Having worked with these guys for the past 2 years going on 3 soon enough Arrival Of Autumn, has discussed their music creations from their debut EP "Endless Nights" to their debut release "Shadows". While things have evolved and developed for them, a lot of that can indeed be found upon this release, especially on their singles "The Court of Owls", and "Labyrinth". The vocals for one, are clean cut, your able to enjoy the melody and vocal tone while the screaming portions occur every so often. This effect is catchy and effective because it balances the two of them out, you have that mellow dramatic intensity at once. Now the instrumentals for these tracks and the album itself, are just like the vocals, there catchy, mellow, yet intense, allowing both to work together, to develop the music, having it build as each song progresses. "Shadows" is an album that stands out, having that building effort that layers the music as a whole, making it become a listening experience that will build upon itself.

Since early 2011, Arrival Of Autumn has come from nothing and now have a large, and still growing fan base. They spent the last half of 2011 writing and recording their first EP titled "Endless Nights". They released Endless Nights on March 20th, 2012 and in just two days it placed #6 on the iTunes top 10 metal albums. They spent the rest of the summer playing shows in Edmonton, Grande Prairie, and surrounding cities and towns, promoting their EP. They've now been writing and recording new material for their next CD release, which is expected to be out at the end of 2013. Drummer Ty Fox took the time to discuss the band and CD progress and much more.

1.  So what can you tell me about this new album?

TY: The new album is a little faster paced, darker and more mature. We as a band have found our sound and really put it down on this new record. No ground is left uncovered.

2. What title did you decide to go with and is there a meaning behind it?

TY: Deciding the title of the album was tough but we chose the name “Shadows” because it’s a word that best represents the music and the atmosphere of this album. This record is dark!

3. Is this album going to be a concept release?

TY: This album is not a concept release but it does have a lot to do with owls. Most of the art deals with the imagery of one specific song. Maybe some day a concept release would be cool but this album focuses on a ton of different things both lyrically and musically.

4.Where are you in the recording process?

TY: The album is just under half way done. We are taking our sweet ass time doing the album because we want everything to be great and we are focusing on every aspect of every second of every track. All of us are working very hard making sure this will be a great piece of music.

5.  Who is producing the album? How has the producer aided the recording process?

TY: Our friend Bevin Booth is producing the album and has been a great deal of help. He has great ideas and is hard on us making sure we deliver the goods.

6.  Where are you recording the album?

TY: Shadows is being recorded at Bevin’s home studio. It works out perfect for us because it’s a hidden gem of a studio that’s close to home. Our producer really knows his stuff and we are thrilled at the quality of the recordings.

7.  Did the band have any definitive goals they were shooting for before the recording process began for this album?

TY: The band did have a few goals to strive for before the recording process. First of all to surpass our first release which I am proud to say that we have done. Another goal was to be at the forefront of changing the game for the better. Not to slam anyone but bands seem to be pumping out the same rehashed stuff over and over again. This record is different from what everyone else is doing. I personally feel it’s a breath of fresh air.

8.  Are you using any new instrumentation you've never used in the recording process before?

TY: So far this album is pretty organic. There will be a few surprises and twists like some strategically placed samples. But there will not be any dubstep or dance music wedged anywhere on this CD haha.

9. When did you start the songwriting process? How was it different/similar to the previous Arrival Of Autumn album.

TY: Songwriting began last summer and it has been way different so far. All of us have grown as musicians. Our styles are blending very nicely on this album and now that we have found our sound we write more as a team and less individual. Before some of the writing felt forced to maybe sound a certain way.

10. Did you feel any pressure to follow it up?

TY: I myself did not feel any pressure to follow up the last EP. It was a great place to start but we are moving forward. This CD is leaps and bounds ahead of Endless Nights.

11. Can you go into one or two tracks on the new album? If so can you give us the track title and brief description of how the track sounds and came about?

TY: Yes I can. One track that stands out to me is Labyrinth. It embodies everything AOA is about in one song. The track has everything from a beautiful slower ambient mid section to ripping fast drums and maybe one of the catchiest choruses out there.  The song just has a really nice dynamic to it.

12.  How do you think the vibe in the studio will go?

TY: The vibe in the studio has gone great so far. Its not really anybodies favorite place to spend time but always try to have fun with it. You will most likely see a few studio updates about how silly we tend to be when we get work done. Its all about having fun and making the best out of a situation!

13. When can we expect the new album to be released?

TY: The new album should be released sometime after summer. Like I said we are taking our time making sure we yield the best results!

