Fusion new wave, synth pop artist KLINE got his start with music as a kid. Ever since then, he has evolved as an artist, and hopes to one day get other people involved with this project. He has a current single out titled "Revenge" which is a cover by the band Ministry. More cover songs are on the way, with a few other tracks in the works as well. No plans for any live shows for now, but new music is coming and a bigger work aspect for him to build himself, his audience, and finding people who will enjoy his music. Check out the chat we had below.
1. Please tell us about the history of why you got into music, are you an artist or is this a band project?
I first got into music when I was a kid and found my dad’s Guns N Roses cassette tapes. He bought me a guitar the next Christmas, and that changed the trajectory of my life in the most profound way imaginable. Currently, this project is just me. I do hope to involve other people in KLINE at some point in the future though.
2. What’s the origin of the name KLINE, does it have a meaning behind it?
KLINE is just a stylized version of my middle name (Klein). As a kid, I always thought my middle name was cool and even tried to convince my friends to call me that at one point. They didn’t go for it. There’s not really any meaning behind it, I just like the way it looks and sounds and that it represents me and my identity, which is the core of what I’m doing.
3. Where are you based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local acts you could recommend?
I’m currently living in south Mississippi. The music scene here isn’t as active as it once was, but a few good bands I’ve come across here are: Funeral Date (post punk), Year of the Vulture (Metal), and Nighdrator (Metal).
4. How would you describe your style?
This question can be tricky. In the goth subculture, people take genres very seriously. I often make the half hearted pitch that “I make dark, 80s inspired music for exhausted goths.” I guess a safe answer would be a fusion of new wave and synth pop. Vocally, I’ve been compared to The Cure, Depeche Mode, and Tears for Fears.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
As of this writing, I only have one song out. That’s “Revenge” (Ministry cover). I have another cover dropping on August 1st. It’s a massively popular pop song from the early 2010s, so it was a lot of fun turning that into a more gothic sound.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
I have a few tracks that are works in progress. After my August release, I’ll probably do one, maybe two, more covers before I start putting out originals.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
For now, I am not doing live shows. I hope to one day perform live, but for now I’m focused on building both my catalog and my following. If things continue to progress as they are now, I could see doing live shows in 2026. It’s really just too soon to say, at the moment.
8. What plans do you have for the future as far as this next year goes?
The plan is to release new music consistently and work on building my audience and finding my people. The most important goal, though, is to have fun and be true to myself.
9. Where can we listen to your music and where can we buy your stuff?
My music is available on all major platforms.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
I don’t want people to remember anything specifically. I just want them to enjoy what I’m doing and have a good time. If I can bring some amount of joy to someone in the form of music, I’ve understood the assignment. Although, I do enjoy when people compliment my voice. I’ve always been really insecure about my voice, so that’s probably one of the best feeling compliments I can get.
