Lullaby Riot Discusses New EP, New Shows, and More!

Aggressive punks LULLABY RIOT have not one but two EP's live releases out, but since their release, some changes have been made. So the band is hard at work upon their next EP out later this year! The has had some time playing shows, and are set to play again with more shows, the new EP and much more within the next year! The band discusses all of this below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band was formed in 2023 with myself (Lee) and Robbie (bass) we had a few people come and go before Nathan (drums) joined us in November 2024, and then in February this year we got Tyler (guitar).

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The idea for the name was a dichotomy for something quiet and something loud, Lullaby I thought was a good name for something songful that was quiet, and a riot was about the most opposite thing I could think of. But the name suits the music very well.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We say Hertford but that's just where we rehearse normally, but we're all in the East Hertfordshire area. There is, like a lot of places in the UK, a small but dedicated scene here for punk bands, Hertfordshire has some great punk bands, like The Skive, Ramona Marx for example. Punk is still around you just have to go out your way a little to find it.

4. How would you describe your style?

It absolutely falls within the punk style, it’s fast, loud and aggressive. But there’s more going on than just that. We have bits of metal in there, some different time signatures, we’ve tried to stay open and let things evolve naturally. We’ll always have that punk sound but the idea is to take it to places where some might not think of.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We did two live EP’s called “Live Lullabies Part 1+2”. We recorded them locally at The Practice Roomz shortly after we did the first show. They were recorded in session so just playing the song live all together in the same room with the vocals added after. It was a good snapshot of where we were at the time but that was well over a year ago now, we’ve got new members and our sound and the way we play has changed a lot since then.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We do, the new EP is coming out later this year and it's called “Social Grievances”. Most of the songs on it are about what’s going on in the world right now and how we feel about that. But we have more songs ready and waiting to be recorded so it won’t be too long a wait before we have even more new music.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We played the last show of the year a few weeks ago and now we're just focused on the new EP and getting that out to as many people as possible. But we'll be back all guns blazing in the new year. The gigs so far have been great, mainly playing between Hertfordshire and London, we did a great show with Grade 2 at the end of last year, and we’ve been very lucky to get on some great bills and met a ton of people with nice things to say.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Right now we’re all about the new EP “Social Grievances" which comes out at the end of the year, the immediate future is all about promoting it and making it as big as it can be, aside from that we’ll be gigging again next year and looking opportunities to tour where ever we can.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Our two previous EP’s “Live Lullabies 1+2” are on all streaming platforms, we also have Facebook and Instagram if you want to keep up to date with any goings on.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Hopefully they go away with a sense of what the lyrics are trying to convey, and the music is written well enough that the song gets stuck in your head for a while. I’d like the listener to think, even for a moment, that the world can be a pretty bad place but we can make it a better one.
