Alder Lights Talks of Music and Plans Ahead

Alternative rockers ALDER LIGHTS is a trio band who have lots of energy with such angst that they will be around for quite sometime. Thus, they have gone on to talk about their music and the plans ahead.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

We started off as a couple friends looking to play some music together, we weren’t trying to be a band. As we kept playing we kept taking this one step further until it became our main focus in life. Jake Goldberg (guitar, vocals) and Marcus Barkac (drums) started the band and then a couple years later added Kaleb Barkac (bass, brother of Marcus). We take pride in what we do and refuse to rush things out for the sake of having something out in the world. We were a band for 3 years before we released a single song followed weeks later by our first album. Almost two years later we released a song. Now 18 months later we’re beginning our second album cycle. We’ve taken our time to build something we’re proud of and believe it’s time to make music our main focus.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Ultimately there is no meaning behind the band’s name. We wanted a name you could search and no other bands or groups would show up. Ideas and mindsets change over the years so we felt it was important to have a name that didn’t tie us to a specific mindset or time in our lives, but rather one where we felt the freedom to take it any direction we’d like.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

The band is based out of Billings, MT. There’s a surprisingly large amount of talented musicians and bands in our town covering all different genres. We recommend Grant Jones as well as Dead Presleys.

4. How would you describe your style?

Our sound has shifted quite a bit between our debut and sophomore albums. To generalize, we describe ourselves as alternative rock. This new album, Darkest Cameo, is higher energy and more experimental than our previous albums. We always want to find a balance of being creative and having something people want to sing along to.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We released our first album, Here’s To Fate, in 2016 with 9 tracks total. In 2018 we released a single, Creatures, as the first with our three-piece lineup. Expect our sound to keep evolving, have lots of energy, and for our songs to (hopefully) get stuck in your head.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes, we just released our first new song in 18 months. It’s called “Pieces” and it’s available wherever you listen to music. We also have a full-length album, Darkest Cameo, coming out November 8, 2019. We plan on releasing at least one more single before the album drops.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We’re playing an album release show Friday November 8 in our hometown of Billings, MT. Outside of that, we’re working with management on additional shows but nothing official as of now.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

More. We want to do more and be more. We want to play more shows, tour more, and keep writing. For now, we’re deep into rehearsing these new songs as we gear up for its release. Regardless of the success of the band, we’ll keep creating and performing because it’s what we love to do. The more people who join us in that journey, the more fun it’ll be.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We’re on all (or most) digital platforms so you should be able to find us wherever you listen to music. We’re working on getting an online store setup for those who would like to order merchandise or purchase physical copies of our albums.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We would like listeners to remember they’re not alone. Whether our music helps soundtrack a joyous season in life or comforts in a dark season, we want people to feel like we’re right there with them to help enhance their life.
