Hostia Talks of Music and the Laughing About Conquering the World?

Hardcore thrash death-grinders HOSTIA has a debut album out, which was then later re-released, with another album and an EP and singles as well. The band laughs it up and talks about conquering the world and music!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

St. Anacletus: Hostia was born in 2017 based on our long-time friendship. We are 2 countries band for now as part lives in Czech Republic and part in Poland. At some point in time all of our previous bands went to an end, and we had the need and fire inside for sth new. And here we are 5 years later with 3 albums and 1 EP! No need to blabber about us more – go listen to the music (laugh)!

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

St.A.: St.Sistus came up with it. It fits perfect. For Christians it is the body of Christ, for Spanish speaking people it is bad word – awesome! And it is simple, easy to remember and sounds good. It was pretty no brainer to pick.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

St.A.: As I said before we are based in Czech and Poland. There are so many great bands in Poland, I am a little less familiar with Czech bands but I can mention Gutalax for sure. From polish you for sure know the ones like Behemoth, Vader, Decapitated or Riverside, but there is so much more like Antigama, Hate, Squash Bowels, Terrordome, Shodan, Sacrofuck, Jad,… fuck – please google polish extreme bands cause I would write a 100 more names here and if I forget about sth they will hate me as we mostly know each other (laugh).

4. How would you describe your style?

St.A.: Brutal as fuck but groovy and a bit catchy (laugh). In my mind we are some kind of death-grind Frankenstein but I guess you can find some other accents like hardcore or thrash. The point is to remain brutal but to not record the same song over and over again. If you feel the need to bang your head while listening – then we succeeded!

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

St.A.: Our debut – self-titled album came out in 2018 and was sold out and then re-released on CD and also couple variations of vinyl in 2021 via our label Deformeathing Prod. In 2020 we released “Carnivore Carnival” album and this year we have two brand new releases – EP “Resurrected Meat” and “Nailed”! I must admit that thanks to Wojtek – our label owner and his passion and support we have beautiful vinyl and CD releases with some extras added (mostly already sold out) so there is always a lot of collectible stuff that I would love to have on my shelf from the bands I like and from the feedback we have – it brings a lot of joy to our listeners too! Please check on www.deformeathing.com and www.churchofhostia.com

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

St.A.: Not really. We are literally days after the release of “Nailed” album. 3 months earlier there was an EP so it was quite busy time – like to the first time ever we put two albums at the same time. I am collecting some ideas – that process never stops. It’s like whenever sth comes to my mind or I just sit with the guitar – I am trying to record it. And then after some time I go through it and check what is worth to work on. But it is too early. I still need to decompress from those two albums.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

St.A.: We are during some shows in Poland, have some confirmations for the next year, but for sure we are open for more to come. We’ll see what future brings!

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

St.A.: Conquer the world! What else could that be (laugh)!

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

www.facebook.com/hostiaband

And all digital platforms like Spotify, Amazon, Deezer, iTunes and so on!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

St.A.: Remember us enough to listen again! And again (laugh)!
