PATHOLOGY finally makes their deadly return in 2017! This San Diego trio has come back home to Comatose Music for the release of their ninth studio album simply titled ‘Pathology’. Over two years of tenacious effort went into the creation of this self-titled album which can be described as their most superior work to date. Composed of murderous guitar riffs and a skillful drum performance chock full of grooves and blasts, topped off with filthy guttural vocals spewed forth by death metal legend Matti Way. Devastating brutal death metal unit PATHOLOGY have gone from strength to strength, incorporating variations and technical flourishes within the ultra-heavy framework of the sub-genre. San Diego’s death metal outfit, PATHOLOGY have revealed the cover art and announced that their new album will be, The Time Of Great Purification, out September 25, 2012.
           
PATHOLOGY is wrapping up their time in the studio with Daniel Castleman and Lambesis Studios on their third Victory Records release. “This is definitely our heaviest and most technical album to date”, states drummer Dave Astor.  The upcoming release features artwork by Par Olofsson, creator of the cover art for their last two albums, Legacy Of The Ancients (7/06/10) and Awaken To The Suffering (9/13/11). The concept is simple: the Doctor is controlling the 2012 apocalypse and destroying the world!

PATHOLOGY is gearing up for a twenty-six city headlining run on the "Slaughter Survivors Tour" with Enfold Darkness, Fallujah, Fit For An Autopsy and Aegaeon. San Diego’s PATHOLOGY announces headlining tour dates and future recording plans. Touring junkies PATHOLOGY have announced their headlining tour dates for THE SLAUGHTER SURVIVORS TOUR SUMMER 2012. Drummer, Dave Astor stated, “We're excited to announce our next US run later this summer as part of the Slaughter Survivors Tour. This is going be to be a great run of dates with some cool, young bands. We're please to lead the way." Check out the tour dates HERE.

PATHOLOGY is currently on tour melting faces off the masses with the legendary band, DESTRUCTION and will head to the studio at the end of June to record their third Victory Records album. Daniel Castleman of Lambesis Studios, out of San Diego, will be at the helm of this recording process once again. The album is slated to be released October, 2012.

Iconic German thrash trio, Destruction, will kick off its North American 30th Year Anniversary Tour this weekend with shared direct supportfrom Vital Remains and Warbringer (who will be alternating each night) plus Pathology. An updated list of all the confirmed shows can be seen below.

Commented Destruction frontman and bassist, Schmier, “A killer package for old-school thrash and death metal freaks! This may be the best set list we’ve ever had – the essence of thrash metal history united with our new anthems. We’ll have more classics than ever in the set, more from the first records for sure. Can’t wait to hit the road again!!! Some North American cities have a great audience for this old school sound again, and it wasn’t always like that. The main intention for this second North American tour within a year is that wecould not play all markets that we wanted to book last time. Now, we’ll play some new places and return to those cities that gave us a great welcome last year like New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Montreal. Warbringer are a perfect match to a Destruction bill. They are one of the best new thrash bands and keep our ‘80s spirit alive. It will be great to have them with us! We’ve played with Vital Remains before; awesome guys and a brutal band. They bring a good variety into the billing. Earlier this year, San Diego’s brutal death metal/slam outfit Pathology completed a successful 3-week west coast headlining tour that also went down into Mexico for 4 shows.

“Our west coast tour was fun and successful,” states drummer Dave Astor. “We really got to play some smaller markets on the run and I was happy to see some old and new fans come out, especially to some of these more rural areas that we’ve never played. Hopefully we can do this as intensive west coast run once a year.”

Next on the band’s agenda is more touring, in support of last fall’s Awaken to the Suffering album. Pathology took the initiative of doing headlining shows leading to a request for a slightly different type of tour this April with Rose Funeral and The World We Knew, getting into some alternative venues on the east coast and Midwest.


“I’m excited for this,” continues Dave. “We’ve been proud to tour with some of our influences but we also know our band appeals to a different and younger audience so we’ll be bringing some brutal, slamming death metal to these shows.”

In addition, in May Pathology will be back out with a full US and Canadian tour opening for the legendary Destruction, with a package rounded out by Warbringer and Vital Remains.


