Northern Virginia metal/hardcore outfit, In Alcatraz 1962, have announced a two-month string of tour dates that will see the quintet traverse the U.S.

Beginning June 25 in Lehighton, PA, the band will hit the road with Float Face Down and The Last Ten Seconds of Life on a “Don’t Be A HaTour” run of dates before linking up with Legacy and This Romantic Tragedy for twenty-six shows from July 31 through August 31.

In June of 1962, on a tiny island isolated in the midst of San Francisco Bay, a daring breakout that had never been tried and had virtually no chance of succeeding was being planned. Four incarcerated criminals were orchestrating their escape from the world's most notorious prison.

Fast forward to 2005, In Alcatraz 1962 was formed by drummer Josh Zupovitz as an after school cover song jam session to escape the prison of boredom but once the band’s lethal chemistry was unleashed upon an unsuspecting public, they quickly sped ahead selling out shows and copies of their 5-song DREAM Ep, which brought them to the attention of Standby Records President Neil Sheehan.

Brandishing a blistering double-kick drum driven sound akin to Sepultura, Pantera and Bullet For My Valentine, the current In Alcatraz 1962 line-up includes vocalist Tyler Baldwin, guitarists Chris Smith and Danny Lapetina, bassist Jonathon Pentz and drummer Josh Zupovitz.

Before the summer onslaught commences, the group is holed up at Cleveland's Studio D Productions with producer Don DeBiase (Modern Day Escape, Beneath The Sky, For All Those Sleeping) putting the finishing touches on its punishing debut full-length record THE DRIVE, due October 9 via Standby Records.

Tracks from THE DRIVE include “Submergence,” “Stagnant,” “The Fatal Flaw,” “There To Take” and “Aspirations” which will make its track premiere on June 30 and be distributed as a free download.

Danny Lamagna of Suicide City and Sworn Enemy talks about his all new EP and event happening at Guitar Center. Word of Suicide City buzz is in the works along with even more mayhem that you don't even know existed.

1. You said you got a new EP out what can you tell me about it?

Danny: Yes. I have been working with scott from the band, from autumn to ashes, & Mike from Roger Miret & the disasters, under the name Emergency. We finished recording an EP a few weeks ago, its available for streaming at http://soundcloud.com/emergencyli. In addition, Sworn enemy have been writing material the last few months, and we actually started demoing a few things last week. 

2. This summer your going to be doing some drum clinics at Guitar Center what's that all about it and how did you get involved with that?

Danny: The clinics are every Thursday in July. I've been a music educator for years now. It's what I usually define myself as more so than a touring musician or writer. I started doing impromptu clinics and master class type of things while I was warming up at gigs. Other drummers or musicians would see what I was doing and ask questions. I'm a drum geek and always will share what I know with anyone who is interested. I've been studying music for over 15 years, I've amassed a great deal of knowledge and am still learning. The guitar center thing came about by pure luck and being at the right place at the right time. The new GM at the local one near me was there and I asked him what he though about holding a clinic, he asked for four! So now I've got a series of classes scheduled there for July. Drum workshop & Vater have sent over a bunch of things to give away and help promote, hopefully sabian will get behind us as well.

3. What's your connection with Emergency and Sworn Enemy?

Danny: Years ago I worked with Mike the singer of Emergency in various projects and hired session situations. We have been friends for years. We always try and hook up when we can, he had this band he was doing with Scott, and other mike, they were fishing for a drummer. My name came up and we had a meeting, I immediately was into it.The positivity, and genuine vibe I got from everyone was amazing. The right motives are behind that band. Music we would want to listen to. Its from the heart with those guys. Sworn Enemy, al has been my bud since 99. I've always looked forward to hanging with him when our paths crossed. When he lost his drummer a few years ago I auditioned and ended up playing with them for two tour cycles. Over the last year I've helped Sal rebuild the band by finding new musicians to play with, running tour budgets and making sure all the day to day business is being held up. We have a great unit right now. All guys I've known over the 10 year mark and have been involved with in other bands or tours/sessions. Everyone pulls their weight and are great people.

4. What about Suicide City is there any talk about new music?

Danny: Aj and I are always sending files back and forth to each other. Im not sure if there is any future in that band. I'd love to do some new music and play some shows. I'll tell you this much, this was the first year that everyone in the group has been communicating in a very long time. It seems we all have come to peace about the fall, and can be friendly with one another again. It feels good to see my brothers and sister be able to talk and enjoy all the great stuff we did and saw together. if it happened, it would be up to Jennifer, Karl and Billys schedules and desire to play again.

