New wave of Traditional American heavy metal band CORNERS OF SANCTUARY have guitarist Mick Michaels talk of the holidays for this time of year!


1. What are you doing for the holidays?

Mick Michaels: Like many people, I will be spending time with my family...enjoy each other's company, getting caught up and indulging in some great food. Food always seems to be the highlight. Food, family and fun... the perfect Holiday combination.

2. This Halloween season I did what?

MM: I watched a ton of fun Halloween movies with my family throughout October. We made a list and watched a movie each night… capping it off with “A Nightmare Before Christmas” on Halloween night.

3. Did you dress up this year?

MM: Absolutely! I dress up every year as a rock star... :)

4. What is your favorite Halloween candy or treat?

MM: Hands down it has to be the Baby Ruth bar. Snickers comes in as a close second.

5. What are you thankful for?

MM: Besides being alive and kicking, I am so grateful for my family. Their love and support is what keeps me going and has me believing anything is possible.

6. Do you have a favorite dish for Thanksgiving or do you enjoy everything?

MM: I'm definitely a sampler when it comes to Holiday meals... a little bit if this, some of that...to me it is part if the experience. But if I had the choice, I’d say go right to desserts.

7. Who's the one out of the band, that eats the most, when it comes to the holiday season?

MM: I would have to say Mad T can really eat like a champ… regardless whether or not it the Holiday season. He has a stomach of steel.

8. Do you or have you gone shopping on Black Friday, if so what did you find and buy? Or have you gone out to see the sights of the crowds?

MM: I am not a Black Friday guy at all… ever. I usually put up the tree and all the decorations on Black Friday. I like to avoid the crowds if I can. These days I’m an online shopper. One and done!

9. When it comes to the holiday season, does the band all get together, or does everyone do their own thing?

MM: The band does get together for a Holiday dinner. We exchange presents and all...it's a real good time. It's a chance for us to spend time together and not be music related. During the month of December, while we are out on the road, we try and take as many photos of Christmas trees as we can find in different places. It's fun and everyone gets into the spirit of things. It also makes the long drives interesting.

10. What is your favorite Christmas song to sing and why?

MM: I have always enjoyed "Holly, Jolly Christmas" by Burl Ives as well as "Jingle Bell Rock" by Bobby Helms. These songs just reflect the fun and purity of the season and I find them uplifting. Plus, I really dig the banjo in "Holly, Jolly Christmas".

11. One thing you really want for Christmas is what?

MM: To have a great time with my family. My family is my greatest gift. I can’t ask for anything more. But I can always use socks.

12. Do you still believe in Santa Claus? Enough so, that you would pay him a visit at the mall or other local events?

MM: Absolutely do! Santa is cool and he represents the magic of the season. If we stop believing in the magic all could be lost. And yes…I have been known to swing by a mall or two and have a photo taken with the big man.

13. What type of Christmas tree do you prefer white or green or your own version?

MM: I'm a traditionalist...go green!

14. Are you a late or early Christmas shopper?

MM: Early… The sooner the better. This allows me time to actually enjoy the Holiday happenings.

15. One thing you have to do on New Year's Eve?

MM: Eat sushi!

16. Do you have any New Year's resolutions?

MM: Not really resolutions, more like goal settings. Each year I write a list of things I want to accomplish for the coming year.  I put them on paper with the best intentions. Committing them to paper is my way of letting the Universe know what my hopes are. On New Year's Day the following year I look at that list and go through what was accomplished. Of course there are always things that didn't get done. But what surprises me most are the things that get done that you didn't expect. That is always exciting. That’s the magic of life.

Killer Metal Records recording artist Corners of Sanctuary (COS) goes global as the band makes its first trip to Europe this August for a handful of live performances. This excursion takes them to Belgium and Germany as COS continues support for their newest album “The Galloping Hordes,” bringing their unique brand of traditional Heavy Metal to the world stage.

"The opportunity to take our music to Europe and play live is amazing," said COS bassist James Pera. "We have been waiting for this moment for quite awhile… now it’s here and we are ready," he continued.

The tour begins on August 10th in Eernegem, Belgium and finishes on August 18th in Lingen, Germany. See full tour schedule above.

The Philadelphia-based new wave of traditional American heavy metal band CORNERS OF SANCTUARY (COS) have released a new music video for the title track of their recent COS Classics album "Finding Sanctuary."

The video, which features clips from several of the band’s live performances, was produced by long time collaborator and Philly director Zen Say. Say fronted the production of several of COS’ previous music videos including “Tomorrow Never Comes” and “Wild Card.”

“It’s great to have a video that includes some of our live shows,” said COS bassist James Pera. “We’ve wanted to do a video like this for sometime… it definitely captures some of the fun we have performing,” he added.

