Experimentalist singer DINAH KING has a style truly her own. She has been hard at work at what will be her debut EP. She is so thrilled for all to hear it and share it as well. New material will be made with shows and touring to follow come this next year! Dinah herself, talks of all plus more!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

I have always sang. Ever since I can remember I would stand up in front of my family and sing songs from Disney films, memorizing every word and practicing constantly... my poor wee mama! Music was a big feature at home with myself and my 3 siblings playing every instrument known to man... again, my poor mama! I started singing in my local church age 14 - quickly stepping in to lead the music programmed there at 16. When producer Jimmy (Funeral Fires front man) asked me to work on a few songs with him after a 10 year hiatus, I was over the moon! Then Covid-19 hit the world so with a lot more time on my hands, what started as me singing a few backing harmonies for Jimmy became Dinah King and what you hear now. 

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The name is a mash up of some of my favorite things - King is for my favorite author, Stephen King and Dinah is the name of the cat in Alice in Wonderland, my favorite book. 

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

I am based out of Glasgow. The scene here is eclectic which suits the style of what I’m trying to create. My favorite local bands at the moment are, of course, Funeral Fires and Fatherson. Both amazing live and really immerse you into their world for a time when you hear them. When they walk on stage the whole place takes notice. 

4. How would you describe your style?

This is the hardest question I’ve been asked and I still haven’t been able to answer it! There’s a bit of a bluesy sound, soft rock... some of my songs are laced with the most stunning cello pieces which bring a beautiful atmosphere.  Ultimately, I don’t know! I need all of you listening to decide and tell me so I have an answer for the next time I’m asked!

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

This is my debut EP and I am so excited to share it with everyone. The whole thing is peppered with lyrics that refer to my life so I hope everyone can feel the emotion that went into it.  

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We’ve already started writing my next album which I’m aiming to release in the summer 2021. It’s already sounding awesome with some really bluesy, upbeat tones.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We’re so saddened by the effect that Covid-19 has had on the industry but totally want to keep our fans safe so I will be performing shows as soon as the world regains some normality and the restrictions are lifted. I will be touring next year. Watch this space! 

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

The second album is in the works and plans are being made around shows and touring next year. My current plans are to simply see where the music leads me.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

I want listeners to really listen to the lyrics, especially in John Wayne Gacy Jnr and Cocaine & Abel. These tracks have been curated to tell a story. A sad but reflective story that everyone can relate to. Most of all I want the music to be enjoyed and I hope we’ve been able to bring something to listeners that makes them feel something beautiful.

Mixer uppers BLITZ UNION combine EDM and rock together, to make a combo so raw in sound it's a distortion left for the unknown.... Since their forming they have an EP out, and an array of single's with an upcoming album as well. Nothing but work upon that album is what's on the table for now, and the band chats much about it and all else too!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

I think it is not the right time to reveal the whole story/whole truth. I am not ready yet and not sure if everyone else would be able to handle it too. But what I can tell is that me, Mark Blitz was the one who put the band together, who recruited Shodushi, GØvernor and Schtorm. And it wasn’t like “I want to start a band”, but due to the unusual events, circumstances which happened to me it was more like “I must start a band”. We are already working on a suitable form, how to present the whole story, what happened to me, what made me start Blitz Union. So if you’ll be checking Blitz Union socials regularly, you'll slowly get the answers. 

 2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The second part of the name ‘Union’ speaks for itself. Besides doing music— we are trying to create an experience, a movement and a natural union. A group of like-minded people who care about the whole, who care about life in general and do not focus exclusively on their personal profit. The first part of the name 'Blitz' - I am sorry, but the origin of 'Blitz' is directly connected to the whole story which, as mentioned in my first answer, I am not ready to share yet...

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Blitz Union is based in Prague, Czech Republic. Prague is a city of great history & culture and so the music scene is quite wide and various here. From rock- scene I would point out bands like John Wolfhooker or Hentai Corporation and from pop/alternative scene a band called MYDY.

