Energetic yet dark and moody act FAMOUS STRANGERS claim that their genre of choice is hard to pin down. But they like it that way, and with that they have already released a few singles thus far, with them set to release their debut album come next year! The band discusses how they came together, the origins of their namesake, and what the future holds.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members
The band came together after years of crossing paths in the Edmonton music scene. We’ve all known each other for decades, playing in different bands and sharing stages. It started with Jeff and Beej writing music post-2014 after their previous project This Is War. Braden joined through mutual connections, and for a while the three of them worked on an instrumental project. That eventually evolved into a classic rock cover band during COVID. One day Amanda came in just to jam and sing with them for fun, but something clicked. The chemistry was undeniable and soon we were writing originals together. Famous Strangers was born and it’s been nonstop ever since.
2. What is the origin of the band's name?
Jeff came up with it while driving. He was listening to the song Perfect Strangers on the radio and happened to glance over at a restaurant called Famous Donair. Something about those two words stuck, and boom , Famous Strangers was born. It felt right immediately.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We’re based in Sherwood Park, Alberta, just east of Edmonton. The scene out here is unreal. It’s like a big extended family. There’s a mix of metalheads, punk kids, rock lifers, and even some new-gen all-ages acts that are keeping the scene alive. We’re proud of the diversity and support in this community. Some local bands we’d recommend are On Elliptic, Quietest, Fem Boy, and Arts Major. That barely scratches the surface, we could go on for hours about the talent out here.
4. How would you describe your style?
Moody and haunting with big grooves and high energy. There’s definitely a dark undercurrent to a lot of what we do, but it’s wrapped in melody and vintage tones. We’re hard to pin down , and we like it that way.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We’ve released a few singles so far, including Deep Star and LSC, along with music videos on YouTube and streaming platforms. Our sound leans into emotional storytelling, dark grooves, and vintage tones with modern weight. You can expect to be taken on a journey , every track is its own little world.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Absolutely. We’ll be recording in early winter or late fall with the goal of releasing our debut record in the spring of 2026. We’ve got a lot more material beyond that too. Some of it has already taken shape, and the rest is in the lab being fine-tuned.
7. How about playing shows and touring? Have anything planned out?
We’ve got a bunch of shows lined up, including festival slots, benefit events, and a tour in November with Shackled to the Throne. You can always find our upcoming dates and show info on our website. We’re hungry to play , we’ll hit the road any chance we get.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Total world domination, of course. We want to play every country, connect with as many people as we can, and keep making art that resonates. Maybe even start a love cult. Who knows.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Head over to www.famousstrangersband.com. Everything is there , streaming links, music videos, merch, show announcements. You can also grab merch at our shows, which is honestly the best way. That in-person support means everything.
10. What is it you'd like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
We want our music to light something up inside you. Whether it inspires you to write something yourself, gives you a moment of comfort, or reminds you who you are , that’s the goal. We want our songs to become part of your memories, something you carry with you and return to when you need it most.
