Alternative melodic rockers MY MISSPENT YOUTH have not one but two albums, a couple of singles, with newer music slowly in the progress and out soon. The band's discussion with us, goes into detail, about song creativeness, influences, and the plans to continue to make music so all could gear and like it too!

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or did it come out just like that? 

I read it in a book years ago and thought it sounded good. A misspent youth doesn’t just mean that you did something in your youth that you regret, but also that you didn’t do things you wanted to do. I think I can say that I fit in both categories, he he.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I have always had a deep passion for music, from rock to metal. My Misspent Youth is my outlet to explore the more melodic, alternative rock stuff. I also have a metal band were I get out the more aggressive stuff.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

When we first started the band, it was with a friend from high school and a friend I met later in life. Since then there’s been a lot of line-up changes, and now it’s basically my studio project were I play bass and guitar. I record the music in a studio here in Bergen, and Iver Sandøy who owns the studio, plays session drums. My Misspent Youth have always had a female vocalist, but this time I tried a male voice for the first time. I hooked up with Bjørn who I played in a band with in the 90's called Loophead. 

4. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

I live in Bergen, Norway. That’s the second largest city in Norway. There are a lot of bands here, but mostly metal bands. I could recommend Sectarian Love, they are a good live band. 

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Anything can inspire me. Often I just sit in front of the TV and play guitar or bass, and then suddenly i start to play something that I think sounds cool. Then I record it on my mobile phone, and after some time I listen to the recording and decide if it’s good enough to work more with.

6. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

I only did lyrics for three of the songs on the older material. One was about my mother, one about my father and one about my first girlfriend. Listen to the songs and find out for yourself which songs, he he.

7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

I guess I answered some of this in question 5. I usually make the song on the bass guitar. When I have a finished structure for a song, I go to the studio and record the bass. Then Iver will record the drums. I will then use the bass and drums recordings to develop the guitar riffs at home. When I have something finished, I go to the studio again and record. Then it’s time to get some vocals recorded, and that’s been the problem for the last 6-7 years. I’ve been waiting to find someone that can fit the style of the music I make. It was easier before, when we were a band and rehearsed on a weekly basis. If it works out with Bjørn, there will be new songs released soon. I also hope to put together a band that can play live.

8. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

Before we released "The Bigger Lie" in October this year, we have released two albums and one single. I’m very pleased with the music that’s been released under the My Misspent Youth name. It’s melodic and mellow, but also heavy and aggressive. I like it when a songs builds from always no sound to a big explosion. 9. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes, I have one song that only needs a bit of mixing and vocals. Also two songs with only bass and drums. There’s also a lot of rough ideas on my mobile phone, so it’s just a matter of working out the vocals.

10. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Not at the moment, but I hope to get a live line-up ready for some gigs.

11. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

For me it’s the same plan I have had the whole of my life; to make music that I like myself. If someone else also likes it - great!

Hispanic post punks POST CRUCIFIXION have their debut album out, along with an all new single  “fugitivos”, with another single "fall and bleed" out next year. The band goes into talks about their inspiration and influences, how they got their band name, where they come from and what the scene is like there. Down to furthering plans as far as shows and possibly touring!

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or did it come out just like that? 

Our name comes from an Argentinian blues rock band from the 70s called pescado rabioso, one of their songs has the name “post-crucifixion” We felt like it sounded cool and Cris suggested to be named like that we stuck with it because of our love for Spanish rock and because it fit the aesthetic 

2. Why did you want to play this genre? 

It’s the genre that we grew up listening to for example Alex grew up listening to AFI the cure joy division, depeche mode. While me and Cris listened to those bands as well and also Spanish rock bands from the 80s that had a gothic new wave band such as caifanes, los prisioneros, soda estéreo. We all have the same love for this kind of music and it reminds us of our culture. We just  love post punk. 

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed? 

I (Markus) met Cris at a random hardcore show in mesa Arizona. I spoke to him because he had a Daniel Johnston shirt and i never seen a person wearing that shirt. We talked about Daniel Johnston and music. And i saw his wallpaper and i saw he had  the cure. We then started talking about Spanish rock and our love for the 80s Spanish goth scene. Our friendship was always based in music and we also pretty much have the same brainrot humor. We both met Alex at one of our shows actually he came to see us because he was interested in finding goth bands from phoenix. At that point we were already a band with our ex drummer Jonathan and ex guitarist Anthony. He saw us at a show and we became friends. I thought he was cool from the beginning and we stayed in contact and then later on i asked him to join the band.

4. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend? 

We are based in Phoenix Arizona. Some locals we recommends are corbeau hangs, alex okami (Alex side project) Black tapestry, Paper foxes, Le Mal Archivo seis Rare Kreature.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs? 

What inspires us is to make music that we want to hear while also connecting with people we love to talk to people at shows we love music and it’s most important thing in the whole world Music keeps us together and it’s so amazing how you can connect and make friendships just by talking about music. It’s also really cool how Cris and I came to this country and we get experience being in a band and singing in our language.

6. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?) 