4. How would you describe your style?

We call it EDM-rock. We try to combine electronic and dance music elements with the raw rock sound. So you can hear a dance kick drum, disco buildups together with a distorted riffing guitar in the very same song.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We released 5 songs EP “Revolution” in 2019 and since this September we are regularly releasing first singles from our upcoming album. The latest single 'Money-Crazy World' was released yesterday.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes that's right, we are constantly working on new songs so that we can release our debut full length album in spring 2021.  

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Unfortunately, due to the Covid situation all planned shows, tours have been cancelled and since nobody knows how long these restrictions will last, the promoters do not want to promise any alternative dates. Which makes total sense. But this summer season was very fruitful for us. We were on an open-air tour throughout the Czech Republic alongside the local popular band Škwor as guests. Each show had an awesome, unique atmosphere and we successfully recruited a lot of new followers of our Union there.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Our current priority is to finish the album, videos and also to work on a suitable form of presentation of our story and the standards of our Union. This part must not be underestimated and needs its necessary time.

Our music is available on all standard music platforms such as YouTube, Spotify, Apple music etc. If someone would like to support our Union directly, they can take a look at our e-shop, where we have available for example our first EP on classic vinyl.  

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Well, if in any sense the listener remembers our music, positive or negative, the main thing is that he has memorized it in some way. We are more interested in the subsequent feedback, which helps us to understand how our music affects certain types of people.

Modern hard rockers FACING FEARS have a handful of content out, with even all new content underway! The band just wants to plan out the growth of their audience and just see where all of this leads them next. The band says so much more about themselves and their music creativeness.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Facing Fears stands for Modern Hard Rock. This may sound contradictory in many ears at first, but Facing Fears embodies exactly this balancing act, which combines the "good old days" with modern sound. Without serving the classic clichés of long-haired frock wearers, the musicians around frontman Deniz Dogru deliver in the vibe of the 80s and 90s with hard and groovy guitar riffs. But the band's hard rock is modern because Facing Fears does not limit itself to the old virtues, but integrates influences of hard metal and melodic pop music into their songwriting. This way every song creates a familiar feeling in the listener's mind without missing tension and variety. The art is to present the listener with music that does not yet exist in its own right, but which immediately catches the listener's ear and gives him the feeling that he has never heard anything else. The first EP "Chapter One" was produced and distributed independently in early 2016. After almost 40 shows in two and a half years, the production of the first longplayer was finally started. With Aljoscha Sieg (Pitchback Studios) the right producer was found for the realisation of the record and with "Horizons" the next coup of Facing Fears was released for the first time under record contract. In 2020 Facing Fears opens the next chapter of the band's history with the single "Forever Ends", including new musicians on drums and bass. Again the top sound is influenced by the Pitchback Studios and knows how to inspire: You will understand!

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The origin of the name is simply our inner convenience and attitude to succeed in life. Difficult situations make you grow the most, so face your fears!

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

The band is based in Ulm (southern Germany). There is kind of a music scene for self-made music, but still on a lower level. Local bands we recommend would be: Insanity Inc. , Voltkid, Big Daddy X and München West

4. How would you describe your style?

Modern Hard Rock.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes, we have a lot of new material. Two more songs will be recorded this year and launched in the beginning of next year.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We had (laughing bitterly). But due to the pandemic everything is cancelled. When the situation stabilizes we aim to be out and playing shows and maybe also a tour.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

The major plan is to grow our audience and to reach many people with our music. And in concrete it would be to release more material (probably also a new album) and to play shows and tours as much as possible. As this is the reason we are doing this.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

It is like you listen to something familiar in a completely new way, as the old school classic rock is wrapped in a strong melodic Metalcore atmosphere.

VULGARITHM comes into 2020 straight out of the 90's! Its a styling from hell itself, taking the likes of a but of heaviness, riffs, guitar work, drum beats and synths like no tomorrow. Having released an EP or two, with a third EP in this trilogy of series expected in the coming future sometime. The sole member of this act is Andy "Dirt" McGurk himself talks onward about how this all came to be....

