Last minute shows could be a good thing or bad thing, about a week ago on July 17th 2025 the venue The Regent in Downtown LA would make a social media posting, announcing a claimed “secret” show happening at their establishment. This show would feature none other than Japanese idol metal group BabyMetal! For the past 15 years, since their formation back in 2010, then band has exploded into popularity, traveling across the globe, playing Los Angeles, California countless times as it is. Tonight July 24th 2025, would be no different, minus the venue sizing difference, having played the Wiltern with a capacity of 1,850, the Fonda Theater with 1,200, Hollywood Palladium 4,000, Kia Forum with a 17, 505, YouTube Theater with 6,000 House Of Blues Anaheim with 1,700 with The Regent having 1,100, this being the lowest counted capacity they have ever played in as far as Los Angeles goes.
Getting the chance to catch these girls since their performance at the Hollywood Palladium going forward, with their next arena show happening at the Intuit Dome this fall, with their capacity of 18, 300, tonight was quite the experience somewhat. Apparently VIP entry was around 5PM, with doors for them around 6PM, general public doors at 7PM with a show start time at 8PM BUT due to some minor misinformation the show was said to start at 8:30PM with a pre-show music tribute to Ozzy Osbourne RIP, from 8-8:30PM, with BabyMetal themselves not performance until around 8:45PM. Some of the audience was getting restless and tiresome….
The line to buy merchandise with a majority of the items sold out almost, was out the door, with the balcony up top being closed off to VIP only, the floor and mezzanine area’s being cramped to the max. Once the lights had dimmed and the intro music, voice over began, for the next 45 minutes roughly, the girls would perform only a 10 song set. Yes this was titled “An Evening with BabyMetal” but such a short set list, under 45 minutes, 10 songs only? They could have played at least til 10PM playing tracks off their earlier releases, given this intimate performance more of an experience and its money’s worth!
Getting to make it to the floor off to the left side of the stage, my view point wasn’t so great at first, but once the band got into it, snaking my way to the middle of the floor, and right near the front of the railing is where I stood. That next couple of minutes, lasted a bit, with the band playing such songs as “BabyMetal Death”, “Pa Pa Ya”, “Metal!” “Gimme Chocolate!!”, and “Road of Resistance”, to anme off a few of the numbers sung and danced. A lot of the songs were taken off the band’s newest album “Metal Forth”, in which this performance tonight was in celebration of its release.
BABYMETAL:
The crowd’s participation was flawless, lots of clapping, chanting,
screaming, mosh pit adrenaline, it was pure chaos. Crowd surfers even
got into it here and there atop the audience, making their way to the
front of the stage. It was quite the night, with a crowd to boot, music
that was catchy and well received, BabyMetal being an act to see at
least once, me seeing them already a few times now; tonight was no
different, but still somewhat fun.
