Rock band A MIDNIGHT TRAGEDY is a four piece from out on the east coast, having released a handful of content, including a recent single, vocalist/guitarist Dallas Sanchez comes back to talk about what has come about since the last time we spoke sometime ago.


1. It's been quite a while since we last spoke, so what happened between then and now?

Dallas: A lot. Since we last spoke I believe we put out one last E.P and toured a bit before riding off into the sunset.  Life happened for a lot of us and we wanted to take some time off to explore and grow.  We see how long that lasted.

2. You went on to release your debut EP and album "Lost Under Infinite Sorrow". But went out and released a new song and video release titled "You're to Blame", tell me about this?

Dallas: So after we released “Lost” we played everywhere, big shows, small shows, out of state shows.  We went everywhere we could to showcase our big rock opera.  We started writing and decided we wanted to put something fresh out there and You’re to Blame was definitely a good representation of where our sound was heading.

3. Can you tell me about when Dallas was able to perform alongside The Misfits for their song "Forbidden Zone"?

Dallas: Jerry said no at first haha.  He wanted to rehearse and there was no time.  We had opened for them 3 times and I felt confident enough in our relationship to let him know I had been a lifelong fan and could do it.  After a few minutes of deliberation he asked if I knew forbidden zone and the rest was history.

4. Do you have any new music in the works that we can expect to hear or see in the form of a video release?

Dallas: We are actually in the process of writing a new album.  There are a few demos circulating and we have discussed that the only way to present any new music moving forward is with visual media.  So to answer your question, yes.

5. In 2019 the original line-up of A Midnight Tragedy had came together why did you want to get the original bill back together?

Dallas: So around September of 2018 our guitarist had an amazing opportunity present itself and it unfortunately relocated him to Georgia.  We were burnt out and kind of at the end so we never really even had a final show.  Around April of 2019 I started talking with some of the original members of the band about possibly doing one last show with the original lineup, we would play our very first album “Reinventing The End” in its entirety and move on from there.  It was a way to add closure to a 13 year journey and send it off the right way.

6. So is the current line-up as of right now the original or is it all new members altogether?

Dallas: The current lineup is indeed the original lineup.  We are older and wiser and more developed musically so for us to come together with a more mature approach is really cool.

7. After that event took place, another one happened known as covid-19, what ran through your head when you heard the news up until this day and time!

Dallas: Honestly, we had already hung it all up so it was a relief that we got to have that last show before the world took that right away from us.  Once the world shut down and the restrictions took place we all put more focus on ourselves and our families and that was honestly the best thing we could’ve done.

8. Do you or any of the other members have any other projects going on you would like to discuss?

Dallas: Well, I do have a solo project on SoundCloud under the name Dallas DeAlba.  As far as the other guys, we are all parents except for John who has a successful recycling company that he built from the ground up.  Our lead guitarist Ryan has a successful DJ business and is really making a name for himself in that world.  Dan and River are raising families as well as working hard in their respective careers. Dan is an Emmy award winning engineer and always has something going on.  

9. What about plans for the band anything to mention?

Dallas: We do have a show with Crashing Atlas coming up in February which also coincides with my (Dallas) birthday.  We recently had a comeback show Halloween weekend and it was a huge success so we decided it was time to ride the wave and play some shows.

10. Thanks for the catch-up, have any final words of expression?

Dallas: In March of 2020 the world told us we weren’t allowed to live.  We had to confirm to this new way of life and be OK with it.  That was something we just couldn’t do.  After our “last show” October of 2019 we felt good and always intended to do it again.  When we couldn’t, we realized we were taking our own passion for granted and actually spiting ourselves.   We decided to have “one more show” that turned into what it is now.  I’m not saying we are chasing record deals or booking tours, what I am saying is that there is still more life in AMT and we look forward to showing everyone what we have coming.  Thank you Natalie for always keeping AMT relevant.