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Vulgarithm has only one member, myself Andy "Dirt" McGurk, and it's history is a short one as well. Vulgarithm was a way of reinventing myself after doing other musical projects, including a 10 year solo project called "hollowtechnic". Just as Vulgarithm had a plan, COVID hit the world, so Vulgarithm exists as an online enigma for now.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

There was no reasoning for landing on the name, as it was a spark of thought, but there was a reason for it sticking. The vulgarity of the music which can feel sleazy and uneasy at points, the rhythm brings out what most people want to listen to these days, and the algorithm part brings many layers into the music, and adding structure to madness.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

The "Band" is currently stuck in quarantine in a small town called Market Deeping just north of Peterborough in the east midlands, UK. As venues have died out and other venues largely turning to cover bands, the scene has seemed to have dipped. I will however give a shout out to my other band "BlackHawkDown" who are located near by.

4. How would you describe your style?

 A friend of mine, and a separate album reviewer describes it as "Music on steroids". It is a relentless pounding of heavy riffing guitars, deep electronic drum beats and dizzying synths. It has a vocal and lyric freedom of System Of A Down and Tool, but with a mid 90s dance oriented rhythm, similar to prodigy, chemical brothers etc. NOT NINE INCH NAILS! Trent is my biggest hero in music but I want to stress this is not the lazy guitars meet synths tag.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

My first EP "Share if you agree" is currently out across all streaming platforms, and my second EP "Share if you disagree" will be available 20th November onwards. Expect a journey like a bat out of hell but the motorbike is in fact a train. I have also done many Ibiza classics covers on Youtube.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

My 3rd installment of my trilogy series will be "Share in the 3rd degree" but I have no release date for that.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Once COVID eases, I will try and make my long awaited gig debut. Vulgarithm live is yet to be unleashed onto the public. World domination, the whole world wearing Vulgarithm masks and everyone becomes one great big whole. In all honesty though, I just want to bring my very visual show and show people a really great time, and live on that.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Make sure you listen to at least 3 songs before making your mind up, not one song is the same. Also remember that one song may sound serious but in all honesty it's just a lot of fun.

Pop punk hardcore band OFFSET VISION have gone on to release a single along with an EP, and have been busy writing and recording for their follow-up EP. Whilst touring isn't on the table, local showcases will take places if possible, with the band just wanting to get out there and make a difference. 1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

It started out with just Maki and myself (James) writing a few songs in our bedrooms. It wasn’t until after the first EP ‘It’s All I Taste’ was released that a full band was formed to play live shows; practicing with a few different people casually until eventually recruiting close friends Callum and Dylan.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The band’s name came because I have heterochromia (2 different colored eyes) and was once asked if my vision was different in each eye. It’s not; but we tell people it is, just to see if they’ll believe it (they do).

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are based out of Launceston, in Australia. It’s not a very big city, but the music scene is quite active. A lot of people come to see local bands weekly. Indie rock and acoustic stuff is much more popular though, so it’s hard to book shows as a heavier band.

4. How would you describe your style?

Our style is basically a blend of pop punk and hardcore. We have a lot of very different influences and I think our music reflects that.

5.  What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We’ve released a single and a 3 song EP this year. People can expect a lot of energy when they hear our music; with tuned down, distorted guitars and aggressive vocals being our main features.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes! We are currently writing and recording a second EP, which is being produced over in Germany. We are aiming for a mid to late March 2021 release. Expect it to be much more diverse than our past work.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Due to COVID restrictions, unfortunately touring isn’t in the foreseeable future. Local shows will continue to be played though, despite the limited number of people allowed in venues.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We want to make a difference, and not just be another mediocre band that barely scrapes by for a few years. We are constantly working on our skills and improving our songwriting, and I think our next EP will show that. Eventually, when it’s safe, we want to be able to travel around the country and play more shows for more people.

We are currently selling t-shirts at shows to raise money for our upcoming release, and are in the process of setting up an online store, so people from around the world have the option of buying them!

If they like what they hear; we hope they remember our name so that they can search us up again.

English jazz singer/songwriter MADELINE CASTREY takes the likes of jazz and modern day pop, to create beats that echo through the years of legends and then some. Thus, forth she has come quite a ways, creating her music, including release all new material altogether. She herself Madeline Castrey goes into discussion about all of this and more!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Well, it’s just me, Madeline Castrey! I was born in Surrey and I’ve always been a lover of music from a very young age. If you’ve heard my songs, you might not believe it, but my background is actually in classical singing. I have a strong background in West End Theatre and television, but then I fell in love with opera and began to train as an opera singer.

