruction they are releasing a new version of their song “Exofilth”, “Exofilth 2.0”. Not only did both bands tour together in the past, WITHIN DESTRUCTION guitarist Howard Fang has also co-produced DISTANT’s latest album Heritage.

Check the song and matching lyric video to hear and see the dueling guitars of Nouri Yetgin and Howard Fang as well as blistering vocals of Alan Grnja and Rok Rupnik: https://youtu.be/HaJ076heWKU.

Bruce Dickinson has released his brand new single, ‘Rain On The Graves’, accompanied by a thrilling video introducing Bruce’s live band, comprising guitarist Roy Z, drummer Dave Moreno, bass-player Tanya O’Callaghan and keyboard maestro Mistheria. ‘Rain On The Graves’ is the second single to be taken from Bruce Dickinson’s forthcoming solo album The Mandrake Project which will be released on March 1st, via BMG. Riding on a towering guitar riff, with dramatic keyboards and a commanding vocal performance, it was inspired by a rainy visit to Romantic poet William Wordsworth’s grave in the Lake District. The song grew into a rumination on the nature of mortality and the deal with the Devil that artists have come to feel themselves making ever since Robert Johnson proved it worthwhile back in the 1930s.

“I had the chorus lyric since I visited Grasmere for a wedding back in 2012,” explains Bruce, “and it wasn’t difficult years later to create the rest of the song with so much rich imagery in my head!”  It is a classic Dickinson/Roy Z collaboration; a catchy but heavy piece – full of melody but stripping out the spoken vocals of the verses in almost poetic fashion – maybe a further ode to the great wordsmith who inspired the title, somehow juxtaposed with music fit to raise the ghost of Robert Johnson at his metaphorical crossroads.

With a video shot entirely in a wintery Cornwall – again with Director Ryan Mackfall – we get to see Bruce the actor, a preacher no less, making his own deal with the Devil and dragging his ‘House Band from Hell’ into the bargain.

The follow up single to the hugely acclaimed track ‘Afterglow Of Ragnarok’, ‘Rain On The Graves’ showcases the inventive, expansive and absorbing nature of The Mandrake Project. Sonically heavy and rich in musical textures, the album sees Bruce bring to life a musical vision long-in-the-making. Created with co-writer and producer Roy Z, they have crafted one of the defining rock albums of 2024.

Check out the new video single HERE.

However, The Mandrake Project is not just an album. The comic book of the same name is a dark, adult story of power, abuse and a struggle for identity, set against the backdrop of scientific and occult genius. Created by Bruce Dickinson, it is a collectable series of graphic novels scripted by Tony Lee (Dr Who), stunningly illustrated by Staz Johnson (2000AD) & with covers by industry heavyweight Bill Sienkiewicz for Z2 Comics, which will be released as 12 quarterly issues that will be collated into three annual graphic novels with the first coming at the end of 2024. The first individual episode was released in comic shops on January 17th & the special Collectors’ Edition sold out within 48 hours of release.

Bruce Dickinson and his phenomenal band will bring the music of The Mandrake Project to life with a major headline tour this spring and summer. A newly announced extra show in Wolverhampton at the re-furbished The Halls on May 16th will go on sale next week with presale details on www.themandrakeproject.com.

Support in the UK, Paris & Tilburg comes from New Zealand up & coming rockers, Black Smoke Trigger.

Moldova's INFECTED RAIN return with their massive sixth modern progressive metal opus, 'TIME', on February 9, 2024 via Napalm Records! Following their most successful album to date, 2022's 'Ecdysis' - which garnered prime media acclaim, hundreds of thousands of streams and views, and debuted in the Top 20 on the US Current Hard Music charts - INFECTED RAIN climbs even higher with 'TIME'.

Trailing their successful latest singles "NEVER TO RETURN" and "BECAUSE I LET YOU" - which have garnered over a combined half million cross-platform streams and views on Spotify and YouTube alone - the band ushers in 2024 with the eerie, crushingly heavy "VIVARIUM". The track boasts electro-laced djent rhythms and spine-tingling passages whilst frontwoman Lena Scissorhands warns of so-called freedoms that are not truly free.

INFECTED RAIN says about "VIVARIUM":

"'VIVARIUM' is about feeling trapped in a world we've built ourselves.

A perfect world full of illusion, gimmicks and fake promises, like a beautiful but restricting glass garden.

"It's about overcoming these barriers, and seeing through the thick air and tall walls.

This song is for everyone trying to break free from their own limits and create their own path."

Watch the gripping official video for “VIVARIUM” HERE.

"My family's always been in meat" - since its release in 1974, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has been slashing itself into the hearts of a loyal fanbase. Today, death metal miscreants ABORTED pay their very own tribute to this classic by releasing their new single 'Death Cult' - a track of intense brutality, characterized by lightning-fast guitar riffs, intricate, pummeling drum patterns and monstrous vocals. Joined by DESPISED ICON's Alex Erian, the band offers their fans a breathtaking ride through the abyss – paired with a cinematic interpretation of the horror classic, that you can watch here:
https://youtu.be/TCCU0p7CbOw.

ABORTED have not only summoned Leatherface, but a whole host of horror movie villains, ready to be unleashed on March 15th. So sit back, grab a snack, and crawl down into the Vault of Horrors - the upcoming album from the death metal veterans, and the first under the flag of Nuclear Blast.
Ten ferocious, gut-wrenching death metal slashers await you in this cabinet of horror movie classics. ABORTED invited the crème de la crème of the heavy music scene to the party, and on each track of the album you will find a different guest vocalist – ranging from Alex Erian (DESPISED ICON) to Johnny Ciardullo (CARCOSA / ANGELMAKER), Ben Duerr (SHADOW OF INTENT), Francesco Paoli (FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE) and more.