“We’re very excited to do the Destruction tour. Again, it’s a different kind of tour but it features a nice mix of old and new thrash and death metal. We’ll play in front of a crowd who may be unfamiliar with Pathology but we look forward to making a strong impact and earning some new fans and having a great time out there,” comments Dave.

German thrash metal veterans DESTRUCTION will embark on the North American "30th Year Anniversary Tour" in May with support from WARBRINGER, VITAL REMAINS and PATHOLOGY. DESTRUCTION states, "Thrash metal history comes alive with classic hits and anthems!"

The exact cities and dates for the "30th Year Anniversary Tour" will be announced soon.

DESTRUCTION has commenced work on its 30th-anniversary album. The CD is due later in the year.

Inspired by IRON MAIDEN, MERCYFUL FATE, MOTÖRHEAD and VENOM, DESTRUCTION was formed as KNIGHT OF DEMON in 1982. The band's original lineup included vocalist and bassist Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer, drummer Tommy Sandmann, and guitarist Mike Sifringer. They soon changed their name to DESTRUCTION and released a demo titled "Bestial Invasion Of Hell" in 1984.

"Day Of Reckoning", the latest album from DESTRUCTION, sold around 800 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 58 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Day Of Reckoning" entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 95. The CD was released in Europe on February 18, 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records. The first limited edition of the album did not feature the band's logo on the booklet while the vinyl version and second pressing of the CD showed a red DESTRUCTION logo on it.

"Day Of Reckoning" was the first album to feature DESTRUCTION's new drummer Vaaver (INDUKTI, ex-UNSUN).

Pathology's guitarist Kevin Schwartz gives me the rundown of the band's most recent album "Awaken To The Suffering" relased via Victory Records. Not only have these guys released an all new record but have been hitting the road various times this past year. Find out what they have been up since the album's drop day.


1. "Awaken To The Suffering" who would want to awaken to such a misfortune?

Kevin: People who want to open their mind to true death metal and the bleak outlook of this society and the human race. It's all about breaking the mold of the mainstream and creating something that is raw, powerful, and unique. Time to open your fucking eyes!

2. What about the concept, what is the story behind this release and where does the title come into the picture?

Kevin: The lyrics that Jon wrote are very misanthropic. The human race is raping the Earth and the government is controlling our minds. We are cowering beneath the system just as the man is on the cover of the album.

3. So apparently you have a lot to say about this release, go at it.

Kevin: This is the best Pathology album to date. We recorded to a metronome so everything is tight. Our producer, Daniel Castleman, new from the beginning that we were looking to make the most brutal and crushing album of the year and he exceeded our expectations with his production. I had the oppurtunity to write solos for this album and proceeded to create leads that were not only fast and technical, but also contained feeling and emotion.

4. Tell me about the new music video you shot, what is the tale behind that creation?


Kevin: Victory Records took charge and created a video that is different than most videos of the same genre. We didn't have any roles in the video, it was up to the video producers at Victory to make the video and make our album art come to life so to speak.

5. Would you say that this album traits back to the first releases, as far as sound and lyrical context goes?

Kevin: Definitely. The lyrics are very cynical towards the human race and the guitars and drums are just as crushing as they always have been.

6. How would you describe the overall sound of the new album? How does it compare to Legacy Of The Ancients?

Kevin: "Awaken To The Suffering" blows "Legacy of The Ancients" away. The riffs are more technical and recorded much cleaner. The guitar and drum tones are heavier than ever. And the vocals are more raw and guttural than most bands out there.

7. Looking back at your previous work, it looks like your a summer/fall band whenever you release a new album, it always pops up in either the summer or fall, ever take notice of that?

Kevin: Yes, we want to keep the band active and keep people interested by releasing an album every year.


8. Did the band have any definitive goals they were shooting for before the recording process began for this album?

Kevin: We wanted to keep pushing the limits of Pathology. Every album had gotten better and better each time with the recording, riff writing, and production, so we want to keep that going.

9. Are you using any new instrumentation you've never used in the recording process before?

Kevin: All guitar, bass and, drums are the same as previous albums. Solos are the new addition to Pathology, which I am extremely happy about. There aren't many leads in brutal death bands and I have no idea why...