I was seriously ill as a teenager, and the silver lining of this was being able to spend lots of time on music and finding the style I really loved. I was thrilled to become the first ever 16-year-old admitted onto an undergraduate degree course at The London College of Music, and I then went on to gain a distinction in my master’s degree specialising in opera. 

Over the past few years, I’ve been using music as a means to fundraise for the charities that helped me as a teen, and I was thrilled to receive a Princess Diana Award for my work.

Alongside producing my own music, I am also a published author and about to finish my PhD in music…safe to say, I don’t cope very well when I’m bored!

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

As much as I wish I had a groovy band name…it’s just me! I’ve left the middle name off though – With two left feet, I’m the least ‘Grace’ful person in the world!

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

I’m a Surrey girl, born and raised just south of London. Coming from a small village, the music scene is basically just me making lots of noise!  Obviously, the jazz scene in London is much more vibrant. Personally I’d recommend the 606 club! There’s some amazing bands and artists performing there (I’d love to perform there myself one day).

4. How would you describe your style?

Smooth, velvety and sweet with a beat…a bit like chocolate really! I think nu-jazz as a genre is quite under-represented in both the commercial market and in terms of female engagement (be it artists, producers and more) With a strong background in classical music, I can see so many links between the classical and jazz worlds, and so much room for innovation by modern artists. I strive to bring new audiences to smooth and modern jazz to put my own stamp on this wonderful genre and hopefully inspire more people to engage with it.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

I have released three original singles so far with many more to come! It’s probably the most clicé answer in the world, but I really believe that you can expect the unexpected! Whenever I mention that “jazz music” I’ve found that a lot of people are often either pre-disposed to a negative opinion or have the wrong idea about how broad the genre can be. It’s not all just saxophones and long solos – and that realization is really what I’m trying to achieve through my music. 

All my songs are very lyric focused, so I hope that you’ll be able to relate to my words and adopt my songs as mantras or realizations of your own experiences. To top it all off, there’s a lot of catchy melodies, silky vocals and fresh, groovy beats.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Oh yes! I have some more singles ready to go and I’m currently writing an EP too! There’s a really good mix so far of “groovers” and “chillers” so whether you’re in a mellow mood or in need of a jazzy bop for a bit of motivation, there’ll be something for you, I’m sure!

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

The global situation at the moment makes this all a bit difficult, but I’m a performer first and foremost and I love nothing more than engaging with audiences of all sizes. I’ve performed at quite the variety of events in my time; my background is in West End Theatre, so I’ve had the opportunity to perform in some fantastic shows including The Lion King, Les Miserables, Evita and more. I also performed in a number of London opera productions in the past couple of years…and nothing is more difficult than singing opera in full Edwardian dress! What I’ve found with my music is that it’s really refreshing to be able to sing as myself! I’ve performed at some fantastic venues over the years including the Twickenham Stadium Live Room but I can’t wait to hit the ground running and start performing my new singles more widely as soon as we’re able!

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

I’d love to release an EP in the next year alongside a few more singles. Then looking ahead to 2021/22, I’d love to think about getting a label involved…the sky’s the limit really!

A combination of things really; I’d love listeners to remember my melodies, their reactions to the words and above all, if the music brought you some joy, I’d love you to remember that feeling! And if you can remember my name, that’s a bonus!

 Los Angeles Industrial artists Dawn of Ashes release their new music video Sleep Paralysis.

Dawn of Ashes takes a stand in their new music video Sleep Paralysis. While using elements of visual horror reminiscent of HR Giger, Zdzisław Beksiński, and Clive Barker, the music video places a spotlight on corruption, police brutality, and human rights. Sleep Paralysis harkens back to early 90s Industrial music, in the same vein as pioneers, Ministry and Skinny Puppy. In an era where it gained a reputation as music that spoke out against corruption. Sleep Paralysis is off Dawn of Ashes new album The Antinomian, which was released in July this year on Artoffact Records. 

The music video was directed by Christopher Lee Truman with visuals by Timothy Martin of Legacy Effects ( The Mandalorian, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Avengers: Endgame, IT). The music video can be seen right HERE.
