Stonebrother Discusses Music as a Band and More!

Hard rock band STONEBROTHER mixes things up by not only having hard rock but punk and metal as well. They have two EP's under their belts with more music always being made and coming soon. The whole band discusses these details about their music and what the future holds.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Zach: Ethan and I are brothers, and we’ve been playing together since we were old enough to play. We’ve played with a few other people under different names, all of which were fairly short-lived. Leo was introduced to us by his junior high school music teacher, who is a friend of our family. We liked playing faster rock stuff, and we needed someone who could keep us. The first song we did was ‘Hot for Teacher’ by Van Halen, and Leo had no problem holding it down. It was pretty clear that we had something good.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Zach: I’m not sure honestly. We had been looking for a name for quite a while, and every time we found something we liked, we found out it had been taken. I was driving home one night and it just kind of came into my head. The next time we got together I told the boys, and they liked it, so we went with it.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Ethan: Zach and I grew up on the Eastern shore of Nova Scotia, and that’s where we practice most of the time. There isn’t much of a music scene out here, but there is the Trunk 7 Music Festival. We’ve played it every year since 2015, save the past two years due to COVID. Some other notable local bands who have played the festival are Andre Pettipas and the Giants, Foggy Road, and The Royal Volts.

4. How would you describe your style?

Leo: We’re a hard hitting, adrenaline fueled rock band. Along the lines of Guns n’ Roses or Van Halen. We like to play fast rock, but we are pretty diverse. We’ve written heavy electric songs, but we’ve also written soft acoustic songs. Zach’s even in jazz school!

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

Leo: So far we have released two EPs, the first being completely home-made and the second, Every Second Counts EP, was done professionally at The New Scotland Yard in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. We’re always working on new material, and we’ll be recording it as soon as possible.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Ethan: The short answer is “always.” Whether we’re writing down lyrics or plucking new riffs on our own, showing the other guys a cool chord progression or putting finishing touches on something, all three of us are always working on new stuff, but when we come together to really hammer it out it really comes together. As of writing this, we have two songs mostly finished with about three more in the works that we can’t wait to share with the world.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Zach: With COVID-19 still around it’s been hard to get any gigs, but we’re doing what we can. Over the summer we were out busking a few times to raise money for the EP, and we did Facebook live streams pretty regularly. That kind of slowed down as it got colder and we had to go back to school, but we hope to get back out and get some actual live gigs soon.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Ethan: All kinds. Presently, we’re saving our pennies to hit the studio again as soon as possible and hopefully record a full album. Before COVID hit, we were actually in the process of planning a tour of some universities, and we’re hoping that after it’s over we can get that plan up and running again.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Leo: You can hear us on Apple Music, Spotify, Bandcamp, and any other major streaming services. We’re working on getting some sort of online store set up so stay tuned.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Ethan: When listening to us for the first time, I would say keep the volume up, the heads banging, and the fists pumping to really start to feel the rock n roll through your whole body.
