Kawaii metal pop group known as Babybeard was formed by Ladybeard known by his persona namesake. His real name is Richard Magarey, who has spent his time as a stunt actor as well as being a professional wrestler, him being best known by his Ladybeard name, a bearded 5 year old girl. He is a member of the metal pop idol group Babybeard, and is a former member of Deadlift Lolita and Ladybaby.
While the group Ladybaby and Babybeard take inspiration from one another, the two groups are not related. With that, some line-up changes have been made, since the band's formation in 2020. With activities taking place in spring 2021, with the following years, of them releasing singles, music videos, and even doing numerous performances over time.
One performance being played here in California in Orange County at this fall's OC Japan Fair, where the band would perform on all 3 days, Friday October 17, October 18, and October 19th 2025, at the OC Fair Grounds in Costa Mesa. Having gotten tickets for Saturday, and arriving to the event around 4PM, checking everything out vendor wise, food wise, and performance wise, the whole event as a whole felt well organized, and was quite entertaining.
Upon arriving, various booths were set up selling keychains, stickers, plush toys, appeal, mostly, with others selling food, from drinks like boba, soda, beer, food items like ramen, curry, bbq, sweet treats too! The performances were held on various stages, the OC Stage being outdoors at the far end of the lot. After browsing through the aisles of vendors, and actually getting a chance to have a meet and greet with them, it was off to see them play!
A little after 7PM, they would go on about 7:15PM and perform until a little after 8PM, during this time, the actual performance was built around Ladybeard's wrestling, with some moves done during the performance, with them performing such songs as "Macho!", "Nippon Kara Konnichiwa", "Twisted Kaiju Tale", and a cover by BabyMetal called "PA PA YA!!" The trio of idols, kept the dancing groovy yet fun. Whilst the vocalization done by them as well, was catchy and upbeat. It just felt very easy going and gave off a lot of energy. I found myself headbanging to the songs, and even during the finale I started the mosh pit action and had a circle pit moving!
BABYBEARD:
Overall it was a fun little fair, showcasing the Japanese culture to those who may be accustomed to it already, or any new comers joining in. It felt was fun, entertaining, and surely an event to check out, if you get the chance to do so.