10. When did you start writing for this album? How was the songwriting process different/similar to previous Pathology albums?

Kevin: Tim and I began writing the album while we were in Europe with Obituary and Grave for the Metal Chainsaw Massacre Tour. The process was similar to the other Pathology albums, material was written at our respective houses and then we got together with Dave to write our songs. Until now there had only been Tim on guitar and we didn't collaborate on any songs on this album, so the writing process stayed the same.

11. Legacy Of The Ancients was a sizable critical success. Did you feel any pressure to follow it up?

Kevin: I knew I had some shoes to fill when I first joined Pathology. Legacy of The Ancients is a solid album, but I felt like I could bring a more technical edge to the band while also sticking to the groovy and grindy element that had always been there.

12. Can you go into one or two tracks on the new album? If so, can you give us the track title and brief description of how the track sounds and how it came about?

Kevin: "Ingestion of Creation", is a song that I wrote for the album. It combines the slam and groove elements that Pathology is known for, but also ties in a little more technicality and scale use. I used many chromatic notes to stay with the feel of Pathology but use dimished scales on certain parts to give it more feeling. I was listening to a lot of Suffocation at the time and I believe that is where the guitar break in the middle of the song came from. When Dave was writing drums to this song he actually reffered to that part as the "Suffo break".

13. How was the vibe in the studio?

Kevin: Let me start by saying Daniel Castleman is the shit! He was a big help with the process of the recording and made sure everything went smoothly during the entire process. I was expecting it to be very nerve-racking in the studio but Daniel created an easy-going environment that allowed us to perform at our very best.

14. Stepping aside from the new record, you just got done hitting the road with Grave and Blood Red Throne, what's running through your mind?

Kevin: We just completed the tour with Grave, Blood Red Throne, and Gigan. One of the most fun tours I have ever been on! We already knew our Swedish brothers when we toured with them in Europe so it was killer to catch up with them. Gigan and Blood Red Throne are very cool and down to earth types of people, so we mesh very well with both of them. One of the sickest things about the tour was that Trevor Peres and Terry Butler of Obituary were hanging out the entire time! Trevor was the tour manager and Terry was driving Grave all around the U.S. in the RV they rented. And I can't leave out my man Ralph Santolla, who met up with us in Seattle until the end of the tour and proceeded to drink all of our beer.

15. Is that all of the touring as far as the remainder of this year or do you plan to tour rounding off the year and then jump starting again in the New Year?

Kevin: You can catch us on the East coast with Vital Remains toward the end of October. Next year we will continue our grueling tour schedule as we try to promote the new album and keep brutal music alive.

16. What does Pathology mean to you?

Kevin: Pathology is an outlet for me to express my musical ability and show my disgust for the mainstream music that is plaguing the ears of humanity. It is my oppurtunity to create music that is completely unique and not based on trends. Fuck the mainstream.

Pathology's "Awaken To The Suffering" is surly no "Legacy Of The Ancients" the band's 2010 release with original vocalist Matti Way was soon replaced by Jonathan Huber who formerly was with I Declare War. But now that the past is indeed behind them, Pathology has set their minds forward with their fifth LP "Awaken To The Suffering". This release lead them to enter the Lambesis Studios with producer Daniel Castleman who's worked with such acts as Impending Doom, Winds Of Plague, and As I Lay Dying, to begin work on this album the ending results......

Are flawless to say the least, vocals are deep and possessive with some funny outer hits that are pure laughable. While the guitar and drum work is heavy duty quality that never seems to quit. The songs are packed full of catchy upbeat yet progressive amounts of energy that maintains the tempos just enough to keep the music at a flowing static force. A noticeable pattern put into effect here is the constant use of blast beats that can be heard quite a bit in such songs as, "Ingestion Of Creation", "Society's Desolation", "A Perverse Existence", and "Festering In Filth". The music is constantly moving keeping the growls in check that makes the abilities front and center.

This is indeed a step up from their previous releases by a far, surly showcasing a brutalizing force that will never cease to exist.