A Midnight Tragedy's "Lost Under Infinite Sorrow" would see the band at what would be their third full-length album to date, since their start-up the band has seen line-up changes, touring treks, playing showcases, to writing and recording music that lead down to this latest installment.

This release was produced by Anthony Santo of the Westfall Recording Company, what he would bring to the table for these guys, would be creativity like nothing ever heard before, it shows crystal clear and is hands down remarkable, clean cut material of pure rock n' roll mixed with some heavy metal inspirations blended in to sound a lot like Avenged Sevenfold meets Aiden.

Some of the songs that stood out the most would have to be "Nightmare", "Time To Rise", "Torment", "Louder Than Words", and "Rapture".  The instrumental work is done well, the guitars and bass are catchy enough, while the drumming backs those up, being just as catchy if not slightly catchier, whereas the vocal chords are very upbeat, keeping the beat of the music flowing right along as each song plays on through. Lyrical context is heartfelt, sorrowful, and on the edge at times, making the emotions run through you like butter cuts through with the use of a knife.


A Midnight Tragedy's third release is upbeat, catchy, and has its moments that drawn you in with each time you listen, you get struck with emotion that are there as soon as the music portrays itself.

Over the course of their musical careers A Midnight Tragedy has kept to what they have always loved and enjoyed doing writing and recording music and it has all come down to this.... The writings and recordings of their newest album "Lost Under Infinite Sorrow". Vocalist/guitarist Dallas Sanchez took the time to discuss this release and the band's plans for the remainder of this year.


1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in A Midnight Tragedy, and how long the band has been together.

Dallas: My name is Dallas, I sing and play the guitar in A Midnight Tragedy.  We have been together for 8 years and do not plan on stopping anytime soon.

2. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Dallas: We are technically based out of Kearny NJ, however, we spend more time touring than we do playing in NJ.  Usually our closest venues are based in NYC.  That scene is a little more our style.  Unfortunately the NJ scene is a different scene than it was when I started playing, then again, I started playing out 15 years ago.  Nowadays a big hardcore movement has emerged which is awesome, it's just not our thing.  The NYC crowd is an older crowd for us, we've been around a while, our fans have grown and so we've had to grow with them and that's been a great ride.  As far as locals I would recommend, I would have to say 2 bands we've come across while touring recently have been the Arc City Angels and most recently The Little War Twins, both amazing bands and super cool people too.

3. Who produced Lost Under Infinite Sorrow and what was it like working with them?

Dallas: Anthony Santonocito, he is the head producer over at Westfall Recording Company out in Farmingdale NY.  It was amazing working with Santo because he really taught us about ourselves and our sound and helped us really explore our creativity.  He didn't try and change our sound and who we were like our last producer did, Santo let us have complete control of this project and acted as a fresh ear and helped us learn our craft.  That's the whole point of working with a producer, it teaches you about yourself and how to one day be in that seat.  I have a lot more confidence in my ability to produce music and how to write as well.  Definitely a better producer than our last producer, better album too.

4. Is there any story or concept behind the Lost Under Infinite Sorrow title?

Dallas: There's a definite story behind the title and only people who know me and know certain things that happened in my life over the years can probably pick up on the title.  As far as a story behind the album, this entire album is the finale to a trilogy.  If you have listened to our last two albums then you will feel the connection to them.  Lost Under Infinite Sorrow is simply the end to a story that I've spent 8 years telling, a story about pain, suffering, coping with change, addiction, loss and trying to rise above that hatred to leave Infinite sorrow (Hell) and rise to Eternal Bliss.  I took what caused me to start AMT as well as what I was going through at that moment in time and fit it into a story that is bigger than an album.  I actually wrote this as a musical, it was never meant to be part of AMT's catalog at all.

