White Harbor's Nate and Chris Talk of Lots of Music!

Modernized metal emo band WHITE HARBOR have got a lot of songs to cone, including a debut EP out by the end of this year, with a lot more music in the works for sure! The band has plans to do some shows as well as just releasing a lot more music of course. Band members guitarist/song writer Nate and vocalist/song writer Chris do the talking with this chat below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

It began as a passion project after a long hiatus from writing; after I stopped being an active member of Lion I Am. I was talking to Tyler (my old friend and band mate/owner of Black Gate Records) about how much I was enjoying writing again and, how it would be nice to have a vocalist to work with. Tyler posted on a forum looking for try outs and, that’s how Chris found me. The funny thing is, Tyler and I almost forgot about Chris and, didn’t see the email for almost two weeks. I’ll tell you what, I’m so glad we didn’t forget though because Chris’s try out (which was an entirely completed Die Alone) blew me away. It was exactly what I was looking for and the rest is history.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

I did not have a definitive group yet and, at the time, I was super into Game of Thrones so I used themed code names for the songs (e.g. The North Remembers was the OG name for Ruiner). Once Chris and I got together and we began brain storming ideas for a name, White Harbor stuck with us. The fact that it wasn’t taken by another artist in this currently oversaturated market was a huge plus for us and, it has a cool origin oof fandom. It’s funny Nate’s demo titles were all these familiar names that I didn’t realize all his demo song names were Game of Thrones references. We figured instead of naming all our songs we’d just stick with a band name like White Harbor in reference to the location in the hit series. Also Sorry for all those hoping for a Game of Thrones influenced band haha

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Elliot and I live out in the San Diego area and our guitar player Nate who writes for us lives in Nebraska. I personally love the San Diego scene I try to go to as many shows in the area I’m in. A few I’ve seen at some the venues are Resider, Fermentor, Parasitic Existence and Dream Burglar, those guys are killing it right now.

 4. How would you describe your style?

We’re a little on the heavy side but we definitely shine on our catchy hooks. I would describe it as Modern Metalcore or Heavier Emo for those that want something more metal influenced than most emo type bands. I think Chris is spot on. It’s funny because I honestly do not listen to heavy music as much as I used to but, there’s something uniquely special about the power behind it. With White Harbor there really is no limits on what we do. The EP will actually feature a re-imagined Forever which is essentially a Dark Wave song. The future will certainly carry a lot of surprises and treasures for those who love the signature sound as well.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

I can tell you to expect a lot more music! We’ve got a lot of songs coming soon but, so far we’re wrapping up our first EP “Forever” which should be completely out by the end of this year. For now you can enjoy our latest single “Where I’ll Be” which is on all major streaming platforms.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Our newest single that we haven’t released is coming out September 30th. The song is going to have a little of everything and is really close to home for me lyrically. You’ll have to wait and hear once it comes out though!

Nate - We have so many songs to be honest. Right now we’re releasing essentially the first ones we wrote together. It’s a really cool thing to see because it’s almost a story about me and Chris learning how to write together. I’m excited to drop our Forever EP this year but, I can’t lie about being overly excited about everything we have in store for you afterwards.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Not yet, as I said before we’re stretched out from California to Nebraska so we’re very limited in that department. But, we are not opposed to doing any local festivals or big shows once there’s demand for it!

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Lots and lots of music. White Harbor is, at it’s core, about the music we create. Over time, we are also excited about the potential for shows, small tours, and merchandise for those who want them. Since we are so new, we haven’t pushed any physical releases yet but it’s absolutely something we are excited about doing once there’s some demand.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Right now our music is all on Spotify, Apple Music and we also post on Blackgate Records YouTube Channel for our music videos. You can sign up for our mailing list on our website www.whiteharbormusic.com where we will have more updates coming soon!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

My hope is a listener interprets something meaningful from it; whether it’s what the lyrics might mean to them or how the melodies might impact them.
