Ideal Horizon Discussed New Music, Shows, All to Come this Year!

Alternative rockers IDEAL HORIZON have released a few singles, debut EP with all new music expected this year! A few of the band members discussed how they came to be, their style of music, lyrical context, and plans ahead for this year!

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We thought long and hard about our band name. It took us about 8 months actually. We wanted something that would embody our journey as musicians - going through this journey feeling like we’re in the dark just looking for hope. An Ideal Horizon is basically the scientific term for where you’d look for a sunrise…which brings the hope of a new day.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

This genre has always resonated with us. Our favorite bands play this kind of music. The energy, the passion…the raw emotion. We love everything about alt rock.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Bryson (bass) and Keith (drums) knew each other form a previous band and connected with Renee (vocals) and Dom (guitar) through Facebook.

4. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We’re based in Salt Lake City, Utah. The music scene here is a lot of fun. There’s a ton of talent and a good amount of variety. Some of our favorite bands are Victory Lungs, Down River, and Lonely Heights.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I write about my personal life. Sometimes it is a dramatized version of my experiences, but they are all inspired by life events, stages of life or people. I have written about life through college years, young adult life, breakups, finding love, friends & family drama, and finding myself. - Renee

6. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

So far, the theme for Ideal Horizon songs has been self reflection. This period of my life has been eye opening to both good and bad realizations. Our EPs major themes are perseverance, depression, self acceptance, independence, and love. - Renee

7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

I write my own lyrics and vocal melodies. However, we compose our songs as a group. We usually start with a guitar riff and then build from there. Sometimes we make the entire song without any vocals or melody in mind and sometimes we craft it all as we go along. - Renee

8. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

So far we’ve released a few singles and our debut EP “185” which can all be found on all streaming platforms. To sum up what you could expect from our music…passion, energy, and vulnerability.

9. Do you have any new music in the works?

We’re writing some new things and have plans to release some new music this year!

10. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Right now we’ve got 2 shows booked for the rest of the year. We’re working on planning something in Los Angeles towards the end of the year though…stay tuned!

11. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

The goal is to make this a career. Everything we do is geared towards that end. In the short term…probably a tour in 2026. Stay tuned for that!

12. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can find our music on all music platforms. Just search for Ideal Horizon. For merch use this link: https://ideal-horizon.printify.me/category/all/1.
