Comprehending Talks of Singles, Music Genre Identity and More!

Instrumentalist COMPREHENDING has taken this style with the combination of math-rock and post rock to create something that is straight up rock at times. Some single's have been released so far, with all new music in the works, with a new single even. The man behind this project does all of the talking all below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Comprehending started in my bedroom in Uppsala, Sweden in 2019 kind of by accident. I had written my song “Spring” and liked it so much that I wanted to record it properly just to have for myself. Because of this I contacted my friend Richard Stöök who helped me record and mix the song, he told me that I should make it a real project and release my music, so I did and here we are! The band is a one person project so I’m the only member. I do however get help with recording real drums for my songs and have other musicians with me when I’m doing live shows.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

I’ve always liked one word band names, so that was my main focus when choosing a name. The name Comprehending came to mind after listening to the song Shinrin-yoku by Enter Shikari where I noticed them singing the word. I liked how it sounded and started to think about what this project was about. And it really is a way for me to try to comprehend different aspects of music. So I stuck with it.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Comprehending is based out of Uppsala, Sweden. I can’t say the math-rock scene is that great here though haha. But I have played a show with another Uppsala band called Look, Orion which I would recommend to everyone who’s into kind of mathy emo indie music.

4. How would you describe your style?

I’m usually describing it as instrumental math-rock, but I’m also writing more towards post-rock sometimes, and sometimes straight up rock. But if you enjoy kind of complicated chill instrumental music you’d probably enjoy my songs.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

So far I’ve released 6 singles and have another one coming. Listening to my music you can expect intricate guitar riffs, different time signatures, well placed synths and sometimes intense drum work. But overall a good chill feeling with an occasional thing that makes you go “that’s interesting”.

 6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes! I have a new single called “Try” that will be released on all major platforms on March 18th. I think it’s one of the coolest songs I’ve written and I’m really looking forward to it! You can also pre-save the song here https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/comprehending/try

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

I recently had a show in Uppsala with the band Look,Orion but I do not have anything planned as of now unfortunately. I hope to do some more shows later this year though.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

My plans right now is to write more music and plan more shows, hopefully grow my fan base in the meantime.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can hear my music on all major platforms, I’m more present on Spotify and Bandcamp though. Bandcamp is also where you can buy all my music and merch!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

I would like a new listener to get with the feel of the songs and maybe have a brief break from all the obligations of life and just have a relaxed moment. We could all use that sometimes and I think my music kind of promotes that. My recommendation would be to go outside, lay down and just get lost in the music.