"The biggest problem that art has nowadays is that it doesn't hurt anymore," says GHØSTKID vocalist and agent provocateur Sebastian "Sushi" Biesler. "Especially here in Germany, people are so afraid to push boundaries, to make art that makes you think and feel."

By fall 2021, with the world shutdown seemingly over, Sushi wasn't content to let his creative yen languish at home in Germany.

"Even though we had made it through COVID, I was missing being able to play live, to really function as a band," says Sushi. "It didn't feel real to me. I became distanced from the music." A six-week decampment to Los Angeles became the creative fuel for GHØSTKID's next steps.  The last vestiges of Hollywood sleaze, decaying glamour, personal temptation, and the still-vibrant creative vibes of the city became the frontman's "don't-look-before-you-leap" inspiration for the gestating HOLLYWOOD SUICIDE.

The album is a perfect snapshot of an artist finding himself, crawling from his own personal wreckage against a crumbling, mythical Californian milieu. "That's why 'HOLLYWOOD SUICIDE' is the first track. If you really want to make it, you have to give a lot. You have to be willing to give up everything. It's kind of like suicide to the person that you've been when you become an artist."

The matching, lush, and elaborate art adorning the album was created by Aly Wayne Gacy.

"'FSU' describes the raw and aggressive lifestyle of not giving a shit about anything and just do whatever you want," comments Biesler, who directed and edited the video in cooperation with Nils Lesser (Vaultroom Production) and Benjamin Klose. "The track was inspired by the Joker from Batman and the pure chaos and anarchy that the character is representing. Even if the lyrics circle around self-destructive behavior, the song is more about the feeling of freedom by dismissing the rules. It's a track about being a misfit and taking back your power, about being yourself, getting rid of labels and becoming independent — basically a big fuck you…"

Today also marks the release of the eagerly awaited video for GHØSTKID's latest single, "FSU." Check out the video single HERE.

AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE - the unmissable project helmed by As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis - returns with another new burner, the Terminator inspired track “Destroy The Machines”. Featuring vocals from the unstoppable Dany Lambesis and deft guitar work by Mark MacDonald and Joey Alarcon (Wolves at the Gate, Born Through Fire) - the track combines the most blistering metalcore and thrash-infused savagery known to both man and machinekind!

Tim Lambesis says about "Destroy The Machines":

"AI has begun taking over, and it happening pretty quickly. Arnold warned us about it back in 1991, and we should have listened. 33 years later I’m doing to best I can to spread the message that will save humanity. We must destroy the machines. Or at very least we should have a lot of fun singing about it.

"The vision I had in mind while writing the opening riff was to create a war march. Since AI can create song now, I challenge it to write one this aggressive. It’s my sonic war against the machines, and I believe I’m victorious… at least for now."

The Sweet Kill have just announced the release of their sophomore LP Nowhere with their latest video-single “Forbidden.” The new full length vinyl LP will arrive this spring via Young & Cold Records (Germany) as well as Shadow Zone Records (USA). The Sweet Kill is a one-man post-punk project which focuses on the more dark and gothic side of the genre. Perpetually recording and producing at his own studio SHADOW ZONE SOUND in Los Angeles, Pete Mills wrote The Sweet Kill’s sonic cinematic debut Darkness with the intent to inspire those lost in the shadows of life. The velvety crooning baritone Mills conducts a darkwave masterpiece of romantic sorrow echoing the laments of The Cure and Joy Division. With the newest offering from The Sweet Kill “Forbidden”, Mills creates a down tempo atmosphere that brings the listener into a melancholic realm. Describing the song Mills said, “Beneath the chilly glow of the moon, one might ponder, with a wry smile, the delicious conundrum of the forbidden. Ah, the thrill of diving into the depths of desire, to satiate an unnamable yearning! In the grand opera of life, some find their hearts drawn to the most enigmatic of duets, a dance shrouded in secrecy, away from the prying eyes of the world’s chorus”.

The eerie video, directed by Ellen Hawk, delves into this mystery realm with gusto, taking us on a strange sojourn into the moonlight. The haunting voice of Pete Mills serves as a guiding light through this shadowy adventure, cutting through the darkness with the intensity and warmth of a candle’s flame. His earnest croon adds a layer of depth and sincerity. Pete Mills delves into the depths of the human psyche, using an arsenal of cold synths, atmospheric guitar, and a melodic bass to sculpt an anthemic hook with bleeding-heart emotions. The protagonists, outcasts by nature, grapple with their desires in the shadows. Amidst secrets and whispers, their passion is intense yet prohibited, leading them to a paradise where they are exiled, consumed by a love both dark and irresistible.

Los Angeles-based dark melodic metal outfit Witherfall proudly presents their new single "Where Do I Begin?". The track is taken from their upcoming fourth full-length album "Sounds Of The Forgotten", due out on May 31st 2024 via DeathWave Records.

Commenting on the track, the band explains: "Our upcoming album 'Sounds Of The Forgotten' is our defining statement, a testament  to what we in Witherfall hold sacred in the Rock and Metal Zeitgeist. We delve into many forms on 'Sounds Of The Forgotten' and one of the truly lost art-forms becoming ever more rare is the 'Power Ballad'. Forgoing cheesy and sometimes hallow tropes about unrequited love we chose to write about our love of music. This ballad is an ode for anyone that finds themselves on their journey (whatever it may be) and fearing that their dream may be slipping away from them. Where do i begin? is a call to find your passion again and revisit those initial reasons for all of your sacrifices."

With "Where Do I Begin?" Witherfall might just have answered the question what would happen if Nevermore and Scorpions had ever teamed up for a song... Listen to "Where Do I Begin?" on Spotify or Apple Music.