5. Who did the cover art for Lost Under Infinite Sorrow and how much input did you have on it?

Dallas: My dear friend Ana Santos is an amazing photographer and worked with us on a photo shoot for Alternative Press Magazine.  When looking for a photographer for that shoot a bunch of "friends" from high school who have become iPhone photographers all wanted the chance to get their names out there and were trying really hard to get the gig and being sketchy and trying to act like we've been friends for years when we weren't even friends in High School.  Ana on the other hand shot me a very professional self nomination message simply putting her name out there and linked me to her work.  Rather than try and take me out for drinks and try and convince me, she let her amazing work speak for itself.  Ana and her partner Elissa Higgins (The Model on our new album) who actually designed our new logo, are cosplayers and do amazing work.  As a comic book nerd and lover of all things spooky I made the great choice and chose Ana and Elisa and never looked back.  When it came to fruition that we were going to immediately release our next album I wanted to do something huge since the album was the most conceptual one yet, so the 3 of us went on a diner date and after hours of talking we came up with some amazing ideas to connect the art with the music, I can't wait for the world to see the finished product.

6. Why did you go the concept album route on the new album?

Dallas: For the most part I write conceptual music, I grew up on musicals and Disney movies so I really like the idea of a world where everything is interpreted through music and dancing.  I mean really how bad could a world filled with music really be?  I've also been through so much horrible stuff and have seen even more horrible stuff since my last job was in the funeral business, I just needed an outlet to turn that horror into something fun.  Also, like I said earlier on, this album was not meant to happen, I spent 2 years perfecting a treatment for an off broadway Gothic Musical based on Dante's Inferno.  It was meant to be kinda like the musical Rent, a Meatloaf song and that book, only our Drummer Dan even knew I was working on it, as a band we were working on our last album "KILLER" with Wil Francis and just based on that experience I was looking for an out and working on this musical as a means to an end for the band.  Eventually, Justin Autumn over at Westfall found us on some music site and immediately contacted me and introduced me to Santo who I eventually introduced the band to.  We decided not only to go and work with them but we also decided to go big and pull off the impossible, we were gonna put out a musical for our 3rd album.  Now that it is finished I can tell you with complete conviction that this album will definitely blow the world away.

7. How did you challenge yourself sound wise to fit this concept?

Dallas: It was more about knowing when enough is enough, with an album like this that isn't written like a rock n roll album but more like a musical, you have to factor in the fact that a lot of people aren't into showtunes and musicals, how do you please the everyday listener and stay true the artistic inspiration that caused you to write the album in the first place?  I think we did a good job on that.

8. Did you get the album you wanted? Is everything on there or were there some things that were just impossible to pull off?

Dallas: After a lot of back n forth with Santo and Justin we were able to convince them that there were some things that just needed to be on the album regardless of how insignificant they might seem and they let us try them ideas out and for the most part we kept everything.  Nothing is impossible if you believe in yourself, we made it work and I couldn't be any happier with the finished product.

9. Is the concept of the album going to develop into any other mediums like film or graphic novels?

Dallas: It's funny you say that, I have been collaborating on a book with Ana and Elisa which will consist on all the dialog in the album , lyrics, skits etc., as well as photos and drawings by myself and Ana and Elisa.  It will tell the story in a visual sense.  There has also been talk of releasing a film either in stop motion animation, regular animation or maybe simply releasing music videos for every song like a musical.  This story is too big to be just another rock album by another rock band, it has to be more if it's going to mean anything.

10. What's your take on Lost Under Infinite Sorrow as a whole?

Dallas: "Lost" was my therapy.  I was in a very dark place in my life and I began writing Lost as the conclusion to a trilogy.  I had a horrible series of personal tragedies occur in my life and it reflects in Lost.  In my life there was a happy ending, in the album it's a little more up in the air and lets the listener pick how they interpret the meaning.  It just takes everyday emotions that we all feel and delivers them to a much larger and more animated world.

11. What's the story behind "Nightmare"?

Dallas: Nightmare is the true theme to the album.  The antagonist says throughout the entire album that he must escape this nightmare.  He is very early into his journey and still doesn't believe it to be true so nightmare embodies that.

