The Golden Leaves Says Lots On Music, Themselves, and the Plans Ahead

Rockers THE GOLDEN LEAVES have released a few songs, with one EP as well, with an album underway too! With the band playing on and off, the band has plans to find things to get themselves settled in, so they can continue to rock onward! The band says lots more about themselves and their music as well.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

David, the singer had a dream of being a rock star, so he met up with the two best guitarists he knew. Torleiv and Javier were easy to ask, but a drummer and a bassist was harder to come by. After a couple attempts we ended up with Christian behind the drum kit, he had played in a metal band so we had to calm him a bit. Arthur had to buy a bass guitar and re-school himself in order to join the rest of us. Now he’s a decent bass player, at least we say so, cause no one else wants to be a bassist, right? I think it was a week after forming Arctic Fox Recordings showed their interest, we didn’t even have a proper demo.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

While there was a lot of good name suggestions before we landed on The Golden Leaves, there was also a lot of bad ones. We went from Royal Sons which would have been an embarrassing mix of two of the coolest bands there are, so Torleiv suggested Free Booze and Mary Johanna. We finally agreed that Javiers The Golden Leaves was better than all of the other names and just went for it.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We’re based in Trondheim, Norway. The music scene here is flourishing, a lot of good rock bands but also other genres. I want to mention hundreds but instead I’ll point you to our playlist «Secret Gems» were we put mostly nordic bands in. You could get frustrated listening to them and learn that they only have 50 other fans, they deserve 5000. This said with one exception, Combos, they’re assholes.

4. How would you describe your style?

That’s a hard one. We agreed to play rock and not to limit us anymore than that. You can listen to our songs and find that they are very different but I think (and hope) you can still hear that it’s us and anyone else. For the latest single «Rebel» we mix a brit rock feel with some of the Norwegian garage, I think it works pretty good.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

For now there has been released seven songs in total, among them one EP. You could expect to get at least one of them stuck in your head.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We are releasing an album in about a month from now, so yes absolutely. Follow us on Spotify, YouTube or whatever streaming service you like.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We have been playing a bit in Norway and since our fan base is mostly centered here we don’t want to stop. The UK has also been very positive to our music and we really want to make friends over there as well. Not to mention the rest of the world, but we will have to choose wisely. Playing in a band is hard work and doesn’t pay well, we hope we can come with some good news here soon. Stay posted.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Our dear drummer took the worst decision ever and went to Poland to study medicine. That puts us in a tricky position where we had to find a new drummer. Esten from Kings of The Valley is joining us for the first time this Sunday and we hope to get tight with him. Then we’re eager to show the world our music and play shows as mentioned, writing new material and having fun.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You could stream us about anywhere; Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Deezer, Amazon, Soundcloud or Tidal. We are currently setting up a website and printing up sweet TGL-merch. If you want to know the exact date this is available you should most likely follow us on Instagram or Facebook. If you don’t have neither you could send us an e-mail thegoldenleavesband@gmail.com.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

That our music is fantastic you just want to lick our arm pits.