Corners of Sanctuary (COS) have announced that the group’s longtime singer, Frankie Cross, who mutually parted ways with them last year, has stepped back into the role as COS frontman.

The band is already billed for a string of shows including performances with Roughhouse, Blood Feast, Anvil Bitch and Joey Belladonna along with a tour in Germany later this summer to support the release of their upcoming fifth album, "The Galloping Hordes", releasing on Killer Metal Records.

The band have checked in with the following comments: "It’s great to have Frankie back in the fold," said COS bassist James Pera. "We are excited about what lies ahead for the band and are very happy to have Frankie part of the adventure again. We’re like a family," he added.

The new album will feature Cross on lead vocals and will initially see the light of day as a digital release later this month followed by a cd release that will coincide with the group’s mini tour in Europe this August.

"There’s been a lot happening with us over that last eight months. Alot of changes and the new album has gone through more than a few incarnations, said COS guitarist Mick Michaels. Nothing beats the original vision we had for the music and that included Frankie, so that’s what we decided to stick with," he continued.

"The Galloping Hordes" has already begun building a buzz as both the band and fans patiently await the album’s official release.

"We are definitely revved up about getting the new music out there and sharing it with everyone," Pera said. "This album was a game changer for us on several different levels. It’s a strong representation of our growth and style," he added.

When asked how he felt to be back with Corners of Sanctuary, Cross stated; "Sometimes you just need to step back a bit so you can continue to move forward with what you love. This gives me a chance to refocus and to recharge. These guys are my brothers and being back is great! It’s like being back home again. You never really leave ‘cause there’s always a piece of it with you no matter where you go and right now it’s good to be home."

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania based heavy metal rockers Corners of Sanctuary (COS) have signed a new deal with German label Killer Metal Records for the release of their new album "The Galloping Hordes".

The album is set to release this year and will be the band’s sixth album following 2015’s "Metal Machine" and the holiday album "Driven Snow".

Corners of Sanctuary guitarist Mick Michaels has checked in with the following comment: "We are excited to get this album out through our new label Killer Metal Records, a lot of work has gone into this new material and we are very fortunate to have the opportunity to make its release official".

Killer Metal Records label owner Jens Häfner has provided the following comment: "We are very happy to be working with COS for the release of their new album and have been extremely impressed by their work. We welcome COS to the KMR family and look forward to a bright future working together".

Signing a five-year deal with the German label, the band plans to forge a long term relationship and looks to the future with renewed optimism. "This gives us a lot of room to grow for sure and gives our music a home," Michaels stated. "There’s actually an opportunity for both label and artist to be invested plus it ensures future releases will have a voice to be heard".

"The Galloping Hordes", which has been mastered by legendary producer Bill Metoyer (Slayer, W.A.S.P., Fates Warning), will initially see a digital release to begin building momentum followed by a physical release later in the year which will coincide with the band’s upcoming summer tour of Germany this August.

"We are beyond stoked to be heading to Germany for a number of shows", stated COS bassist James Pera. "The support has been phenomenal to say the least. We are looking forward to putting on a good show and making new friends with our Metal German brothers and sisters in arms," Pera added.

The mini tour will have them performing in Hanover, Hamburg, Lingen, and Oldenburg among other areas. "There is a lot of work ahead of us to make it all come together, and we are definitely up for this without a doubt," said drummer Mad T.

With a string of shows, including recently appearing with That Metal Show co-host and comedian Don Jamieson and being upcoming support for 80’s rockers Roughhouse (formerly Teeze) and Anthrax singer Joey Belladonna along with playing the Dead of Winter Storm Fest, COS has been in and out of the studio working on old and new music. "We are revamping a handful of older set favorites and laying down some new music that’s been floating around," offered Pera. "The music is always evolving and that’s what it’s all about, the music… without that, there isn’t much else to offer," he said with a smile.

Along with time in the studio and shows, the band plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign in late spring lead by MBM Music Inc., as well as host an album release party which will have them perform.

Heavy metal rock n' rollers CORNERS OF SANCTUARY have recently had a line-up change, plus released new music in the form of a single turned video for the track "Dreamers". That track will be included on the upcoming yet to be released new album "The Galloping Hordes". Guitarist Mick Michael discusses the line-up change to the band, their new single and video, as well as the new album with plans on playing more shows and tours as well!


1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Mick Michaels: Corners of Sanctuary formed in early 2011 after being involved in a reunion project with a band called Seeker. During the reunion we started talking about doing a new projected that reflected more of our musical roots.  We wanted to do songs we felt we weren’t hearing at that time… a return to form for us so to speak.  Originally, we were a three piece, James on bass and me on guitar with vocals being handled by our drummer at the time Sean. This worked great in the studio, just did not translate so well in a live setting.  So in late 2013 we brought in Frankie for the lead singer position.  In 2016 we replaced our original drummer with Mad T.  T had already been working with the band behind the scenes for several years including co-writing a handful of songs and filling on drums for a number of shows dating back to 2014. This past August we brought in new lead vocalist Treese Logan.