2010 was not the year for San Diego's Pathology. It did see success for them to release their fourth LP "Legacy of the Ancients" from Victory Records but the band had gone through a rotation of fill-in singers plus a horrible van accident what more can these guys take? Well since that tragic year the band has pushed forward replacing original vocalist Matti Way who was unable to tour with the band and brought in Jonathan Huber formerly of I Declare War to take over as Pathology's new main frontman. Jonathan spoke to me about his arrival to the band, current look out for what’s up next as far as touring and how this current tour went for the band overall.

1. By the end of this week your time with Deicide will come to an end. How was the tour overall?

Jonathan: It went really well and everyone had a good time. We got to meet a lot of people and bands and the styles they choose to use. I think everyone brought their own style really - it was an awesome opportunity to tour alongside bands like Belphegor and Deicide especially. They’re both great bands there are bands at times that play better than others but hopefully we turned some heads for those who may not have heard of us before. So overall it was a good run.

2. Then two weeks later you will be in Europe. Will it be your first time out there? Do you plan to check out all the famous sights it has to offer?

Jonathan: It’ll be my first time over there. I have never gone to Europe before so I think it will be an amazing experience. We’re going to be sharing a bus with the other bands that are on the tour so it’ll be some time to chill out and relax. On this tour we had a lot of driving time up to 16-20 hours so having a driver and a bus will be better for us. Hopefully Europe will take what we have to offer and dig what they hear.

3. So why the name Pathology? What's the story behind a name like that?

Jonathan: Well I’m new to the band. Our drummer Dave came up with the name and he thought it was very gory and fit the direction of the band well.

4. You're now a part of the Victory Records Family how does that make you feel?

Jonathan: It’s awesome. I grew up listening to a lot of bands that got to be on Victory Records and for us to be on it makes us stand out. I think in certain ways it plays in our favor but it all depends on how we look at it. Hopefully we continue to do well and in return they will continue to help us out and it will all even out for the better.

5. "Legacy of the Ancients", is your fourth full-length album are you guys in writing mode for the follow-up?

Jonathan: Once we get back from Europe we’ll begin writing and working on the next album. It will have darker content and we’ll be stepping it up as far as brutality goes. There will be more of a dark black metal element added to the mix along with more guitar leads and we’ll see where it goes from there.

6. When did you join the band and how are you adjusting? Are the other guys treating you like family?

Jonathan: I feel like I fit in really well with the band actually. A lot of guttural vocalists tend to not want to move around a lot during performances but I do it all and try to being a more energetic show to the crowd. It gives the rest of the band more willingness to be more energetic themselves and step it up a lot more. I came to be in the band by trying out and sending emails back and forth to Dave. I thought I wasn’t going to even be in this band until a month later I got word and we continued to exchange material back and forth and then they asked me to come out to San Diego. So I came out and tried out and it took off from there.

7. What about this year what else can we expect from you guys?

Jonathan: We’ll be doing this tour out in Europe and then I’ll be going home to Seattle and the rest of the guys will be heading home to San Diego and we’re all just going to be writing and recording and hit the studio in June. Then hopefully go out on tour come August and September getting a chance to play some Canadian dates as well.

8. Is that your final answer?

Jonathan: Yes that’s my final answer. Just be on the lookout for the new stuff and hopefully people will continue to follow the band and see what we have to offer in the future.

Who hasn’t heard let alone been to the world famous Whisky a Go Go? It’s home to its makers Motley Crue among others but though its known for  its heavy metal business just up the street is another venue dishing out the heavy metal goodness the Key Club. God Is Dead - To Hell with God Tour was just finishing up its rounds since its conclusion was drawing to a close later this week. This tour itself was delivering a course of various metal genres that would satisfy even the pickiest of metal heads. It offered Pathology, Neuraxis, Blackguard, Belphegor, and Deicide.

Now this line is quite the mix-up getting the night to a heavy start was Pathology who recently replaced their singer Matti Way, with vocalist Johathan Huber, (I Declare War), the band has seen better days and moved forward with continuing their love of performing and making music. Frontman Johathan Huber has taken his chances on this new role and has managed to pull it off quite well. Pathology’s heavy duty presents really builds up the crowd’s energy pulsing loud blaring guitars with fast rushing drum beats that keeps the music rotating non-stop.