Our songs about specific themes about how we feel our songs are really emotional and if you have an opportunity to look at the lyrics I think the meanings are very personal.  It talks about experiences we lived and that other people could relate to.

7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.) 

We write our own songs 100% One of us might come with a lyric idea, riff, and then when we all meet we write the song. 

8. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We released our first album “el pasajero” written between 2023-24 Cris and I wrote all of the songs. The album really deals with personal emotions we feel. We also released two singles exploring different sounds close to death with more of an electronic darkwave sound and really a more post punk approach to it.

9. Do you have any new music in the works?

We do! Our new single “fugitivos” out now with another single out next year called “fall and bleed”. We are also working on our second album. 

10. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out? 

We have few shows in the beginning of the year and we would love to plan a tour possibly in spring. 

11. What plans do you have for the future as a band? 

The plan is to evolve always and just get better each time. We also want to travel to new cities and stay together.

Pop punks GOOD GRIEF have an album, a ton of singles, with an all new single out this next year! This Japanese band, has a lot to say about their creativity with music, influences, and plans to play shows everywhere real soon! The band discusses all of this below.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name—was it planned or spontaneous?

I named the band Good Grief without really knowing what the phrase meant at first. I wanted a name that felt like a mix of sadness and happiness. When I typed something like “良い哀しみ (good sadness)” into Google Translate, Good Grief popped up — and it just felt right.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We’ve always loved music that’s both heavy and emotional, but also melodic and joyful. Pop punk is one of the few genres that can capture both extremes in one song.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

No, not really. Good Grief started as more of a college band with my friends from my hometown. The current lineup came together a little later.

4. Where is the band based, and what’s your local music scene like? Any local bands you’d recommend?

We’re based in Tokyo. There are local shows happening everywhere — literally every town has a venue or two. You should definitely check out See You Smile, MIGHTY HOPE, LIKE A KID, and Winter Wakes — all amazing bands from the scene here.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Anything, really — favorite songs, good movies, anime, random thoughts.

6. What are your songs about?

I tend to write about my personal struggles a lot. That’s just how I feel most of the time, though it could change any day — and I’m open to that.

7. Do you write your own songs? What’s your songwriting process like?

Yes, we do. For Sad Station 2nd, we worked closely with two producers, Daihei and Ken. Daihei and I wrote most of the instrumentals together — we wanted to create a record that future generations of bands would want to write. It wasn’t about chasing trends, but rather imagining what might define the next twenty years of this genre.

Ken handled much of the lyrical arrangement and guided me to “write something so honest that you might not even want to sing it in front of people.” It hurts sometimes to perform those songs — but in a good, healing way.

8. What have you released so far, and what can people expect from your work?

We’ve released over 50 songs in the past nine years, including our latest album. I think our music shows that “sad boys” exist in Tokyo — they love pop punk here, and growing up in Japan gives that sound a whole new flavor.

9. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes! We’re planning to release a new single by next spring, along with some exciting announcements.

10. What about shows or touring? Any plans?

If you’re in Japan, come to our big show in Daikanyama on November 28th! We’re also aiming to do a U.S. tour in 2026.

11. What are your future plans as a band?

Thanks to social media, people outside Japan have started discovering our music. We want to visit as many of their cities as possible and play shows there.

Old school death metal act VICAR BLOOD out of Ohio, have released not one but five singles thus far, with a debut album expected next year! The band goes into discussion about their music content, plans for shows and touring!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Hello! We’re Vicar Blood, from Cleveland Ohio Based, and we play Down tuned death metal. Vicar Blood was formed in February 2025 by Dan Gates (guitarist) and Vieda Boss (vocalist). Dan posted a guitar riff on TikTok, and Vieda did a vocal duet with it. They decided to turn that into a song, and the rest is history. 

 2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The band's name, Vicar Blood, came from the VB logo Vieda was using for her musical stuff online, which stood for her initials. It also reflects her strong stance against religious tyranny and abuses of power.

3. How would you describe your style?

We're playing old school death metal with a modern twist. It's a blend of classic and modern death metal elements, and we're always looking to expand the genre. We draw inspiration from both the roots of death metal and the modern death metal/blackened death bands of today.

4. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have 5 singles out right now. We're taking some time off over the winter to focus on writing new material. Our album is scheduled for release in spring 2026, and we're recording it in downtown Cleveland with engineers, mixers, and recording personnel coming from LA.

5. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We have a special show planned for Vieda's birthday on December 19th at No Class in Cleveland, which is our hometown. We're also planning more regional shows and festivals in the future, so stay tuned for those announcements.

6. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

After the album comes out, we plan to release more singles and prepare for tour. We want to connect with our fans and spread our music as far as possible.