5. Who are some of your musical influences?

Danny: I love a lot of the early 90's stuff. Alice in Chains, Sound Garden, Nirvana, STP, I also am heavy into Guns N Roses, Fear Factory, Miles Davis and Avenged Sevenfold.

6. How about drummers who do you look up to the most and take inspiration from?

Danny: Now a days its been some of the people I've been lucky enough to know and follow closely. Danny Schuler of Biohazard, Yael, currently out with Ugly Kid Joe, Roy Mayorga of Stone Sour, and Mark from Taking Back Sunday. They all play like its the last show they are going to do. Its amazing to see the level they play on every night.

7. What are your dreams and goals?

Danny: I want to build the educational side of my life. With these clinics coming up, I hope to start building my roster of students back up. I also hope to branch out and do out of state and out of country clinics. I'd like to tour as a clinician the way I would in a band. I'd like to do a book and a dvd, finish my own batch of songs and have them released some how. Hopefully get that dream gig that pays all the bills and I lose myself in the music of. See my own bands get their music released and get back out on the road.


8. What do you think about downloading music online?

Danny: I buy my most of my music right off of iTunes these days. I don't use torrent sites or download anything illegally. Fact is, it is stealing. I don't steal. If I like something I'll buy it. As an artist I have to lead by example. If I'm going to be pissed about someone stealing my music, I best not steal theres.

9. What's your outlook on the record industry today?

Danny: I'm about to start dealing with labels soon, so I guess I'll see whats happening. I see a lot of smaller labels getting bigger acts and really working with them lc how I heard it was back in the day. Giant corporations do nothing but harm. Smaller companies are more liable and easily accessible. It might really be for the best when the industry finally stabilizes. Maybe big oil or pharmaceuticals will get their extinction event next.

10. Tell us a story about a day in your life.

Danny: Typical day. wake up around 6, do some kind of training, weight lifting, running, Insanity. Something first thing in the morning. Then I'll practice on the Marimba, Piano, guitar and drums, one hour each. After that I'll either teach in the afternoon or write some music. Evening are either spent in rehearsal or just relaxing at home. Sometimes there are one off gigs or sessions that interupt my schedule, but for the most part, thats a typical day for me.

11. What inspires you to do what you do?

Danny: The quest to express myself. I also have an obsession with the idea that theres a secret to learn that will make everything in life easy. Once its discovered anything can be possible. I'm searching for it. I'm pretty sire its latent inside of each of us, we just have been trained and programmed to not find it or answer to it.

12. What advice would you give to fellow bands?

Danny: Play from the heart. Talk about EVERYTHING. Always be kind to each other and don't let a small thing turn into a fight. If you have a great band, that people are into, just get along eight each other and do the leg work. Its the best thing in the world I've found so far.

13. How does music affect you and the world around you?

Danny: Music is the universal language. It is sacred. Having been able to study it and perform it has been an honor. Music is my emotional outlet, it allows me to say things I normally wouldn't be able to express. Playing the drums has transformed me physically, and the melodic instruments I play have changed my hearing. I believe I am way more sensitive and intuitive because of music.


14. What are the biggest obstacles for bands?

Danny: Getting along without a doubt. Success can be measured in so many different ways. Record sales, Sold out tours, making a demo or even playing a first gig. When bands start having internal issues it all goes to hell. The most successful band in the world would throw it away over nothing.

15. Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

Danny: The clinics are going to be great. I'll be showing off some new techniques and hopefully helping everyone that wants to develop them do so. In addition I'll be sharing some real world knowledge and how to use it. The Sworn Enemy dates are always fun. We are playing in July, Philly and Ct.

Kentucky's DEAD ICONS will kick off "The Lifer Tour" this Friday with Lionheart and Thick As Blood. The tour features some of the best of the current hardcore bands on the scene! The Dead Icons guys will be playing most of their new songs off the new Bullet Tooth album "Condemned".

Dead Icons bassist Stanley Sievers checked in to say, "We're very excited to be part of the "Lifer" tour with Lionheart and Thick As Blood!  The tour is going to a bunch of cities that we've played many times and it will be great to see our friends all over the country. Hopefully this tour will bring out people that have been listening to us for a while now and also allow our band to appeal to some fresh ears."