12. What's your favorite song on the album right now?

Dallas: It depends on the mood I'm in, right now I'd have to say Rapture, but for the most part Living Hell, my very good friend Valerie Manascalco is introduced as the voice of Nora in this and we share a vocal intensity that balances throughout the entire album and you really see it on Living Hell and also our duet track If you Don't Believe.  Val sings so much on this album and truly is a vital part to the sound of this album, I don't think I could have found anyone better for that part.

13. Is it important for you to paint visual pictures with the songs?

Dallas: Absolutely!  Visuals are key, they are completely detrimental to the album and it will be very obvious as to why when it comes out.

14. What would be the cinematic equivalent of Lost Under Infinite Sorrow?

Dallas: I wouldn't even begin to know haha.  I'd say maybe the animated film Dante's Inferno, I actually borrowed some footage for a promotional lyric video I put together for the song Torment.

15. Where is the new material headed?

Dallas: Hopefully in the right direction.  We have been a DIY band for a while and then we worked with Wil Francis and learned a lot, good and bad.  Then we met Santo and Justin down at Westfall and from there we ran into Tom Derr and Rock Ridge Music with whom we signed with in March.  Now with RRM backing us the possibilities are endless and I think people are going to be shocked with the result, I for one am very excited.

16. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Dallas: I want the listener to know how much time and work we put into our music.   I want the listener to remember that we don't take it for granted, we do this because we want to provide them with an option, a different song to hear.  There is so much music out there that sounds the same, we simply want to be the alternative.  Fallout boy wanted to save rock n roll, and failed... We simply want to save music in general, it's time for a change.

17. What plans do you have for the near future as a band?

Dallas: Right now we are touring locally with a string of shows to promote the coming album.  We also have a show coming up in November with the Misfits and are giving away tickets to that on our instagram page.  Once the album comes out we plan on supporting it with a big tour, we will take this show on the road and hopefully get our message out there to as many people as we can.  We are a band that thrives on hard work and plan on continuing that tradition.  I already have started writing our 4th album as well haha.

19. Any final words of wisdom?

Dallas: In this world it is important to stay true to yourself.  When you are honest with yourself you are honest with the world and people like honesty.  Lost is a true story of the Hell my life had been for so many years, I want to share that with people so that hopefully they can rise from the ashes of their false reality and make their lives exactly what they want them to be.  I was able to gain enough faith in myself to escape my nightmare, in the end that's what life is about... Faith in yourself.

20. Is that your final answer?

Dallas: Of course not!  You'll never break free from the chains that bind you to your misery if you don't believe in yourself.  I was once Lost Under Infinite Sorrow and I simply looked in the mirror and said to myself this is not my destiny and I never looked back.

A Midnight Tragedy an act with punk rock adrenaline and a hard rock vibe that keeps the momentum full and focused. Since the release of their debut EP these guys have gotten everything together and are currently laying it all out for their all new release that was produced by Aiden's frontman Wil Francis. Frontman Dallas Sanchez spoke to me about the band’s beginnings and what he hopes will become of the band from this upcoming release and other installments from touring, videos, merch, and just getting the music out to the masses one by one!


1. A Midnight Tragedy where did the name come from?

Dallas: Batman... I was reading a comic around the time we started the group and one of the lines read, “It was at midnight when tragedy struck and the batman was dead.” I was such a diehard batman fan it seemed right so we just went with it.

2. Tell me about your EP and how does it compare to your upcoming release?

Dallas: Well our first release was self produced, we were younger and trying to find our niche as a group, the majority of us were in another band together and it was more of a pop punk group so we wanted to go darker, this album takes that to another level, we have established our sound already and now are trying to send a message. This album was also produced by Wil Francis of the band Aiden so it was just an awesome experience for us.

