Post-hardcore hard rockers This City Falls are hard at work writing and recording brand new music for their EP due out sometime soon. They also have been playing shows here and there and just have so much more in-store for their music and the fans who have believed in them. 1. What type of band are you?
Well we labeled ourselves under the post hardcore/hard rock genre simply because there's so many different sub genres out there, but we are the type of band that enjoys writing music, having fun and playing shows.
2. Tell us the brief history of your band.
This City Falls formed out of an older band called Hollow eyes where our guitarists (Phil & Zach) and our drummer (Jeff) wanted to do something a bit heavier and so when that band ended they did it. An ad was put out for vocalists and a bassist and we were able to pick up (Jose) to do some dirty vocals and (Michael) to do the clean vocals as well as a fellow named (Travis) to do the bass work. However our original bass player Travis had some other things going on for him in life and so he left and another local musician buddy (Austin) offered to play bass for us. After that it was just practice what was already written and start looking for shows. After our first show we signed to The Vulcan Agency management and currently that’s where we are.
3. Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
Well we all have a lot of different musical influences but some of them include Memphis May Fire, Architects, The Word Alive, and Crown the Empire. As for non-musical influences go to YouTube and type in “ASDF movies” and enjoy.
4. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are based out of the suburbs of Chicago but to make it easier on people from out of state, we just say Chicago when they ask. And there are many local bands out here that we could recommend depending on what style of music you like. The bands Sworn In (Razor & Tie) and For All I Am (equalvision) are from our area but some of the locals that we personally like include, Barrier, Villians, The Fight Night, Real Friends, The Model Type, Demolisher, Arkham.
5. Who writes the songs, what are they about?
Usually the songs start out with being written by our guitarists and our drummer and then when they are done our vocalists take over and do their thing. As for what they are written about that kind of varies song by song.
6. How do you promote your band and shows?
Well we do the whole online thing as well as we go to shows and hand out flyers and postcards as much as we possibly can in an effort to try and meet new people and talk to them. All that stuff seems to be working pretty well for us because we've met some pretty awesome people already.
7. Describe your show, visual and musically for us.
Well this is a hard one to answer because everyone’s perception is going to be a bit different and so in order to really answer this one I suggest coming out to one of our shows. However we are working on getting together a bit of a light show to accompany our live set if that helps out.
8. What do you think about downloading music online?
It’s an easy way to get your favorite band’s songs as opposed to driving to a store and picking up a physical album copy. I know it really doesn't help the average local band out as far as a monetary thing goes but in all honesty as long as people are downloading our tunes and listening to them and showing their friends them, we could care less as to if they didn't buy the song. However we do appreciate the people who take the time to pay for our songs though.
9. What's your outlook on the record industry today?
Can’t say the basic idea of it has changed all that much over time, just the way it works has. They need to make their money somehow so they do as best as they can.
10. What advice would you give to fellow bands?
Have fun with what you do!
11. What are the biggest obstacles for bands?
Getting your name out there and introducing your music to people that would like it. Also raising money for merch and good equipment.
12. What's new in the recording of your music?
We have one more single to release this summer and then we are scheduled to have our E.P. done by September.
13. What are your dreams and goals?
Well we all love the music we write and you could say our goal is to get our music out there and share it with the rest of the world. I know it kind of sounds cliché and all, but if we could sign to a label that would help us do that, then consider that a goal as well.
14. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?
In all honesty if you want to see us, just message our Facebook band page with what town you are in and what venue you would like to see us at and then we will do our best to contact that venue and try to set up a show so you can.