Progressive, psychedelic, metal rockers LAKE MARE have three single's under their belts, with a debut album ready to go! The band talks about how they came together, releasing music thus far, and what plans are ahead.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Not sure how much detail you want here.... Lake Mar/E, in its earliest conception, started when Stephen Bialkowski (guitars) and Eric Howerton (vocals) spent a month working on a few songs in 2017.  Shortly thereafter, Eric took a job several states away; rendering the project low priority.  Fast forward 5 years: I (Stephen) started working with Kris Bashaw (bassist) in another dead-end local band.  Kris was super excited about the Lake Mar/E material.  We looked and looked and looked for the right drummer for over a year.  When we finally flew Nick (drummer) out to UT; we had exactly 2 days to rehearse before our first show.  Nick killed it!  That's when we knew Nick was the right fit!  We have experimented with bringing on various support roles.  But it seems like the 4 of us are the core...at least for now.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Eric is a professor of creative writing at OSU; as well as a writer and film director.  He has a knack for naming things.  We couldn't decide whether we liked Lake Mare or Lake Mar better.  So we chose both (Lake Mar/E).  

As to what either mean: 

Lake ~ encompassing
Mare ~ dream/vision (e.g. night-mare)
Mar ~ aside from the obvious act of aggression, mar also alludes to lakes on the moon; which seemed fun and oddly half redundant

I forget the rest of the coffee talk...this was over 5 years ago . In a nutshell: captivating visions, unpredictable acts of surreal aggression, and space/time travel...I guess lol.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

The core of LM is in northern Utah.  Eric lives in OK.  Nick lives in AL. Shout out to Abysmal Embrace.  The kick solid ass.  But they are still working on their online presence.  

4. How would you describe your style?

In a word: loud lol

In several: rock/metal/progressive/psychedelic

In reality: it's in part a culmination of 10,000s of LPs; and in part an investigation in music theory. It’s about drawing from many corners of rock and metal history—punk ferocity, stoner grooves, psychedelic sprawl, death metal weight—then smashing them together into something that serves our emotional and intellectual directives; one song at a time.  

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have 3 singles on the streaming services.  Each serves a purpose different from the others.  So you won't hear the same song 3 times.  

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Oh god...yes.  We have an entire LP ready to record.  Stay tuned :)

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We (intend to) craft journeys; not statements.  Our musical structures are somewhat unconventional compared to most rock and metal.  If you are patient with our music, you will be rewarded for doing so...or so we have been told. :)

Powerhouse hard rockers COLD DROP have their debut album out for sometime now, along with some music videos, with them already hitting the studio to record and soon release all new songs, three in fact! Some shows are planned for this next year, with the band themselves, releasing far more music, getting themselves heard and seen as much as possible! The band discusses all of this below!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band Cold Drop was formed in 2017 where we started as a cover band that wanted to play cover music from the 80's Hard Rock style such as Whitesnake - Judas Priest - Mötley Crüe etc. but you quickly found out that we would probably rather play our own composed songs, and found a greater joy in playing, we thought we would see how far we could get with the music if anyone would listen to that style again as we stuck to 80's hard rock.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
   
One of the guitarists came up with the name Cold Drop, we looked up the name to see if there were other bands that had taken the name, and it wasn't, then we found out that the name was a Spanish phenomenon that they use for a weather phenomenon where it's a cold front they get, and it fit very well with what we had going on. interesting, and think it's like a storm coming.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Cold Drop is from Denmark and the live music scenes are very much based on rock pop as well as metal and thrash metal. There are some bigger bands here from Denmark that are a bit in the style we play, which is voldbeat - D.A.D. - Dizzy Miss Lizzy - Pretty Maids - King Dimond - Fate - The Reveonett - Mercyful Fate.

4. How would you describe your style?

We started up with 80`s hard rock style but now we are more like a power hard rock band and still melodic so that the audience can sing along, we have a kind of our style as we come from very different music styles ranging from 70`s glam to thrash metal.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

In 2022 we released our first album under the record label Lions Pride Music which can be found on various streaming platforms such as IMusic - Spotify etc. There are also some music videos which can be found on YouTube. Our music is powerful and lot of melodic and it’s great sound.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We have just been to Ant Farm Studios to record 3 new songs where we had Tue Madsen as producer we are initially releasing them ourselves and 1 song will come out at a time and then end up becoming an EP we have more songs we will record in 2026.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Our booker is working hard to get us out playing Live Show´s first of all, we're going on a small tour in Sweden and Norway from February 11th to 14th, and we're also looking into whether we can squeeze in some festivals both in Denmark and abroad. We're trying everywhere we can fit in. There are also plans for us to go to LA and Florida to do some radio interviews and play some club gigs in 2026, so we hope that many people will support us and come to the shows we might get on the calendar.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Our plans are to be seen and heard as much as possible and it is via radio stations and live gigs we are well underway with the social media to get them up to date we need to have made new music videos and have taken more pictures so that it can always be seen that we are active so that we can come out and play live. Our plans are to find a good company we could fit in well with and that they will work for us and that we could bring some bigger bands around as a support band.

Our first album is available on IMusic- Spotify- YouTube etc. We are now being played on over 1000 online radio stations worldwide.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time? 

That they hear something they think they recognize and then don't but that they think it sounds great and that they want us on their playlist and share their experiences; as they listen to their circle of friends it will spread the word so we were relieved that people; will come to hear us play live and see our show where they can go home with a fantastic experience.
