Out of the graveyards and onto the stages,
Cold Blue Rebels mix the driving psychobilly beats of fifties rock with the gore ‘n’ schtick of classic horror films. The band is de-composed of three veteran Sunset Strip rockers: Mickey Finn - Vox/Harmonica, Danny Dangerous - Bass, Joe Normal - Guitar and a fresh-faced zombie drummer, Al Diablo, who have returned to haunt the nightclubs and howl with a sound that grows on you like moss on a crypt.
1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Cold Blue Rebels, and how long the band has been together.
Mickey: I am Mickey Finn Lead Vocals/ Harmonica.
2. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Mickey: North Hollywood CA Socal is filled with great bands, Rocketz, Howlers, Gamblers Mark, Rezurex to name a few.
3. How did the band come to get the name, Cold Blue Rebels and is there a meaning behind it?
Mickey: I started a list for band names and song titles when Danny started putting the band together and Cold Blue Rebels was the best sounding name, not too specific, just a good Rock n Roll name. Cold Blue as in the temperature and color of a dead body/zombie, and Rebels because we are rebellious rockers!
4. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
Mickey: Death, Zombies and Monsters, Hot chicks dead or alive, Killers, Stories of murder and mayhem, Zombie love, Satan and Hellfire, Creepy themes for creepy people!
5. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)
Mickey: Yes of course, I write all lyrics, we collaborate on the rest. Usually starting off acoustically at home for basic structure and then bringing it into the rehearsal studio for full band participation. Many songs start with a title and theme maybe a lose melody, and sometimes the melody or riff comes first and I write lyrics to that. I like writing both ways and having great musicians to collaborate with makes writing great songs easy!
6. What image do you think your music conveys?
Mickey: Great entertaining rock no roll, with an image and live show that gives you the creeps and makes you smile and laugh at the same time! Goth-a-Billy, Horror Rock, If you love all things macabre, twisted and creepy, and ya love to party our music and shows are right up your alley!
7. Is there any story or concept behind the Love Of The Undead title?
Mickey: It’s a love story about being creepy but still being a good person. Not judging a book by its cover because freaky looking people can still be intelligent, talented, and treat you better then the so called perfect popular people. And opposites do sometimes attract in the case of the title song one of the most popular girls in school falls for the creepy goth/zombie guy, who treats her better then anyone ever has, and her friends don’t understand that.
8. Who produced Love Of The Undead and what was it like working with them?
Mickey: CBR produced the EP with Gator McMurder (Coffin Draggers) handling engineering in his “Funeral Home” studio.
9. Select two songs from Love Of The Undead and what inspired the lyrics.
Mickey: “Blood Sweat and Tears”- a lovely song about murder, torture and how it feels to be helpless as your life comes to an end at the hands of a killer who is doing his favorite thing.
Zombie L.A.M.F. (like a mother fucker) dedicated to Johnny Thunders (New York Dolls) L.A.M.F was spray painted on walls in NYC by juvenile delinquent gangs to mark their territory. This song showcases our pride in what we do, some may hate us but we drive some folks wild! We are proud creepy zombie rockers!!!
10. Who did the cover art for Love Of The Undead and how much input did you have on it?
Mickey: The artist is Mike Fisher, visit his FB page to see some of the most rad art ever, he’s and old friend of mine who has been doing Punk, Metal, Rock designs for tons of bands, skateboards, ect. He did the cover and the whole layout, the photos were taken by our friend Monster Matt at Monsterland in Arizona (unfortunately since shut down) we worked with Mike but did all the hard work!
11. How do you describe your music to people?
Mickey: Zombie Rock! Psychobilly, Gothabilly, Horror Rock, ROCK N ROLL!
12. Do you guys have any new music in the works?
Mickey: We have some new songs in the works and will be doing 2 new videos in June!
13. How have the gigs you guys been doing been?
Mickey: Amazing, we have been fortunate to have gotten great gigs since our first show at Bordello Club in downtown LA. Our tours with Wednesday 13, Rocketz, and Koffin Kats have been great, we have never really had a bad show.
14. What could one expect from Cold Blue Rebels show?
Mickey: Entertainment!! Lots of fun, and a band that delivers an action packed show from beginning to end. We will be dripping bloody sweat by the end of the first song, and each member rocks like there’s no tomorrow. Not to mention if you are lucky enough to catch one of our west coast show when we feature the Cold Blue Zombie Dancers, the sexy-creepy Angelic Midori, and Little Miss Dangerous Leti Prado, they make being dead and rotted hotter then hell, your crotch will drip and your pants will get tight when they writhe, rock and grind all over the stage!
