Kaleido Engulfs the Experience

Detroit, Michigan go getters Kaleido, have come from the city of some of the most iconic artists within the music scene, ranging from Alice Cooper, to Eminem, among others. That said, the band has been creating a place for themselves upon the music staple that is this music scene and its industry. Thus they have gone on to write and record for their newest and latest album to date "Experience". In fact the band got together to discuss this "Experience" and what their future holds.

1. Kaleido is the band's namesake, but why is that? Does the name represent a meaning or is it just a name?

Christina Chriss (Lead Singer): Kaleido means a lot to me. We live in a Kaleidoscopic world, collecting experiences along the way, and that's really what Kaleido represents. Life. The journey. The worth of a Kaleidoscope is what's inside, much like us as people - unique, special and ever-changing.

2. What has influenced your sound and style?

Christina Chriss: Being "under the influence" LOL ... seriously though my love of a very diverse array of musical genres and artists. Performing. Spontaneity, individuality, touring and learning from some of the most talented musicians I've had the privilege to know. The guys in my band as we've all grown together.

3. What are your songs about?

Christina Chriss: The songs are about my life, my experiences, my thoughts and my outlook. Also about others that have impacted my life. Especially on the new album Experience I believe there's something for everyone. The themes throughout are very relatable. I love to talk about the good times, the party, but it's often times the lows in life that have really shaped me as a person, and I think that's important to bring that out in the music. For example on Experience "Blue Collar Delight" & "On One" are really party, good vibe jams. "Balcony" "The End" "Love & War" talk about some of the darker points in life that you must rise above.

4. Since you write your own songs - please discuss the band's songwriting process in detail.

Christina Chriss: When it comes to writing, we kind of just let it flow how it wants to flow. Sometimes lyrics and melody spark the song, other times a riff is brought to the table and we shape the song around it. Everyone in the band writes on their own individually and as a collective unit as well so whatever we're feeling, we just let it come together.

5. How do you describe your music to people?

Christina Chriss: Female fronted, High energy rock!! We're fond of the Guns N Roses meets No Doubt comparison. Roll the windows down in your car, turn it up to 10 and jam!

6. What image(s) do you think your music conveys?

Ronnie Rosolino (Rhythm Guitar): A Kaleidoscope. All of our energies blending into one to create Kaleido, like the pieces in a Kaleidoscope that come together to make one big picture.

7. You will soon be releasing your new album "Experience" - can you tell me a little bit about it?  .

Christina Chriss: We wrote and recorded the album Experience over the course of about 2 years. We really wanted to take our time and capture the magic we have when we're on stage together performing. It's not always easy to do that in the studio, so we kept that in the forefront of our minds while working on the record. We self produced it, along with Nick Morris and Josh Dillon at The Pipeyard in Plymouth, MI. We had been recording all over LA working with another producer, and it just wasn't the right fit. It felt good to be comfortable with the people we we working with and the place we were working at, and also to know that they "got it" and understood us and the music.

8. What is the concept behind the album and how did the idea come about?

Joey Fava (Drums): A collection of songs that tell the stories of the experiences we've gone through since forming Kaleido. It naturally fell into place as we were writing and recording the songs.

9. What is your favorite song on the record and why?

Christina Chriss: I can't pick just one favorite!!! It's like asking someone to choose their favorite kid or something!? I love them all for what they are and what they stand for. Each one is a little piece of me.

10. What can fans expect from the new album?  How is it different from your previous releases Kaleido (2012) and Unbreakable (2014)?

Joey Fava: They can expect a full length album. The last 2 releases were EPs. Experience was well thought out, we wanted it to flow from song to song seamlessly. With an intro for the record and interlude tracks for more of an "experience". I think that this album has more personality.

11. Why do you think people should check out your new album once released?

Christina Chriss: So you can discover your new favorite band :) You'll FEEL it. It's authentic, refreshing, and relatable. It stands out in the modern climate of rock music by fusing together all of our influences and individual styles.

12. How would you say you differ from other bands and artists on the scene?  What makes Kaleido unique?

Joey Fava: We don't try to be anything except ourselves & we embrace what comes out when we make music. Everybody in the band has VERY different and unique influences and musical taste, so when we put them all together it's like the Power Rangers Mega Zord and it turns in to something of its own! It's hard to classify us as one certain genre.

13. What do you want to achieve as a band?

Joey Fava: We want to keep making music and getting it out to as many people as we can, Tour to as many different places as we can, and meet as many amazing people as possible. We love traveling and playing shows, We hope to make the best music we can possibly make.

14. What does the rest of 2017 hold for Kaleido?  You're heading out on tour next week.

Joey Fava: 2017 will be a big year! Were heading out on Tour next week with SEETHER, Letters From The Fire, and a couple dates with Through Fire. This is going to be an incredible tour and we can't wait to get back out on the road! For the rest of the year we'll be touring as much as possible supporting "Experience" and also start working on our next album.

15. Describe Kaleido in three words.

Rock And Roll. ;)
