Danzig Brings the Haunt Out with Brief West Coast Run wit Stop in LA!
Having gotten invited to catch a show out in Inglewood at The Forum, was a fun time tonight. Catching several bands Cro-Mags, Abbath, Down, and Danzig, the show wasn’t sold out but quite filled up. He venue’s 200 section had been closed off, with the 100 section being quite filled out.
Arriving a little after 6PM, when the first band Cro-Mags were opening up, their hardcore punk antics had the crowd entertained. They had this old school hardcore flare element to their style of music, getting the crowd hyped up with music that kept all there energized. They are surely an act that made their performance fun to watch and bob your head too.
CRO-MAGS:
Next up would be black metal act Abbath, featuring the former frontman /guitarist of the other black metal act Immortal. His performance had a majority of the songs played be a lot of Immortal covers, which was pleasing. His and his band mates performance seemed to have had some minor difficulties with the instruments being louder than the vocals. But once that was patted out, the rest of the performance went well, and the band did a solid job of it. The material was heavy yet melodic at times, with harsh black metal vocal chords that sent chills down your spine. Surely quite the show let alone the performance, seeing a legend as Abbath himself, Immortal was a given yet pleasant surprise.
ABBATH:
Following would be Down fronted by the one and only Phil Anselmo, best known as the main frontman for Pantera, among many other projects. This band hadn’t played shows in quite sometime, even Phil was surprised. But this band brought on a more mellow tone, still heavy but not as intense. Think southern style but not country. More sludge, groove, stoner metal, with an old country vibe. Many there had no idea Phil was fronting this band, so it brought a lot of wonder to his performance. The whole band had the energy give or take, with the instrumentation being excellent, and vocal range being strong yet powerful.
DOWN:
Last up would be Danzig, the main man behind punk act The Misfits. Glen Danzig had announced this brief headlining tour, even saying how he wasn’t sure if another would happen again. So seeing Danzig again, the last time being way back in 2008 as he was doing what was known as the “Blackest of the Black Tour”, that had a quite the bill at the time. His performance back then was quite good, and tonight’s was even better. A lot of the songs sung included no cover songs of The Misfits or his other projects, just strictly Danzig content, a majority being off his first three releases. The crowd was quite pleased with the song arrangement, the most popular being the track called “Mother”. The stage’s set-up had Danzig’s skull and horns logo for the stage dressing with projection usage as well for the backdrop. With the use of lighting effects, it made the whole stage light up in various colors! The whole crowd would sing along, bang their heads and just have a good old time!
DANZIG:
Overall though, tonight’s performance was a good time, with plenty of fun to spare. Bands worthy of a watch, with an audience to boot, to keep the fun full and focused. Everyone was there to have a good time and one was spent as such indeed.

DEMON LUNG UNVEILS LYRIC VIDEO FOR COVER OF DANZIG’S “HOW THE GODS KILL”
The Las Vegas-based doom metal quartet DEMON LUNG – who Pitchfork says "harken back to the arching lurch of classic Candlemass and the distortion-caked tones of Electric Wizard" – have released a lyric video for their haunting and powerful rendition of the Danzig classic "How The Gods Kill." DANZIG PRESENTS BLACKEST OF THE BLACK DESTINATION FESTIVAL
This year marks the first Blackest Of The Black Destination Festival. The brainchild of Glenn Danzig, the event not only serves as a music festival, but as a cultural experience: an escape. Coming to Oak Canyon Park in Silverado, CA in Orange County on Memorial Day Weekend, Friday, May 26th and Saturday, May 27th, Blackest Of The Black will host two music stages, curated by Danzig, with performances by some of the heaviest acts around including Danzig, Ministry, Suicidal Tendencies, Atreyu, Vamps, and many more. The festival will be hosted by Full Metal Jackie and will feature camping, along with a number of sinister attractions including Castle Danzig -- a fully immersive walkthrough experience of agony, ecstasy and more, all based on the music and graphic novels of Glenn Danzig.
Glenn Danzig says, “I first started Blackest in the early 2000s and finally my full vision is being realized. Get ready for sensory overload, from films to comics to Castle Danzig. This is going to be the real Blackest Of The Black."