14. What can fans expect to see from you in the future?

TY: They can expect a lot from us. We will be coming for all of you! Big things are coming up with the release of this CD. People are really going to dig it because its something different and fresh.

15. Is that your final answer?

TY: I have honestly been staring at this question for like 20 minutes trying to figure out a smart ass comment. Unfortunately I can’t think of much I am simply  drawing blanks. I will have something funny to say before the next interview!

Arrival Of Autumn released their debut EP “Endless Nights” having it place the #6 spot on iTune’s Top 10 Metal Albums chart the band went on to say how incredibly surprised they were about this. They also discussed their way of writing material the band’s history and just what this industry is turning out to become.

1.  So you call yourselves Arrival Of Autumn why?

The moment anything is exposed to any sort of hostility, you see a different side of them. Just as the leaves change color during autumn, people become brought down and weakened when going through struggle. It takes a lot for someone to make it through the winter and stay strong.

2.  You just released your debut EP "Endless Nights" and it placed a #6 spot on iTunes Top 10 Metal Albums, how does this make you feel?

Incredibly surprised! We never expected this to happen so early in our musical careers! We hope it keeps up as we progress in our music.

3.  What does the title "Endless Nights" mean and what is this release about what can the fans expect to hear?

The meaning of the song ‘Endless Nights’ is not to let people change that you are, and to stand up for what you believe in, whatever that may be. The lyrics “Endless Nights, Countless Days” kick off the song aggressively and we all agreed we wanted to name the EP after the song because of the intense lyrical content.

4. Tell us the brief history of your band.

In March 2011 all four of us committed ourselves to the band and gave it a name. We started writing and getting ready for live shows as soon as we formed.  All throughout the summer of 2011 we played in the Grande Prairie area and a show in B.C. In August we started recording our EP with our friend Doug Whipple, and wrapped it up at the end of 2011. In January we played our first headlining show which had a much better reaction than we were expecting! We were amazed at how much our fanbase had grown! We released our EP ‘Endless Nights’ on March 20th and it reached #6 on the iTunes top metal albums chart in only 2 days! Now we’re getting this EP out to people and doing what we love.

5.  Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

Jamison: Metallica, especially James Hetfield
Ty Fox: Ozzy Osbourne, and Robert Owen
Ty Mason: Growing up I listened to a lot of Metallica, Motley Crue, and Skid Row
They’re definitely my main influences.
Brendan Anderson: Metallica got me into the music I play now, more recently my influence is Josh Middleton of Sylosis.

6.  Who writes the songs, what are they about?

Brendan: We all contribute to the song writing process, either I or Jamison will come up with a song, and we’ll present it to the rest of the group to take the idea and make it into a song we are all confident in.
Jamison: Lyrically the message that our EP presents is that you have to take care of yourself, make your own choices, and nobody can help you but yourself.

7. What are your dreams and goals?

Ty Fox: To be self sufficient off the music we make, so we can keep doing what we enjoy.
Brendan: To present AOA to the public, and make a name for ourselves.
Jamison: To tour with my bros and play the music we love, to fans all over the world!
Mason: To be seen in the eyes of our fans, as I see my idols.

8. Do you think that the physical aspect of an album is going to die out for good since the digital world is upon us?

The physical form of an album is on its way out. When Slash releases an album and it only sells 38,000 in the first week, and cracks the top 5 on the billboard charts, there’s a problem. Bands will go back to just releasing singles or EP’s rather than full albums. Albums will always be there, but record stores won’t be.

9. What advice would you give to fellow bands?

Don’t give up! Do your own thing or you won’t stick out, we don’t need 100 more Asking Alexandrias! Give it everything you’ve got and the benefits will come.

10. What are the biggest obstacles for bands?

The biggest obstacle for bands right now is getting their start. Local music isn’t being supported enough, and bands have to work much harder than they did before.

They also need to find a chemistry between all the band members, so that they agree and can stick together to get through these obstacles.

11. Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

Our upcoming shows this summer are going to be wild! We go through so much improvement in so little time that every show is something new and better. We play our EP every show, and we’ve got some wicked covers that you all know and can sing along to! We’re also throwing new songs into our sets so be ready for what we bring!

12. Anything else you'd like to say or add?

When we started this band, all we needed was a laugh, but in the year that’s gone by we’ve accomplished so much more then we expected! Thanks to every fan that enjoys our music, and every fan that comes and rages at our shows! You make all this worth it!