2. What’s the story behind the band’s name?

MM: “Corners of Sanctuary” are places that each of us can go to be ourselves without fear of judgment or ridicule – we can just be who we are. Anything or place can be a “corner of sanctuary” – it can also be a state of mind, thus, a state of being.  For us, music is a “corner of sanctuary” and we want to share that with others in the hope that they may find our music a “corner of sanctuary”.

3. How would you describe your style, to someone who has never heard your style before?

MM: We have been billing ourselves as New Wave of Traditional American Heavy Metal.  In reality it is all just Heavy Metal…it’s like being on a roller coaster, you think you know what you are in for until you are on the tracks and heading for your first downhill run… there’s twists and turns and ups and downs.  The music keeps your head rocking and your foot stomping!

4. Can you briefly tell me as to why you parted ways with singer Frankie Cross?

MM: Times change and so do people… after a while goals and priorities shift.  These types of things can begin to have a dramatic effect on a band and the music.  To reach new heights, sometimes you have to take a chance and make a change. We look at change as a positive thing… yeah it shakes things up a bit, but that’s the point… can’t knock down a wall without kicking up some dust.

5. Since departing you replaced him with a her named Treese Logan. So then how do you go about finding a new member that you know clicks with the band and meshes well with your music?

MM: There are a lot of factors involved in finding a new member… some weigh heavier than others and some you just won’t know until you put the time in. So as a band, we start with what works best for the music. We auditioned a handful of people… all different style styles, male and female. Again, it came down to what worked best for the music and Treese was the one.

6. What can be said about the new track titled "Dreams"?

MM: “Dreams” is not a typical Corners of Sanctuary song… and we knew that going into it. We wanted to try something different and are open to exploring and experimenting with various ways of creating music… doing a standalone single gives us that freedom to test the waters. I think the song is great and having Kayla on vocals was the icing on the cake. It’s a dark song with a lot of depth… and it creates additional opportunities for us down the line in terms of style and collaboration.

7. How about the accompanying video for the same track "Dreams", what is the concept behind it?

MM: The video gave us a chance to further develop the initial concept of the song which depicts a person’s journey into the dream world as a way to escape.  The video relays that but also hints at the blurring of lines between one reality and another. There are points in the video that suggest that this person may not be able to make a distinction anymore between what is real and what is fantasy.  However, internally, a spiritual guide was created to help lead the way and to reassure things would be alright. We wanted to do something low budget and campy. Girl watches old sci-fi movie on UHF… falls asleep and dreams.  Over time the dream becomes a nightmare… girl wakes up… or does she?

8. Besides this new song and video, what else do you have in terms of "new" music?

MM: In March we released an EP titled “Cut Your Losses” and we recently completed work on our next album “The Galloping Hordes”. We are hoping to have the album out in the coming months. We are also recording on a new single that will feature Treese on vocals… so look for that sometime soon.

9. When can we expect to hear more new music from this new album?

MM: We already include the title track “The Galloping Hordes” in our live set.  So catching us live is always an option. At the moment, we are in the process of finalizing releasing opportunities for the new record and hope to have some release dates available soon.

10. What does next year hold for Corners of Sanctuary?

MM: More music… more shows… We have our sights set on performing a string of shows in Europe. Plus we are talking with some organizations about heading in to Canada in 2018.  We will see.

Traditional heavy metal rockers CORNERS OF SANCTUARY (COS) have parted ways with singer Frankie Cross and announce the recruitment of new female vocalist Treese Logan.

"The band is moving into new directions. There's a lot more ground we intend to cover," said COS founder and guitarist, Mick Michaels. "Bringing Treese on as lead singer opens up the band to new possibilities and heights. We are very excited about this next chapter," he added.

“I‘m beyond thrilled to get to play hard and heavy with these boys and honored to get to contribute and grow with such talent and dedication,” said new COS lead singer Treese Logan in her initial public statement. “I cannot wait to get to work and build on what we will become together!” Logan added.

The announcement comes on the heels of the band's recent single release "Dreams" which features singer Kayla Marie from Powerless Rise. "We knew a change was coming, so we wanted to test the waters with a female vocalist fronting COS," Michaels said. "Having a guest singer for Dreams gave us that chance and the results were better than we imagined," he continued.

And even with the announcement of a new singer, the band has released a new music video for "Dreams" that includes Kayla Marie.

"It's a great song. A new video just made sense," said drummer and the song’s co-writer Mad T. "The video is definitely a heavy conceptual piece. Adding a few more layers to the song's meaning," he continued.
