Vanilla Sugar Gives Us the Exposure of Input from Music and More!

Alternative, electronic, pop go getter VANILLA SUGAR is one to push the envelope of sound. This so called eclectic sound consists of Jessica Perry or JP Vanilla on vocals, synthesizer and guitars! In short, Vanilla Sugar creates an infusion of performance experience unlike any other. Find out the exposure of input from Vanilla Sugar below!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Vanilla Sugar was originated in 2009 on an iMac and midi controller in my apartment in Houston, TX. I moved out to Los Angeles, CA about 3 years ago and am now focusing on completing my new album.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The PG Version - Vanilla Sugar is meant to sound cutesy, in juxtaposition with the music being insane, in your face, and not so cute. The True Meaning -  I was given the nickname “JPVanilla” in high school. I used it for everything, my photography, video team, etc. I wanted to create music without people really knowing who was creating it. I wanted to think of a name that was still a part of me. This originated the first part - “Vanilla”. The “Sugar” part comes from the term “kitty sugar”…feel free to look up the definition if you don’t know. That brings the female element into the name, thus creating “Vanilla Sugar”.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

I originated Vanilla Sugar in Houston, TX, but now reside in Los Angeles, CA. The music scene in LA is thriving. There are shows every night in every part of town...it never stops. Houston is always a fun place to play as well. The music scene is like a family. I know who I’ll see at shows in different parts of town. I’ve toured with LA band, Chase the Comet, and Houston artist, Warmtapes.

4. How would you describe your style?

Vanilla Sugar is a blend of beats, gnarly synths, and fluorescent vocals.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

I am currently working on my new album. The new single will be released within the next few months! The new songs are so unique from each other, that the listener can expect to hear a blend of multiple genres across the tracks. I spill my heart and brain all over the lyrics in each song.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes, a brand new album, with a single coming out soon! I can’t wait.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

I will be posting a tour closer to the album release. It will span across North America & Europe.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

After this album debuts, I plan to tour for about 6 months, with any off days being in the studio working on the next album. No downtime!!

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff? You can purchase / stream

Vanilla Sugar on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, Google Play, Pandora, SoundCloud and any of your other favorite music retailers.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

I would love for the listener to remember how the music made them feel. I always get goosebumps when I hear something that I love. I hope to do the same for the listener.