The warm, dry air of the Los Angeles basin continues its constant temperature, inviting art and progress for those who can stare through the plastic debauchery of its passing inhabitants.  Just underneath the surface, buried in a submarine-like state of creative metamorphosis, the four original members of electronic rock outfit SHINY TOY GUNS shape-shift in circles; building, cutting, carving and finishing an album they have spent the last three years of their lives in violent labor with. III, which marks the elated return of vocalist Carah Faye Charnow and the first new material by the original line-up in six years, will be released October 23 on Five Seven Music.  The lead single “Waiting Alone” made its debut yesterday, June 26 on Alternative Press’ site and is available now at iTunes and all other digital retailers.

III, the band’s third album features Carah Faye Charnow, the original vocalist who, along with band mates Chad Petree (vocals/guitars), Jeremy Dawson (keyboards) and Mikey Martin (drums), propelled SHINY TOY GUNS into the spotlight with their first hits “Le Disko” and “You Are The One” from their debut 2006 release We Are Pilots.  Production on III, courtesy of Mirror Machines (the band’s Petree and Dawson), is lush and dramatic, ranging from driving tracks like “Somewhere To Hide,” “Mercy” and “The Sun” to sublime like “Wait For Me” and “Fading Listening.”  The album is mixed by the legendary Tony Maserati (Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Jason Mraz).

Leading up to its release, parts of “Waiting Alone” has been selectively unveiled via “#loverunner,” an unbelievable journey filmed across 6,000 miles of the United States over the course of 25 days. One of the largest and most extensive projects SHINY TOY GUNS have ever attempted, “#loverunner” is the visual and video interpretation of “Waiting Alone.”  All the parts will come together as an artistic video presented in July.

Muse's brand new song "Survival" has been adopted as the official song of the 2012 Olympic Games that will take place in London this summer.  The track will make its radio premiere tonight and be available in iTunes around the world shortly thereafter.

"Survival" will be played throughout the sporting sessions in all London 2012 venues during the entire Games, when athletes enter the stadium, the lead up to the medal ceremonies and it will be made available for international broadcasters of the Olympic Ceremonies to use in their broadcasts.

The band appeared at the official London 2012 press conference today, launching the "Rock The Games" music program, which "Survival" is spearheading.

"It's a huge honor to have the track chosen as such a major part of the London 2012 Olympic Games," said Muse's Matt Bellamy.  I wrote it with the Games in mind as it expresses a sense of conviction and determination to win."

Muse is Matt Bellamy, Dominic Howard and Chris Wolstenholme.  Since forming in 1994, they have released five studio albums selling upwards of 15 million albums worldwide.  The group's last album "The Resistance" reached Number 1 in 19 countries around the world, and they have won numerous awards around the world including a Best Rock Album Grammy Award and an American Music Award for "The Resistance."   Muse will release their new studio album "THE 2ND LAW' in September and will tour the world in support of it.

UK-based modern thrash metal act, Sylosis, has issued a statement about the completion of its third studio album, Monolith, which is slated to release this summer via Nuclear Blast Records. Guitarist/vocalist, Josh Middleton, commented:

"Some people might not have expected us to come out with a new album so quickly, but we already had a few songs written for this album by the summer of 2010. We've spent as much time writing this album as any of the others and I think we're all the most proud we've ever been. ‘Monolith’ is the best representation of us as a band in terms of our diverse influences, and stylistically it's what we've always been aiming for. A mixture of thrash, big doomy riffs and dark atmospherics and ambience.

“Overall, ‘Monolith’ has a darker vibe to anything we've done in the past, both lyrically and musically. It's a concept album, which is just something I like to help guide me writing the lyrics. I like the fact that I can write about personal issues but dress them up in a way that people might not know exactly how they relate to me (if at all in some instances). The idea for the concept was very loosely inspired by the Greek tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. It's quite far-fetched but it's about this guy who loses his wife and tries to bring her back from underworld. This giant monolith starts to grow out of her tomb. The most prevalent theme beneath it all is sort of accepting that you might not be as nice a person as you once thought. It sounds really cheesy but everyone has a darker side to their personality in terms of being selfish, manipulative or dishonest. A lot of metal lyrics are always ‘you're this, you're that, you suck’  and in a lot of cases it's probably really hypocritical. Some of the lyrics on this album are about owning up to those flaws and almost reveling in it.

“Some parts of the album is us covering new ground but everything that people have come to love about our band is still present. It's not necessarily a change in direction or something we're moving more towards, it was just about making a unique vibe for this album as a whole. There's a real urgency to a lot of this material and the really natural and honest production helps mirror that. We really wanted more of a 'live session' feel. Both Romesh (Dodangoda - producer, mixer) and Jens (Bogren - mastering) have done a great job in giving this album a unique sound. Too many bands these days rely on technology and it can just suck all the life and personality out of the music."
