Elephant Stone's Rishi Remixes The Dicussion
Elephant Stone have decided upon releasing a new album, but not of new content but of remixed material. This EP remix release would include such tracks as "Love Is Like A Spinning Wheel" remixed by Xavier Boyer (Tahiti 80), which has received a recent single turned video release HERE. Rishi Dhir goes into discussion about the single, it's video, and the remixed EP.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Rishi: Formed in Montreal in 2009, Elephant Stone is the brainchild of vocalist, bassist, songwriter, and sitar player, Rishi Dhir. Also featuring Miles Dupire (drums/backing vox) and Gabriel Lambert (geetar/backing vox), Elephant Stone have toured extensively throughout North America and Europe and are prominent members of the burgeoning psych rock scene. Dhir has recorded, performed, and toured with indie rock icons (Beck), legendary cult bands (The Brian Jonestown Massacre), and contemporary psych titans (The Black Angels and The Horrors).
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Rishi: It's my nod to Ganesha (the elephant hindu go of new beginnings and prosperity)... I bought a beautiful sandstone statue when I went to Indonesia on money honeymoon... and I like the Stone Roses.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Rishi: We're from Montreal and there are so many great bands... We have a very vibrant scene at Pop Montreal is a great place to discover them.
4. How would you describe your style?Rishi: Psychedelic Rock.
5. Why was "Love Is Like A Spinning Wheel" made to have a remixed version done by Xavier Boyer (Tahiti 80)?
Rishi: Xavier loved the song and wanted to see what he could do with it.
6. You released an accompanying video for this same remix of "Love Is Like A Spinning Wheel", can you disclose what this video was about?
Rishi: It was made by James Oswald (Levitation, Alta Real Pictures) using old Bollywood clips. My direction to him was to tell a love story.
7. "Remix of Fools (Ship of Fools Remixed)", is where this track comes from, but can you discuss this release as a whole for us?
Rishi: I love when people rework our music. They always shine a light on something very unexpected. So, with our last release "Ship of Fools" I sought people would do just that.
8. Will anymore tracks off "Remix of Fools (Ship of Fools Remixed)" receive the single and video format?
Rishi: So unlikely!
9. Why should people go forth and check out this remixed album as opposed to the original album?
Rishi: Well, I actually think it would be good to check our Ship of Fools before Remix of Fools. Still, Remix of Fools is a standalone release and can be appreciated on its own.
10. What would you say makes Elephant Stone stand out above all the other artists and bands out there?
11. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Rishi: We're on tour throughout Europe right now and will be ending off the year with US tour dates with The Dream Syndicate.