PATHOLOGY:





Now Blackguard who’s been known to play alongside the power metal genre had stepped down from their normal routine and taken a chance a whole another crowd and the crowd ate them up spitting them right back out. These melodic death metallers portray a power metal style when it comes to their earlier works "So It Begins" (2007) and "Profugus Mortis" (2009) but their next release 'Firefight" (March 29) that consists of a much heavier style sense than this older rubbish. With that said, Blackguard has fast guitars with deep guttural growls that keeps the music in motion as such the band went on to do a “tornado of death” which is a combination of the “wall of death” with a “circle pit” so in other words just picture a tornado and then having it ripped down the middle then clashing together like a giant tidal wave, minus the water of course except fill it with rowdy metal heads ready to knock your block off.

BLACKGUARD:






So that leaves Belphegor and Deicide remaining. Now these two acts have engulfed themselves with the context of Satanism, witchcraft, bondage, hatred towards God you know the “typical” everyday material you’d come across in your daily route of life. Belphegor erupted the stage with their own material of hatred filling the crowd with chanting riots of “hails and horns” breaking into a mosh pit frenzy. Now was the time for Deicide a band who’s been around for 24 years will continue to cause such a ruckus God himself could not even risk trying to stop them. For Deicide worship another being they like to call Satan. Frontman Glen Benton who’s known for branding the upside down crucifix onto his forehead is quite good at his abilities of vocals and bass performance. The crowd on the other hand was aroused with anticipation at Glen’s appearance let alone his band mates as they broke out into a non-stop night of mosh pitting rapture that caused people to slip and slide every few seconds. Other fans jumped at the chance of surfing atop the crowd to get upon the stage while then being snatched up by the security guards and carried off the stage. Some were lucky enough to get away with that while some managed to leap for their life into the sea of people dressed in black.

DEICIDE:








The God Is Dead- To Hell With God Tour was quite the crowd pleaser gaining much approval from all in attendance.

Who hasn’t heard let alone been to the world famous Whisky a Go Go? It’s home to its makers Motley Crue among others but though its known for  its heavy metal business just up the street is another venue dishing out the heavy metal goodness the Key Club. God Is Dead - To Hell with God Tour was just finishing up its rounds since its conclusion was drawing to a close later this week. This tour itself was delivering a course of various metal genres that would satisfy even the pickiest of metal heads. It offered Pathology, Neuraxis, Blackguard, Belphegor, and Deicide.

Now this line is quite the mix-up getting the night to a heavy start was Pathology who recently replaced their singer Matti Way, with vocalist Johathan Huber, (I Declare War), the band has seen better days and moved forward with continuing their love of performing and making music. Frontman Johathan Huber has taken his chances on this new role and has managed to pull it off quite well. Pathology’s heavy duty presents really builds up the crowd’s energy pulsing loud blaring guitars with fast rushing drum beats that keeps the music rotating non-stop.

PATHOLOGY:





Now Blackguard who’s been known to play alongside the power metal genre had stepped down from their normal routine and taken a chance a whole another crowd and the crowd ate them up spitting them right back out. These melodic death metallers portray a power metal style when it comes to their earlier works "So It Begins" (2007) and "Profugus Mortis" (2009) but their next release 'Firefight" (March 29) that consists of a much heavier style sense than this older rubbish. With that said, Blackguard has fast guitars with deep guttural growls that keeps the music in motion as such the band went on to do a “tornado of death” which is a combination of the “wall of death” with a “circle pit” so in other words just picture a tornado and then having it ripped down the middle then clashing together like a giant tidal wave, minus the water of course except fill it with rowdy metal heads ready to knock your block off.

BLACKGUARD:






So that leaves Belphegor and Deicide remaining. Now these two acts have engulfed themselves with the context of Satanism, witchcraft, bondage, hatred towards God you know the “typical” everyday material you’d come across in your daily route of life. Belphegor erupted the stage with their own material of hatred filling the crowd with chanting riots of “hails and horns” breaking into a mosh pit frenzy.