3. What can you tell me about your upcoming album?

Dallas: Well for one it is a little more aggressive than the last album, the last album was the transition for us from a pop punk band to more of a post hardcore group yet we still kept elements of pop in our sound. This album started out very basic and very aggressive and then Wil heard the songs and was not impressed at all so we spent a year going back and forth with him and really getting into the songs we have now. It's basically a more aggressive but more adult content that touches drug addiction and the effects it has on friendships and relationships of life in general, we just want people to relate to our songs in every way possible.

4. How is the vibe in the studio currently? Any fights?

Dallas: There are always fights! lol No the vibe is really awesome for the most part, we get into it a lot but that’s part of the business, I'm very passionate about this band and about music in general and sometimes I tend to explode but I mean, I get to be in a band with my best friends which is a blessing. Dan our drummer has been dating my sister in law for like 5 years they live together now so I and he are family and he is our engineer as well so I spend more time with him.

5. Where are you in the recording process of the new album?

Dallas: I'm glad to say we are officially in post production, all recording is done and we are already listening to different mixes and so far we are very pleased with the results.

6. Who is producing the album?

Dallas: Wil Francis of the band Aiden/William Control, as well as myself and Dan, we are very particular when it comes to our sound, but Wil has helped us make this album as epic as can be.

7. Where are you recording the album?

Dallas: We are recording the album at our private studio in Kearny NJ, Rustic Recordings. Well it's not private Dan does record other artists there as well; it just seems fun to call it our private studio. Haha

8. Did you have any goals set before recording even began for the album?

Dallas: Of course, like every band we dreamt of super stardom and when Wil contacted me about working on our new album with us I thought this was it, this was our big break... our main goal was to touch as many people as we can with our music and I feel with this album that we will.

9. Are you using any new instrumentation you've never used in the recording process before?

Dallas: No, we talked about using live orchestra on this record as opposed to it being simulated on the keyboard but in the end we just decided to stick to our roots and go with guitars, bass, drums, keys and of course vocals, lots of vocals!

10. When did you start writing for this album?

Dallas: In late 2008, we performed at The Bamboozle Festival in 08 where we also released our first release and 24 hours later Wil Francis contacted me via MySpace, now for us this was huge as Aiden was a huge influence on our first album so right there I immediately started writing some songs for the new album, we started tracking them when we got back from tour and sent him some demos.

11. When can we expect the new album to be released?

Dallas: We are shooting for a May 2012 release; and are planning on releasing it at the Bamboozle 2012 Festival hopefully.

12. Do you have any music videos in the works?

Dallas: We actually have 3 in the works, I've written treatments for 2 awesome videos that will be professionally filmed and edited and we plan on putting together a live footage video with some shots of us at shows and in the studio that one will be done by me on my laptop. There is also a promo video for our album that I recorded and edited myself at my house on Valentine’s Day.

13. What was it like playing 2007's Vans Warped Tour? Are there any current touring plans in the works or nothing right now?

Dallas: Warped was awesome!!!! We met some awesome people that day and had an awesome set and an awesome turnout. We definitely plan on touring once this album drops; we haven't toured since October of 09 so we definitely miss the road, and hopefully a summer tour or a stint on the Warped Tour so we'll see what happens when this album hits the masses!

14. What else do you have in store for this year?

Dallas: Bottom line we plan to take over the music scene! Years ago when we started this band’s music was different it was music, it meant something, nowadays music is nothing but watered down crap shoved down our throats for profit! We want to bring meaning to music again. We have this album, music videos, tons of great shows lined up, we are starting a campaign, we want people from all over the world to join our movement and become KILLERS, a KILLER is a member of our clique the 268 crew as a KILLER you get exclusive tracks and merch and what not it’s pretty fun.

15. Is there anything else you'd like to say or add?

Dallas: I really think that music is such a beautiful thing, it is something that can make you feel happy and sad and angry and relaxed all at the same time. Music can tell a story or it can create a mood, in the words of men like Bob Marley and Bradley Nowelle, one good thing about music is when it hits you - you feel no pain... I live by that, music is everything and I want people to listen to A Midnight Tragedy and feel all those great feelings.