In addition to the outstanding musical lineup, Blackest Of The Black will feature a slew of attractions including a Verotik/Comic Con area, a roaming freak show filled with contortionists, demons, and more, thrill rides, and a Sugar Skull Contest. The main attraction, Castle Danzig, is an interactive walk through with a number of activations. Within the vicinity of the eerie castle and courtyard, attendees will find a sacrifice altar, bondage stage, suspension stage, electro stage, blood bath, a padded cell, stocks, cage dancers, and more!

Early Bird Single-day Friday tickets start at $39.00, and single-day Saturday tickets start at $49.00. Tent, Tent and Car, and RV camping spaces are available.
Camping is the easiest and most relaxing way for fans to immerse themselves at the Blackest Of The Black Festival. They can wake up just a short distance from the festival gates and stumble “home” after the show.
The campground check-in will begin at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 26. The proximity of the campground to the venue will allow campers to walk to and from the festival grounds freely while event doors are open.
Camping spots are very limited, offering Tent only, Tent and Car, and dry RV camping spaces. Campground amenities include complimentary showers and restrooms, general store, food and beverage for sale, as well as games and activities.
Prices are $125 for Tent camping and $199 for Tent and Car camping. Up to four festivalgoers can stay in one camping spot. Prices for dry hook up RV are $249 and up to six festivalgoers can stay in one RV.
*Festival admission is not included with camping spots.
A limited number of Friday/Saturday VIP packages will also be available for purchase for those over 21 years of age.
VIP Lounge packages for each day are $129 for Friday and $149 for Saturday, plus parking and fees. Danzig’s Skeletons to be Released November 27 via Evilive Records/Nuclear Blast Entertainment
You know it’s Danzig the moment you hear him. It’s not just that inimitable voice either. It’s the thick airy guitars, bluesy swagger, and “come hither” evil that placed him at the forefront of a number of musical revolutions. His work has indelibly impacted the landscape of extreme music, fortifying the crossroads between heavy riffs and occult imagery so prevalent these days. Moreover, you can consistently feel his presence throughout pop culture which expands further with his successful Verotik Comics and forthcoming feature film directorial debut.
However, Danzig wants to show you where it started with his tenth full-length album and first since 2010’s Deth Red Saboath — Skeletons. Due out on November 27 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment/Evilive Records Skeletons will be available for pre-order within the next couple of weeks and in the meantime be sure to check out Nuclear Blast’s announce video for the release HERE.
A labor of love that began in 1979, he pulls back the curtain behind his influences with a collection of ten covers spanning artists as diverse as Elvis Presley, ZZ Top, and Aerosmith to Black Sabbath, The Troggs, The Everly Brothers, and more. Recording across several years in Los Angeles, he quite literally reveals the bone structure for his own style and features some of the most striking album art of his career. Nodding to David Bowie’s Pin Ups, the cover features Danzig and model Kayden Kross in skullface.
“These are my skeletons,” he affirms. “You may or may not know that I dig these songs. You could say that some of this music is the actual basis and skeleton of what I listened to growing up—ultimately informing the kind of music I like. It’s the foundation. If you took Elvis and Sabbath out of my life, I probably wouldn’t be the Glenn Danzig you know! I’m glad both sides are represented on this record.”
Among the tracks, he takes Presley’s “Let Yourself Go” from the film Speedway and transforms it with a swinging distorted stomp and bluesy vocal crescendo. “I thought it was a song I could do something really cool with,” he goes on. “It’s also something that I didn’t think anyone would necessarily expect. When you tell them you’re going to do an Elvis cover, they expect something they know. Not a lot of people know this one. It’s actually on The ’68 Comeback Special, and it’s worth going back to.”
The Troggs “A Girl Like You” becomes a punkified juggernaut in his hands with its fuzzed-out guitars, pounding drums and the trademark Danzig sing-a-long choruses. He captures the rebellious spirit of the sixties outlaw biker films with a punked-out take on “Devil’s Angels” from the Devil’s Angels Soundtrack complete with his old school Misfits Dallas Arbiter Jumbo-Fuzz Pedal. Regarding “Satan” from Satan’s Sadists, Danzig assures, “You might be surprised, but I didn’t change any of the lyrics. I didn’t have to!”
Ultimately, Skeletons sparks the next phase for Danzig. Helping catalyze his next full-length offering and tour plans, it’s yet another revolution. “I hope people dig it,” he leaves off. “I also hope it gives everybody a little bit of insight into the music I listen to and maybe an insight into how I did the songs. If you enjoy it, that’s great.”No matter what, you’ll know it’s undeniably him the moment you press play.
