Stone Sea Talks of Evolution, Creativity And All New Music!
Heavy melody driven band STONE SEA have released an array of content, ranging from EPs, singles, and a couple of albums; a debut release and upcoming all new sophomore album out next year! The band also has plans to play some shows as well as evolving and creating as a unit. The band talks of all of this below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Stone Sea started as a project in Brazil, born from a natural urge to express my emotions in a different way — a kind of transmutation, a metamorphosis that happens from the inside out. Later, I moved to Ireland, where the sound matured — blending heavy riffs, groove, and a touch of world music. Nowadays, we’re based in Spain, with Gonzalo Rubio on drums and Pino López on bass. Each phase and country reshaped the sound, but the core remained the same: emotion, heaviness, and groove. Gonzalo has been very active musically — he played for 13 years in a Nirvana tribute band called Buzz Lovers, performing internationally. Pino, on the other hand, comes from an extreme metal background and is also a DJ besides being our bassist.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
I’ve always liked contrasts — even musically — so I wanted something that sounded cool but also represented how we feel and sound. “Stone” stands for the weight, the riffs, the earthy side. “Sea” represents the flow, melody, and introspection. Together they capture the balance I’m always chasing, in both music and life.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We’re based in Spain, around Málaga. The scene here is small but full of creativity bubbling under the surface. You’ll find great alternative rock acts with unique flavours if you look for them. I’d definitely recommend checking out Red Eye and Plastic Woods— both carry a special Andalusian heaviness in their sound.
4. How would you describe your style?
It’s heavy, melody-driven, and a bit unpredictable. Imagine Black Sabbath meeting Nirvana, with hints of world music and bluesy textures. I honestly hate describing our style — it never seems to cover all the songs (laughs).
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We’ve released a few EPs and albums over the years, each one like a time capsule of where I was emotionally and geographically. From our upcoming album Ad Astra, the latest single “Age of Tears” is probably our heaviest and most introspective so far — it moves from fragile acoustic moments to cathartic, crushing riffs. The next single, “Left to Be,” brings a grungier and more optimistic vibe, closing out the year on a higher note.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Yes! We’re currently releasing Ad Astra single by single, with the full album planned for early 2026. At the same time, we’ve already started composing new songs that we hope to record very soon.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Absolutely. We’re playing a release show for “Left to Be” on December 12th at Louie Louie in Estepona, Málaga. We’re also planning more gigs around Spain and southern Europe, plus a live studio session that we’re really looking forward to.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
To keep evolving and creating. The goal is to bring our songs to as many places as possible and connect with people who resonate with what we do. Composing is how I deal with emotions — so if our music resonates with others, it makes the whole craft worthwhile.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
That feeling of weight and release at the same time. Our songs move between heaviness and melody, chaos and calm. If someone listens and feels a trance of some sort, that’s what we’re aiming for.
